I basicly build and use dual socket 8 core machines as I prefer the dependability and smoothness of those over the single socket gaming boards BUT this thing has some real balls to it.

News papers should be more carefull then, we we're only curious and PL having hw donated to them for testing capable of this does smell like it's either a big pr stunt ( Nehalem? ) or a big test of something incredibly good at crunching ( Larrabee? ). Siggraph if im not mistaken. Its not about the Polaris. This is a 1Ghz running Larrabee.

Im sure RAD game tools also got a few versions ;)

Most tests we have seen so far were pretty good, overall nehalem seems to be far, far ahead of penryn, but surprisingly there were also some (mostly single-threaded) benchmarks that showed zero gains or reduced performance (games, TMPGEnc w/ smt, CrystalMark 2004R3). Do you mean there will be more of the latter or are you talking from the POV of a biased gamer? (contrary to popular belief the world does not revolve around gaming)
I think dkanter from RWT was quite convinced that nehalem will be a beast (in the server world). :D

I'm expecting either October 31st or November 3rd, but since no one cares to speculate with me I'll just leave it at that. :rolleyes:

I think you are forgetting one little point ... Yorkfield is a monster at games , it did create a very hard to beat competitor. When you look at Phenoms, it is in average 30% behind, in some case more. Adding a 3rd level of Cache and not losing performance, and being able to be around the performance of yorkfield is more than outstanding. Nehalem is a processor that will get some serious boost on video (Will beat Badaboom), will be awesome at 3D rendering, and will be the only server chip that sane person should buy.

And as I always say to the people who feel compelling to criticize with big words as "stupid", try to do it yourself and see if you can do better than us :)

In all fairness, give me your budget, I'll move that over to AMD and I won't be that surprised if they could come up with something atleast competative. I'm not trying to down talk your archievements, I think since the A64 days, Intel has been pressed hard to come up with an architecture which will be very hard to beat, even if you also have the process node advantage over AMD, you deliverd on the architecture big time :up:

I am ok to get challenged or criticized, I am not ok when big words are use as "stupid". The OC community can gain a lot by becoming less "fan boy" and more rational. I am very happy to have AMD next to us, keeping us running fast. As a technologist, I love competition, and most of the engineers at Intel do. Just for one reason: "AMD strong = I can ask my manager for more feature in the CPU :) to go faster"

And again, the "hate" between AMD and Intel exist only in the mind of fan boys, our Kids share the same Sunnyvale and Santa Clara schools, they go to same summer camps. The press is mainly responsible for this feeling, they use sentences with WAR terms. This can only generate issues and create artificial camps, leading to hate, and this is wrong.

Try to keep the olympic spirit, as I do, and let s the race continue! Take the high road, you will get out better!

I can only go on what I observe and what I see says to me that yes it is a monster in terms of the increase in computational power over the previous generation(Yorkfield and in my case Harpertown cpu's)
I don't game so I can't comment on that factor.
I don't lie, I'm not paid by Intel and my comments are my own not influenced by anyone's opinions except what I see with my own eyes.
Last, I didn't receive this system thru Intel but thru other means so realistically I am not under a signed NDA but under a personal one as it's a matter of honor not legality. You don't spit in someone's face that has done you the immense favor of letting you test an as yet unreleased system by posting benchmarks in the public sector as some have done including yourself.
As to price, they are offerring three levels of chips, and one buys what one decides is best for his/her own financial situation and that has always been the case.
Look at the Harpertowns for example;
A pair of E5420's that will easily do 3GHz can be bought any day for $500.00 if you shop right and will do most anything anyone would have need of but if you want that top speed chip like the QX9775 that will do 4GHz+ you pay close to $3000.00 a pair.
That is life my friend and carries over to all forms of the marketplace.
