I'm actually complete noob with photography but what I did was use some white paper and layed it over a table. The camera used was a Canon 350D with stock lens and auto settings.Quote:

Read through the whole tutorial and posts, etc ... I have had the sleeve bug for some time now and wasn't sure where I would find the time to read up on it, but when I found this ... I put everything else on hold. What a read! Dangals ... thank-you very, very much and everyone else who has contributed to it. :up:

As I mentioned early on in this thread, the only thing I add is this: whenever possible add a collar under the heatshrink so that the heatshrink won't pull off the sleeving at some point in the future.
thinking to sleeve all the cable in my PSU, especially with the ATX cable one with 1/8 sleeve/cable...
so i just want to know, from the experience of all you guys with sleeving, how much/long do i need to prepare the 1/8 sleeving one.
i'm thinking to get about 10/20m for the 1/8, is that enough or more than enough to sleeve all cable ? :)

I think it all depends on how many cables are being sleeved/ how long each cable is/ if you're doing individual, or pairs of cables/ the exact length of your PSU cables... but yeah, 10-20m should be a good guess imo
Well i got my murder mods sleeving in the other day so i'm excited to get everything going. They did not send me any 1/8 heatshrink with my order so I can't do anything really until I get that problem resolved. I just have the 3 bigger sizes and not much of it. But it looks very nice. Anyone got any tips on other things i can use to take these connectors off with? I have a one tool i ordered from PPC's but i'm not sure how well it's going to work. I saw the staple trick in the sleeving guide but i've tried it and can't get it to work. I must not have good staples or somethings. What other toolls have you guys used and what tips can you give me?
which connectors are you trying to get off? I used a thumbtack/pushpin for the 4-pin molex and that seemed to work fairly well. I also had a smaller needle type tool for pushing down the barbs on fan connectors. As for the 4/8-pin mobo, 24-pin atx, and 6/8-pin pci-e connectors, I am not sure about those. haven't really tried anything yet that worked for me :shrugs:
Sleeving individual cables from a 6/8/24 pin molex plug will cause more airflow turbulence, since the overall diameter of all the cables added up is greater than sleeving over the entire bunch.
Something I found recently was adhesive backed cloth tape. Wrap this around your cables where they fan out from the sleeving, then put the heatshrink tubing over the transition. It creates a nice clean look with minimal disturbance of the airflow.
I found the cloth tape (black) in the sports section of Wal-Mart. I think it's used for wrapping sports equipment handles.

For those trying staples to get out the pins ... here's what finally worked for me:
1) use regular size staples - not the mini ones
2) straighten the staple with small needle nose pliers
3) bend the staple as close to the middle as possible to get it even on both sides- I wrapped it around one end of the pliers
4) insert the ends into the sides of the opening for the pin ... wriggle it until you make sure you are contacting the flanges that hold the pin in ... push in as far as you can
5) pull the wire out of the bottom of the connector - sometimes you have to pull pretty hard, but you will generally know if you have the pin released
Using two staples didn't work very well for me, and it was a lot of trial and error to get the technique down. Once you get it working, it isn't too bad.

On another note ... does anyone know of a good guide for combining three fans for a radiator? I had a few last year, but the pics have expired. I know how to do it, but just can't seem to get it as neat as I'd like. (apologies if it's buried in this thread - I've read the whole thing, but don't recall a 3-fan post).

I get my sleeving from a local audioshop in the hometown of a forummember from a different forum.
Maybe you should search for a electronic(like DIY) or a audioshop in your town.
