@BLunT, what do you mean by "my locked up" ?
I think he means "my computer locked up".
I'm going to rotate my waterblock 90° since it's covering the top of the capacitors. Hopefully by doing so, I can get better temperatures.
Hey guys I am new to overclocking the UD5 but I am loving it! So much better than my MSI Eclipse. Now anyways I am trying to get my Uncore Frequency up around 4000 Mhz. So far I have been able to use a x4 memory multi and an x 18 Uncore multiplier. Now I am stable with those two in Linx. Although when I begin increasing the Uncore Ratio I lose stability. I can boot into Windows with an x19 Uncore and then no boot at x20, which would give me the 4000mhz, since at x18 I am at 3600mhz (the same as my QPI link). Now this is for my 24/7 overclock, getting my base clock past 200 and stable is a whole another battle, which I am losing fast. Anyways, in trying to Increase the Uncore to x20, which is what I want, the 4000Mhz, I have tried raising the IOH voltage to 1.2V and that did nothing, I also tried increasing the QPI link from x36 to the next ratio (x44?) and that did nothing, I also increased the QPI voltage to about 1.425V or so and nothing there. What else do I have to increase in order to get my Uncore somewhat stable at x20. I would like to keep my ram running at x4, since my timings are 7-7-7-21 there and very stable.

That is exactly what I meant!!!
I was half a sleep when I was posting last night!!!
Anyway, my rig is still Priming away, so all is good here... well, apart from a dead DIMM slot!!!

@phsinc1,
Yes I am on XP x86, the only reason that I am using this OS is because I thought it may well have been my copy of Vista x64 that was bad, but I was getting the exact same issues in XP that I did in Vista to begin with..
I am going to hook up my HDD that has my Vista install on it later on today.. probably once my new mobo arrives...
@Brad, yes I did get the new UD5 from OcUK MM... why do you ask?
My current UD5 came from Scan Computers, and I have had nothing but problems with it...
Prime ran overnight no problems with the 4GHz O/C, so I went and hooked up the HDD I have with Vista x64 earlier, but the problems have came back again!!!
Ah nothing i just saw it on there and thought it was a total steal at that price. Can you not do a fresh install of vista on a different Hdd?
Yeah Brad, I had planned on trying a fresh install of Vista x64 on my other HDD that I have XP installed on, but I am just waiting for my new mobo to arrive first before doing that...
I was actually amazed that no-one else had snapped up this new mobo I have coming at the price the guy was selling it for.. £140 is a steal IMO...
I'm just praying to the gods that it sorts out all the issues I have been experiencing... if it doesn't then I am going to assume it is the CPU that is faulty...
You know, since I built this rig, I have now got enough parts for 2 i7 systems minus a processor... just because I went out and bought RAM, PSU, and mobo to help me find out what is causing the problems I have been experiencing...
though it wont go to waste as I am going to give my fiancee the other system once I get money to buy another processor...
More qpi/vtt voltage if you just change the uncore multi and no need to touch anything else. Some cpu need more while other less and it scale differently. eg. 1.475V and 1.38V for 4k uncore for some cpu I tried. Just test it using the first bunch of 1024k of prime95 blend.
What stress testing software would you guys say is the quickest for checking for stability?
I ask this because when I had my CPU clocked to 4GHz, it managed to run Prime Blend for over 14 hours no problem, but when I tried running IBT, it reset itself just as the fans started slowing down to finish the 2nd pass...
And I also tried using the 64bit linpack in OCCT and it crashed after only 10 minutes, but like I said, P95 ran no problem...
I am starting to think that IBT or OCCT are better for quickly testing your overclock than running P95 for 8+ hours...
However, if I manage to get my O/C stable with 20 passes of IBT, then I will also run Prime Blend for 8 hours just to be sure I am stable...
Also, I have lower the CPU frequency down to 3.2GHz, and now it is managing 20 passes of IBT at max stress level...
Is LinX exactly the same as IBT?
Hey guys a quick question. Does your pwm heatsinks become * extremely* hot under load? I have a UD3R that self combusted, and when it was still alive I could not touch these heatsinks for more than 2 sec without getting a first degree burn!
Instable system with the newest F8e. Windows loads fine, but after some seconds I get BSOD ( 1600 RAM and 3.2 CPU)
So what do you guys think ?
Al voltages at default settings, except Vcore (1.3750) and the RAM voltage ( 1.64).
@ Blunt - I use LinX (max memory) on 20 passes and that does me, as I get my stability from day-to-day use.
I sometimes will Prime, but I was always led to believe that Large / Small FFT's are better than the Blend as they stress the CPU more.
@Brad, are you using the F8e bios?
Thanks, I was looking at Evga2000's test using high uncore frequencies on i4memory and he had to use somewhat like 1.79V Vdimm and something like 1.58V QPI, although I do not want to run my Uncore at 4700Mhz, I would be happy with 4000Mhz.
I am also havign some major problems getting the board anywhere near stable with a base clock over 200, say 205 and 210. I am using the PCI-e frequency of 103, and I increased my voltages a lot and nothing it giving. I had the Vcore at 1.475V, and the QPI at 1.455V, and that did nothing. The computer BSOD's within the 1st minutes of LinX. I dont know if I should be messing with the Advanced CPU features, like Thermal Management, Prochot, and vitalization technology, I have these 3 features on.
@Darth, 1.3705v Vcore for 3.2GHz is way to much IMO...
@Johnny, I haven't given LinX a try yet, I have started using IBT to check for stability, as it seems to give quicker results than P95...
My new mobo never came today, I am really annoyed, because the seller told me yesterday that it would be here before 5PM today, so I had to stay at home expecting the mobo to arrive, and it never...
I think the guy must have put it out on 2 day delivery instead of next day like he told me...
Not to worry though, it should defo be here tommorow...
@Jake, I am also having a lot of problems trying to boot with anything higher than 200MHz Bclk.. I have PCI e frequency @ 102MHz, but I still can't get past 200 Bclk... When I first put this rig together, I did manage to get into Windows with 215 Bclk, but it wont do it anymore...
I have asked here loads of times how to get over 200 Bclk, but no-one ever gives me an answer!!!!
Well I will askaround at some other forums and see, at TPU Fitseries has a stable bclk of 212 x21 so 4.4
@Blunt, i have the old C0s, they need more voltage I guess.
I just read this about these ram chips http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/sho...php?t=18029457
There no need to touch much with PCI-e frequency because you wasnt doing over the 222 bclk wall anyway. Setting PCI-e frequency at 103 would just grant me a problem with default bios settings when I restart the PC.
If you mean 210x21(HT on) then it quite hard to do with linx because it all in the cpu and depend on the cpu. or Just do a couple of hours of prime95 blend and just be done with it since it easier anyway.:D
When poking around some cpu I saw some can do it easily while other just give me a grey hair:rofl:. With HT off two of the chip I tried just stop at 215x21 and 217x21 for linx while other can do more than 220x21. If you dont want to mess with this just pick up cpu with higher multi.
I didnt mess much with the settings when doing this , this and this except the basic settings like vcore , qpi/vtt , vdimm , ioh , bclk , cpu pll , uncore multi , ram timing and cpu skew. Here the settings that I used.

I am getting really frustrated with this rig...
I can get it IBT stable 20 passes with the CPU @ 4GHz and the mem multi @ 6x for 1200MHz, but if I try to set it to 8x mem multi for 1600MHz as soon as I start IBT the system resets itself everytime...
I want to be able to run my RAM @ 1600MHz not 1200!!!
I will post up my BIOS settings tommorow to show you what I have it set to for 4GHz...
