*UPDATE*
F6b..............bad for overclocking it seems, and my X-fi aint working no more *peeved off*
*goes back to F5*
I had the samething and I fixed it by installing the drivers again. Working so far.Quote:

OK, here is where i am at right now, my voltages are (G)MCH is to Normal, FSB also set to Normal. My Vcore 1.41250V. VDIMM is set to 2.125V.

I've had it upto 420FSB, but decided to Orthos at 2.9Ghz...2 hours 23 mins stable thus far.
F5d is an awesome bios :), I'm at 410 x 8 and orthos stable :D. I'm just waiting for DDR18V - my ram needs 2.2V for 800Mhz plus - to be fixed before I get to my goal of at least 3.4Ghz :D (I want 1Ghz OC!!!!).Quote:

richard you have a 6600 quit pissing around with lower multis lol hit 9x and see if you can hit 400 easy.
im still sitting at 412 x9 didnt have time on lunch to try higher but will do more tonight.
and gskill 6400HZ STILL WILL NOT work at 1000mhz and i mean stable..
400x9=3600Mhz...i don't think it will hit that speed without a HUGE jump in voltage, to my mind it's not WORTH running 1.55V throguh a €400 CPU.
First things first, test and see what the highest FSB is first using the lowest possible voltages, then i'll work up.
If i get 3Ghz from my Conroe i'll be happy.
I'm gonna test the HZ later with 1000+ MHz.
richard if you can NOT get 3ghz your in trouble i mean that very seriously
if you cant get 3.2ghz at under 1.5 volts then you need to sell that chip and get a new one.
seriously though you must have one of the first chips released and they take alot of volts to overclock.. id sell it and get a week 27 or higher.
hell you got 4 bones i'll sell you mine. that will show you what the Dq6 is good for... :)
3.7ghz @ 1.44v easy as pi... pun intended.
and just so you know 1.55v in no way shape or form is going to hurt that chip.
its just going to get insanely hot so you need to have some damn good cooling.
i dont even run 1.55v into my water cooling cuz it gets too hot.
I ran 1.6V earlier and all is well, max temp was 63oC on coretemp with arctic coooling freezer 7... but that was only a tester run of 3.6Ghz, to see the temps and stability.
Well I have installed it again and it has done jack s*** to sort it outQuote:

I tell you, sometimes its tempting just to sell the DS3 as a bundle with my 805D and be done with it....shame I really have to wait untill the DFI RD600 :(
430FSB...default (G)MCH + FSB voltage. Ignore the Vcore...testing only.
http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc?id=120647
Hey Lestat...look here:
http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc?id=120653
How can that be bad?...and if Gigabyte tweak further we might easily see 500FSB.
HZ 2Gb kit at 1000MHz...though not tested:
http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc?id=120660
So...Whats the general consensus on the best bios for the DS3. I've got the Gskill 2gHZ kit for ram and e6600. Thx.
2.6ghz and you ask me how can that be bad ?
compared to what you used to have thats great. now switch it over to 9x and go..... you should have saved yourself 200 bucks and got a 6400
6x 445 dont mean nuttin you still hitting squat for cpu speed. thus you just wasted all that money on that cpu
or try 8x 440 or 400... man if you cant hit 400 x 8 then that mobo and cpu are the worst conroe mix i have seen.
all that ram speed doesnt amount to much for a conroe.
conroes are different.. they dont get all crazy fast with fast ram like amd's and the old intels did.
gskills should be just fine on the Dq6 at 1000mhz but the DS3 ... something is just wrong and still gigabyte ignores it.
She won't boot with 1.5V let alone 1.55V, 400x9...
So it's either this:
http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc?id=120679
Or 414x7= 2800Mhz....which would be better?, faster CPU speed or faster FSB?
Maybe i'll buy a new E6600 and sell the one i have, or maybe there some other bios setting i am not doing correct.
There must be something you're doing wrong. I'm currently benching at 3.9Ghz with the new F5d BIOS. Best BIOS yet.Quote:

in pc health disable all the temperature crap.
lock the pci-e freq at 100mhz.
lock the dram at 2.4v
dram divider of 2.0
cpu voltage - 1.5v
FSB 400
cpu multi 8x
turn off EVERYTHING that your not using. EVERYTHING that means com ports and printer port. audio. sata... if your not using it turn it off.
and like i said earler yank out that stupid X-Fi i have seen tons of people :banana::banana::banana::banana: about that card giving them issues with their system stability.
your doing something wrong
and for gods sake... damn it put your hardware in your signature area so we can see what your hardware is.
:lol2: LOL
This is like reading a soapie, but way more amusing. Lestat, well put. Richard, I feel for you--this is not a dig at you. I appreciate where you're at ;)
The thing is though, that the motherboard won't allow any more than +0.35v to be added to the DRAM without producing a DDR18V fail in the pc health section. This usually results in orthos failing instantly.
BTW I've got orthos at 8hrs 416x8 :D. I just need the DDR18V to be fixed and this motherboard will earn itself a plimpth (or however you spell it lol):

Guys...relax, let's get back on topic. OK so i'm well worn out from this whole overclocking experience. Seems with each new beta and official i have to stability test all over again.
So right now i'm here and will probably stay here until something radical changes in Gigabyte bios updates:
http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc?id=120933
Some changes had to be made in voltages, yesterday i displayed a similiar validation, however i had not conducted any stability tests to verify the settings.
To get the HZ memory to run 1000MHz i had to up the voltage from 2.2V to 2.25V. My other voltages are the same - Vcore is 1.36250V, (G)MCH is set to Normal, FSB is set to Normal, PCI-E is set to Normal, PCI-E clock frequency is set to Auto.
My multi is 7x and the memory ratio is 4:5, manual memory timings of 4-4-4-12.
As of now i am Orthos dual prime stable for 7 hours 47 mins, i am also running Windows Memtest at the same time to further stress the system, it also shows zero errors.
I think this is the best i can do, and belive me...i've tried. Until a new bios allows a higher CPU speed or i get a week 27 CPU this looks to be it.
Shing...it's still faster then an FX-60
:-)
Twas all done, dammit...i've TRIED! :mad:Quote:

Richard, I'm happy for you :). Just one thing though, how have you managed to get 2.25V through your ram without the dreaded "DDR18V of doom" message in pc health? Default memory voltage is 1.8v so you have managed to get +0.45v to work on the ram? BTW I have teh exact same week cpu as you..
EDIT:
http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc?id=120944
I expect to get more out of my ram once the DDR18V is fixed :)
Ooh the red "Fail" warning?...that still remains. Not a big deal...just a warning thingy. The memory is rated for 2.0-2.1V...but G.SKILL tech says 2.2V is safe, many have ran 2.3-2.4V through the memory...with a fan blowing on the memory.
I have a Supertalent memory cooler, has two 40mm fans...does the job.
p.s. you guys know that you can set the memory voltage to +0.325 without seeing the red "Fail" warning, right?
That's 2.125V for those who don't know.

back on topic::
anyone already tryed any F6 beta bios for DS3???
im using F3 bios cause i use EISt and C1 enable with vcore default and F4 bios and F5 bios rise the vcore to 1.42v when Vcore is set AUTO in bios and we overclok CPU .
they should use the vcore (1.325v) in all the bios like the F3 that dont rise the vcore to 1.42v, thats wy i steel using F3 bios :
400x8 = 3200mhz
EIST = enable
C1 = enable
Vcore = Normal
with bios F3 the cpu run in full at 400x8 with 1.32v and when in idle run 400x6 and vcore 1.20v .
with other bios the cpu run 400x8 in full but with vcore 1.42v , i can set manualy the vcore to 1.325v in bios but then when cpu its idle went to 400x6 and the vcore stay 1,32v and not 1.20v

Sory for my bad english :D

ye, I usually have my ram at +.35, so you're telling me that you can have the DDR18V warning message and you still manage to pass orthos "blend" test?
Yes, the red "Fail" warning displayed in PC Health is just a warning message...nothing more. It won't effect overclocking. It's the same as how Gigabyte changed the colors for the different DDR2 voltages.
Normal color upto +0.300V, +0.325-0.500V is pink, 0.525-0.775V is flashing red in color. It's just to warn folks.
ill also confirm that f6a for ds3 voids the x-fi
lowered my max fsb as well [435]
still stuck at 440 with f5 final but by far the best bios release for me
Please report your experince to Gigabyte technical...only way to get it fixed is make them aware of it.
do you have screenies of orthos blend stable? Seriously I am very skeptical :p:Quote:

Increased voltage and/or cooling seem to make no difference. I keep hoping new bioses will help, so far no luck though.
I get exactly the same problem when I raise to 390x9, I can put all the voltages in the world and it still won't accept it :(Quote:

CPU speed is wrong, for some reason if i use a multi other then 9x Windows XP displays the wrong CPU speed. CPU-Z and bios shows the correct speed..dunno why?
what do you mean windows xp ? do you mean the System information screen like when you first go to device manager ?
well sh|t son dont ever look at that to see your cpu speed... ever
take the 5 seconds to open cpu-z it wont lead you wrong
ok someone who hates their DQ6 or DS4 send it to me... i want to prove they arent the big pile of crap everyone thinks they are. they are just tempermental.
Richard.
we should swap boards lol let you see what a good one does and at 100 bucks less than what you paid. :)
seriously though i would love to get my hands on a DQ6 to test out especially one someone claims is jsut so frustrating to work with!!
It's getting better...i was about to either RMA my board or sell it, since the new F5d and the advancement in FSB i'll keep it. Hopefully further bios revisions will improve things.
Well I have applied for the RMA for my DS3, I cant afford to have a mobo acting up as much as mine has at uni.....think I might ask to upgrade to a P5B deluxe instead
just got a DS4 , F4C bios , straight boot to 475 , 1.425 Vcore , +0.15 MCH+FSB voltage. Nice.
Dammit...how long does it take to complete a full round of Orthos again?
it's non-stop
Like it says when you start the test "begining continuous stress testing" or something like that
I have sam problems with the new F5c bios as well as with all the other bioses. 8x400 boot is a no go in close to 100% of the cases no matter if I turn the voltage up as much as i dare. But I have clocked it like this with EasyTune @ the same voltage?!?! How can it be??
Got my sweet spot :)
http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc?id=121068
Not the fastest, but I have been aiming for a 1Ghz overclock, ram is running at 950Mhz.

Like....what the hell?
I think is the memory voltage as i had already tested the CPU for 12 hours stable with my current voltage. So i have upped the voltage by another 0.025V and am testing again.
I guess the lesson is...Orthos needs to be run for a VERY long time to test stability properly.
come on gigabyte bring us more bios's
and someone better damn well focus on getting the Micron D9 running.
I tried running 8x400 FSB on my E6400. Not enough volts to the core though - 1.40V in the BIOS is only good for one hour of dual Prime95, and then it rebooted. Ooops.
Right now I'm trying with EasyTune and upping the volts by .05V. Easytune reports the vCore as 1.44, with an EasyTune vCore setting of 1.42. CoreTemps are hitting 71C while before at 8x375 I would be prime stable for a few days at 64C.
I don't think it is worth the 6-7 degrees C for 200 more MHz, but I'll test it anyways just to see if I can do it, then downclock to 3.0 GHz for regular usage.
BTW, is there a way to adjust FSB and vCore simultaneously from a utility? I can't get CrystalCPUID 4.8.2.310 to adjust the voltages, only the multiplier! And it can't adjust FSB. It would be nice to have an all-in-one tool for that.
I've had trouble with SetFSB - if I boot with stock settings, the RAM runs at 1.9V, and if I increase the FSB the system locks up because I can't adjust the DIMM voltage without using EasyTune first.
yeah you use easy tune to adjust that.
and thats why you set everything in the bios silly stop using that crap arse easytune..
Oh I usually do everything in the BIOS. But, I would like to downclock and downvolt my PC for light tasks (watching DVD, surfing) with one tool.
So there is no utility, even command-line driven, that can downvolt the vCore and lower the FSB and multiplier without having to run a million programs? If EasyTunes had a command-line for this it would be easy!
At 6x multiplier, 266 FSB, and undervolting, I could have a very nearly silent system - it would be awesome.
I found the registry entries that Easytune uses:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Gigabyte\EasyTune5\Save
I could try writing a batch file that kills the currently running EasyTune, rewrite the registry settings used by EasyTune, then launch EasyTune. If EasyTune can automatically load your clock and voltage settings when launched, then I should be able to create different batch files for different clocking/voltage profiles.
I will have to play around with EasyTune more - it may not be possible to launch it and have it apply settings automatically.
First Post. I got a DQ6 and E6400 at 400FSB 3.2GHZ
http://justoverclockit.com/pics/dq64001.jpg
http://justoverclockit.com/pics/dq64002.jpg
What kind of cooling are you using? And what is the voltage in BIOS?
I'm amazed you can boot with such a low voltage, and still pass a few minutes of Orthos. Will it pass 24/7 Orthos?
My temps at load is 70-74C when dual-priming at 3.2GHz. Wow, your temps are 20 degrees C lower than mine!
I'm using a Sonic Tower with an 80mm fan inside it blowing at top speed in an Antec P180 case. Unfortunately, my IHS on my E6400 is slightly convex (a quarter of a milllimeter or less dip).
This is with orthos for 10 Hours!
I'm using Arctic Freezer 7 Pro. Lapped the cpu and the heatsink
bios is 1.3125
ram is 1.9 and the rest on normal
Nice. You're really lucky. I have to go above 1.45 to remain stable at 3.2. It seems everyone on the planet has lower temps than me (Richard excepted! :p).
My Memory is the TWIN2X1024-6400C4 and it is rated @ 2.1 volts. At 2.1 I can't get my FSB above 350 so I started experementing. I figured since my CPU is stable and I only error on blend I decided to leave everything on stock exept lower the vcore by .125 and the mem I put at 1.825 then found 1.9 stable as a rock asd my ss proves. seems like the 965P has problems with high mem voltages I am pretty sure people should give the whole memory thing a closer look. another thing my cpu had tiny bumps on top and was not perfectly flat so there were hotspots so I lapped it and my temp droped by ~15 cel. I am able to run orthos at 3.6 450 FSB for hours but I dont want to push my luck. 3.2 undervolted is magnificent. the DQ6 is a wonderfull board but overclocking is dificult. you can't throw more voltage at it and expect it to work. I am a computer specialist for 8 years and I have never seen a better board than the DQ6. I see the Asus boards are more popular because they are more user freindly than this board but that does not make em better.
i dont like the bios after F3 cause i use for 24/7 the EIST and C1 enable with vcore default and all bios after F3 automatcly rise the vcore to 1.42v .
im using bios F3 on DS3 and E6400 . I can run SPI 1MB at 3350mhz@ Vcore AUTO .
ORTHOS @ 3250Mhz with vcore AUTO
temps with core temp --- Core 1 : 29 idle // 41c full -------- Core 2 : 32c idle/ 42c FULL watercooled
max FSB 463x8 = 3700mhz @ 1.50v

e6600 + DS3 f6b bios... un-be-f*ck-ing-lievable...!!! Used to have a 380 wall, no matter wat voltages, all maxed out => still couldn't get past 380. Now with f6b: 430-ish at stock voltage...
Sweet... :hump: :cheer2: :peace:
ahh just made my new sig
F6b has killed my X-Fi as well.
After going through a ton of problems with the X-Fi and the nForce4 I'm not amused right now. Creative updated my firmware so I should be done with this crap. Come on Gigabyte.

ive said it before those stupid X-Fi cards are a pile of sh|t i have seen SOOOOO many threads around the internet in so many different forums with people haveing so many stability issues.
i have also warned you guys about running that x-fi card in these systems.
god knows we shouldnt have any issues. but god is a kid with a magnifying glass and an ant hill.. life isnt fair.. and the X-Fi card are junk in certain systems.
