:lol; in Uk we talk about DIY (Do It Yourself) , my brother came up with a better one DIY(Don't Involve Yourself):rofl: but yes understand what your saying, I usually have a go :)Quote:
obviously, i did not do a good job!...the ole body does not respond like it use to!...think i will need to hire a roofer to repair it
i learned my lesson.:p:
good news, i have the biostar back in my hands!:yepp:
no screw driver and no DMM probes!:D
Ace, i am thinking about picking up one of these boards to replace my P5Q-D. Main gripe about the Asus is I can't use my X-Fi because some enigineer-monkey had his head somewhere else when he layed out the slot design. I have to put the card in the top slot right next to my 4870, squeezed in the sapce between the vid card and the cpu cooler. It's either this or spend 190.00 on a PCie version of my X-Fi. And I also am not coming to grips real fast with the Asus and clocking any of my Duals. I can get a SuperPi at 4700 with the 8600 but cannot get it stable there. Please give me some reasons whuy I should NOT pickup one of these Biostars
ok, so the X-FI card that you have is a PCI slot card, right?..if so, then the 2 PCI slots are to the left (bottom of the board if standing) of the 2nd 16X speed slot.
if i understand you correctly then the X-FI sound card should be ok unless you are going to do crossfire.
here is the board; take a look.
the board is easy to overclock this 9650 to 4 ghz...a breeze!
will start lowering the multi so i can raise the FSB...have to finish a 32M bench for comparison before i start raising the FSB
usually, this puppy will stop around 475 FSB as a stable overclock...might be able to squeeze more; we'll see.
Alright, i have a new opinion on this board. 500fsb is easy...It was my RAM (single sided ballistix), which I haven't quite figured out yet. Anyone know where i can pick up a nice set of D9? Or at least something that can do DDR2-1200?
I have to reboot anywhere between 5-10 times before i can get into BIOS on this board. Am I doing something wrong?
I am soo happy you got your board back. I could feel your pain though I'll admit you faked it pretty well :) Hey, could you run the WPrime 32M and the 1024M soon as you can? I want to track that number as you change your setup. Could be more valuable than regular prime because we can track all 4 cores. 4ghz a breeze? Dang, I'm jealous!
well, it looks like i am able to run my 9650 up to 495 FSB with a little tweaking!
currently on 8.5x which is 4216 mhz.
running Wprime at PL=11 since that is the PL number which makes Super PI 32M complete...at PL=9, it won't complete 32M so i jumped right to PL=11...i will eventually try PL=10...i will set that from the bios.
i did have to set MCH GTLREF to 64%...that looks like the Quad magic number once you go above a certain FSB
EDIT:...i am using the same PC6400 memory which i used with the E8500 and the PL was "9"....so it looks like the the dual L2 and 4 cores just puts more stress on working cache and system memory.
After benching with this board all weekend... I have realized this is a slow board... In order to make it fly you're going to have to use strap tweaks.
If you have everest, run the latency test to see what you get. The best I've been able to squeeze out of this board is around 50ns.
Well next to having his wife in his I hands, I guess :up:Quote:
wow, does it really mean a lot to you?
THX very much boys because my Biostar wouldn´t like go over 450 FSB
thx for your Bios setup i try it.
