OK, if I get the none SE and put a fan on the NB heatsink will it cool similar to water cooling version?

1.2000V Vcore & 1.35V NB is the border for my CPU, below there OCCT will not be stable. Voltage looks nice, not to high i think.
Thanks Electric_Eye for the advice. It turns out that one of my 2GB sticks of RAM is bad. Last night I tested each stick individually and with one in particular I was able to reproduce my crash error. What a relief to finally know the cause. So, until I get my replacement RAM I'm running with a single 2GB stick in A1, error free.
Also, I never updated my experience removing the NB heat sink from the board. Cuke2u, this time my experience was the same as yours. With only minor pressure the heatsinks and pipe popped off. Then it was simply a matter of carefully chipping away most of the thermal adhesive with a razor blade, it flaked off quite nicely, and then I replaced the whole thing using my Arctic Cooling MX-2. We'll see how it does when I get my replacement RAM and I'm able to begin overclocking.
Thanks to all for their help, I'm sure I'll be looking for more as I work for a stable air cooled overclock.
Maglin, your setup is virtually identical to mine. I've taken great interest in your post several pages back listing your BIOS settings for a stable 400x9 with minimum voltage. Using the same settings I was able to boot into XP64 without an issue. Failed the OCCT stress test, but the desktop was stable. Then I saw your post several pages later stating that you had to increase some of your voltages to get stable. What settings did you eventually arrive at? Would you mind an updated posting of your stable BIOS settings and/or methodology for getting your stable overclock? Thanks.
Review some of my previos post for BIOS profiles and adjust as needed.
As for the Quads in general, leave memory and graphics out of it till youget the CPU/mobo where you like and stable in 1:1. So for best stability, leave strap and RAM frequency to Auto, Disable both speed spectrum settings, Disable RAM Booster an drelax to 0 (1~3 as needed for stability, when stable again), Set Ai Clock Twister to Auto or light (for now, avoid "strong", as it will add stress to memory system and become unstable, destracting OC test), Enable Static Read Control. Getting higher FSB out of a quad is gonna need some more PLL and FSBT thgen in my core 2 OC. Matbe PLL up to 1.712v and FSTB to 1.504v is a good refference point.
Try this and use overvolting as little as needed for low temps and stability.
Hope this helps!
Why is CPU-Z only showing PCI-E link width at 2x? I've tried it in both of the blue PCI-E slots and they both come up at 2x, I've tried raising the PCI-E freq to 101 upto 110 and it still shows 2x. I don't see any bios settings for setting this manually.
Edit: I changed the NB voltage to 1.55 same problem. I even installed XP and installed the latest beta nvidia driver (169.09).
I tried up to 1,8V PLL and 1,55 vFSB with 1,55 vNB and nothing help... I can't get my board to run at 475 FSB :(
My board also has an astronomic vDroop... I select 1,4875V in BIOS and I'm down to 1,376V while running P95 :(
What BIOS are you running?
LLC function??
BTW, is there any good 2x2GB memory kits with Micron chips?
LLC=Load Line Calibration
Getting my 8800GTX and 850W power supply back today, If that doesn't fix my OC problem, then.... :shakes:
hey all....just to let you guys know, i have this board up and running, 400 x 9, very very easily, on my q6600. cpu volts at 1.4
i am still on the shipping bios 401
had to rma a brand new evga 8800gtx, had some tearing issues at stock speeds, so when i get it back i will try some further overclocking.
This board is a dream with the QX9650 and SS....

Im still having issues with high FSB but it may be the CPU...
Warboy, you posted a screenshot several pages back which showed your temps and voltages in Everest. In the shot your Motherboard Temp is ~19C! Are you doing something in particular with your voltages or air cooling to achieve this? or is that simply a result of your subzero room temperature? ;) My motherboard temp at stock speeds with my Q6600 is around 30C.
Is it still the general consensus that for those with 2 sticks of RAM the white slots on this board offer greater stability? Or is it really just a crap shoot?
Hello,
I am trying to choose between the maximus formula and the p5e to go with a q6600. I will pair them with 2 3870s in crossfire.
And for memory I am thinking about crucial ballistix pc2-8500.
Does the maximus formula also have that 3rd generation 8-phase power for the cpu? because that latest gen thing only shows up on the P5e's page on asus.com.
Which board would you guys recommend?
Any other suggestions for memory?
Thank you
