I would like to see some more LCB9E results!
I've got one.1.4v to 2.7 same as you.Got and 2.9 with 1.5 but not tested yet.Got no time
I have the supposedly best stepping for opteron 165, CCBBE 0617 FPMW and I can't get it to be stable past 2.85 GHZ. I can benchmark and games upto 2.95 GHZ but p95 fails instantly if I go over 2.85 GHZ. On stock volts I am prime stable at 2.72 ghz but to get to 2.85 I need 1.55V...This is really annoying. Everyone else with this stepping is hitting atleast 3.0 and some even 3.1+ and I cant even get 2.85+. I have a proven mobo/ram combination since I can get my opty 144 stable to 2.97 GHZ. But still to be on the safe side I am running my RAM with really loose timings @ 215 MHZ. My HTT multiplier is set to 3x. Temperatures are'nt an issue since I am getting 22/45 idle/load at 1.55v with a lapped thermaltake tower 112 and AS5. I am work right now but when I go home I will try:
1) Lowering my RAM divider even further, down to 100 mhz..I am 99% sure this wont help but you never know. G-Skills tend to act funny with dividers.
2) Lowering my HT down to 2X (Its at 3X ATM). Someone mentioned you need to do this once you go past 345 MHZ HTT.
3) Make sure my PWMIC temps are OK with 1.55V. NTune does not show this and speedfan reedings are all over the place. I need to get smartguardian for my DFI infinity.
We'll see what happens. My cooling is the best you can have with air but its a shame I cant utilize it in order to get to 3.0 GHZ :mad:
I doubt you can do 3ghz on air under 1.55v with the 0617 but I'm pretty sure you be able to do 2.9+ less then 1.5v. I'm talking 12hrs primestable.

Take a look at your "MAX CASE TEMP", its 59c as long as you keep it down there you should be fine.
Now with the temp difference between your cores, most people say its bad IHS mounting, but so far I have removed like 4 IHS, and even doing that still have that difference (like 10 C dif. usually), so I heard this last Optys have that in common (I mean all these great steppings), so it may actually be a bad calibration in the internal diode sensor. And, since it's not an official feature of AMD (reading temps iternaly), it may be also a bug in core temp.

The way I understand it is the internal sensor isn't "official" because of the calibration problems with these cores. I believe I've read AMD would address the issue in the next generation chip.Quote:

Holly!!! Those are too high temps!!. Try using Everest, It reads from the cores too. Wow. Have you checked if your heatsink is very well seated and making good contact with your CPU? Have you checked you are giving it the right volts? I dunno about Infinitys mobos, they should be like my expert, so I'm guessing you have in the bios, a startup vcore option, and other 2, one is in Volts (can't remember the name) and the third is in percentages. So be very carefull on those calculations and how much voltage are you actually giving it.Quote:

I would suggest removing the IHS, but I think you should leave that for last.... I haven't seen any of those last steppings doing so bad at 2.8 ghz, and at a soo high temp as yours, so must be something else.... Check if the heatsink is well mounted, other suggestion is trying the stock heatsink (the one that comes with your Opty is not bad at all for 2.8 ghz, at least has heatpipes right?), so that way you can rule out the heatsink as being the culprit.
Other than that, I see you are using a .5 multi, try to avoid doing that, sometimes Optys "don't like" half multis...

I need your also Peter949..maybe you got a bad ex or you are doing something wrong or have bad temps..
I don't know my batch but its 2.924ghz on 1.45v cpu-z 12hrs prime stable on air. Smart Guardian for whats its worth says I load at 38-40c. Idle is 28-31c.
Your temps sounds right...hmm are you stil using 500w psu thats you have in your sign?, can you check how low your +12 and +5 are in bios for me(not in widows check it in bios ), Maybe your psu is to weak...i have a friend with a 500w thats have problems to run his 148 opteron over 2.85ghz and i have run it @ 3.04ghz 24/7 before and his +12v is droping in bios(<-11.9v)Quote:

How is the opteron 175 ? is it good overclock potential ?
175 has never been any better than 165/170. Higher multi can come in handy, sometimes to avoid coldbug (which is HTT related). I guess that as the 165 and 170s both have equal steppings floating around, the 175 will also have those. It's worth a shot, but you gotta be lucky because as far as I know, nobody has got a (decent) 175 right now.
