Yeah, I'd say go with Memtest. At least that is what I usually do.

My R2e has been acting crazy last few days. And to boot it reverted back to a older bios during a overclock. As i had 1504 in it after a day of messing with settings and windows not booting i seen 1306. And i was like wth, but i flashed it back. But this board has some random boot issues like none i have ever seen. One minute the setting will not work the next it boot up fine. One minute it will boot up @ 4.5 next time it will not boot at 4.3. Perhaps i'm having a super bad day.
But i'm thinking about a new board at this point.
I think 228 Bclk is great. What are you using for cooling? I know my D0 is more stable under load if I can keep it a little bit cooler, especially with HT enabled.
It looks as though 238 Bclk may be the max for my system. I worked with it some today before I swapped it out to test another system. Anyway I tried several different combinations of settings while trying to attain 240 Bclk then 239 but no joy. This D0 doesn’t respond that well to anything over 1.62V at least using my testing methods with liquid cooling (cool water). It may just want a combination of settings I haven’t tried but CPU voltage doesn’t appear to be one of them.
Thanks for telling! Was really worried for a minute there. Anyways, after some more tweaking with the relative VID settings, I now really like it. Reduced my idle and low load voltage a lot, and I can achieve the same overclock with slightly lower full load voltage as well.
Hi Guys,
Just got my R2E delivered today and a new D0 920 (3908A419) chip to do some overclocking on water.
I am using Corsair XMS3 9-9-9-24 1600 (platinum series) ram but I have 12GB of it.
Do you see any pitfalls with this combo?
I am running into problems with 1504 again. Still the same old no POST problem. It happens without warning after a regular reboot from vista64, then it just black screen with fans running. I did manage to get a 'stable' overclock according to linx, in fact this problem occur before on my system with stock clock speed. Am I the only one here experiencing this with the latest BIOS?
I have the following problem with 1504 BIOS, every time I change some overclocking settings in the BIOS the PC trys tor estart but fails to boot up, only LEDs on the mobo are on, fans not runing, the only way to make it boot is by turning off the PSU completely then on.
Had the same problem with my X GAx58-extreme mobo which I replaced witht he RIIE.
Thats beginning to sound like a PSU problem to me.
guys...im running at 4ghz with idle temps of 53-55C on cores and prime 95 load temps at 75-77C...is this okay?
also NB and Sb temps are 63C and 60C when under load otherwise....60C and 58C...
am i safe?
(HT disabled)
PS-ambient temps are kinda high like 32C-34C...what i wanna know is whether this will damage my chip or anything else?
I just got a new 920 with the S-spec being SLBEJ. This is a D O step correct? My old one is an SLBCH which is C O.
I am just trying to confirm before I open the box.
I am hoping that I will be able to get a good stable 4.0 on air with a D O step CPU.
Don't forget that one of the features of this board is that it has 2 BIOS chips installed. When you are on BIOS 1 and flash it to a newer version, BIOS 2 is not automatically updated. You have to manually update BIOS 2 as well. What you are experiencing is the the BIOS switches to the second chip if you use settings that prevent it from booting. The best thing to do is set up BIOS 2 with safe settings that you know are good so if your settings for BIOS 1 don't work, you can still boot from the other BIOS.
Yes i know i only use one bios as i keep it on bios 1 because if i have issues i can switch to bios 2 and move it back to bios 1.
Like i was saying i did nothing but overclock and it reverted back to the older bios. 1504 bios is also slow acting also. Pauses a pretty good bit.
Just got my RIIE today :)
This is what I've been able to do so far on stock cooling. Any tips for the RAM? I can't seem to get that 8 to 7  Muskin 1600 blacks.

Currently running
all stock volts accept
1.65v vdimm
1.25 QPI/DRAM
Another thing, I'm new to this i7 stuff, and it's been a while since I've been in the o/c scene. How do I up the RAM speed? I was gonna shoot for 1800, but all I can choose from is 1600/1900 .. what am I missing?
Currently at 4200 with 1.4v, it seems the 12GB of ram works fine after all :)
Although I noticed with HT on the temps go up to 77c on prime95, HT off its in the high 60's.

when playing crysis or other games load temps at 70C
also NB and Sb temps are 63C and 60C when under load otherwise....60C and 58C...
