i really wasnt thinking of takeing it that high. maybe to 3.4-3.6 i thought that would be pushing it some... what would a good everyday 24/7 OC be for this CPU. no matter what stepping i get? if i order online its a toss up in what i get. if i find it in a brick and morter shop i can see what im getting.

Whats a good SLI board to over clock with Q6600? I heard Evga 750i? Sorry I'm in the market for a new board.

My Striker died and I don't even want to deal with it any more. I can't even get a good stable clock pass 3.0 GHz. Going to RMA it and put it on a different system. Make use of my E6600 :yepp:
I have no choice but just to stick with SLI(8800s gtx). Will it be worth it to go with Evga 780i? The price looks so good on Newegg. And which brand in that bracket has been known to be a great overclocker? Thanks.

I'm sick of dealing with Nvidia boards... I say it's not worth it. Sell one (or both) of your 8800GTXs and get a good Intel Chipset board and an ATI Video Card. The nvidia chipsets are a boatload of problems that just aren't worth dealing with. Video Corruption, Bad overclocking, Bad performance, and Poor power regulation are just four bullets on the list. My Q6600 can't get past 3.6GHz on this board because of power problems, and 451FSB won't even work.

I tried to overclock to 9 x 378 manually but setting vcore at 1.36250 in bios, I'm scared of wrecking the chip. (I am new to overclocking sorry)

oh also i modded/made some aluminium mosfet heatsinks, do i have to put some thermal paste or pad before screwing them onto the mosfet area, or can I apply it directly without a thermal pad? (I dont wanna do a short circuit)
Can anyone offer me any assistance and tips on overclocking? Thank you very much =)

Sorry to go a little off topic but I get some great results from my sli boards. The msi is a very good clocker, stable, and reliable. Sli works flawlessly with it. I haven't experienced any of the issues that loser describes. I'm just now setting up a 790i but that's also an excellent clocker.Quote:

That stepping seems to be a mixed bag so you're on a lottery. I've tried a close stepping L748B with VID=1.2875v and it made 3.6GHz with 1.45v (reported by Everest; in BIOS the vCore was set at 1.5x v). If your store allows open box return go try it and keep us posted.Quote:

My problem with this board is that it's extremely fickle. With my last chip I had this board benching at around 480FSB. After I got rid of the last chip because it was a bad clocker, I pop in this low VID bad boy. 3.6GHz was stable at 1.372v/1.384v so I thought if I can't get to 3.8GHz, I'll at least have 3.6GHz with this board, which is a pretty decent 24/7. That's not even possible anymore, and I'm seriously starting to doubt the quality of this board.
What's weird is that setting higher voltages causes the crashes to happen FASTER than they would at a LOWER voltage. And crashes happen strictly based on the amount of load also. I had 3.8GHz running for about 5-6 hours... @ 1.464v... I run Prime, and it crashes in about 1 second. I run one thread of Prime, and it takes about 10 minutes. I know that this behavior is pretty common with an unstable chip, but it doesn't explain how higher voltages crash FASTER, unless something is wrong with power regulation.
My other thought is that the Chipset could have potentially degraded... I was running it up to 1.55v (BIOS MAX), with my benching runs before, and I ran it at 1.5v 24/7 with my previous OC.
The highest I ran my chip AFTER setting my stable 24/7 OC was 1.58v LOAD for about 5 seconds before Prime failed.

Mine has a vid of 1.225, I get it completly stable at 3.6ghz with 1.3875V's. I want to push it alot higher for daily use, maybe another 400mhz. I just need to take my mobo settings off of auto and start to do some real OC'ing, lol, I'm just lazy.
Tested 8hours with OCCT (idk if any of u use this program) 100% load completly stable, highest temp = 51C's.

I'm still a litle bit noob about the advanced features in my bios so I couldn't prime at more then 3.6GHz. At 3.7 the system restarts after a few minutes. Maybe my Enermax 535W is not holding that much overclock or I'm missing some extra voltage on some specific option in BIOS.
What voltage are you running for 3.7GHz?
About 1.45v set in bios (I don't remember exactly). I'm currently at 3.6 (450x8) as 1.4250v set in bios (1.4080v in Windows). This is prime stable.
