Forward: official GIGA 965P-S3/DS3/DS4/DQ6 beta BIOS

Hi there first post on this thread, please be gentle:)
I'm having issues with overclocking on a DS4 with the F3D BIOS, I have problems with overclocking RAM, I have 2 sets one is Geil 6400 Ultra 4-4-4-12 and the other Kingston 8500 5-5-5-15.
Strange things are happening the other day I got 371 X 9 with the X 3 multi on the Kingston ram, this was 9 hours memtest stable with timings of
5-5-5-15-10-10-10-0-10
Then after trying to up it to 375 I got no boot so I reduced it one by one and now it will only run at 366 X 9 on the 3 ram multi.
I thought is it the CPU so I increase the ram multi and lower the fsb to reduce the CPU speed no matter what I do it will not run on the 3.3 or 4 multi unless the total ram speed is below 1050MHZ yet it was stable at over 1100MHZ I have also tried voltage options but nothing at all makes it go higher, from 2.2v upwards makes no difference at all.
Slackening the ram timings also makes no difference. I am confused though about some ram settings I know what the first 4 settings do ie 5-5-5-15
but the others that follow ie 5-5-5-15 then the next 10-10-10-0-10

What is slackening the last timings is it higher or lower? I have tried as low as 8 and as high as 15 but the settings of 10 make the best overclock.

I have read quite a lot on here but I cannot find anything specific to my problem, I don't think my CPU is the best there is but what is confusing is when I increase the multi on the ram to 3.3 or 4 I cannot get higher ram speed. I have also tried increasing the othe voltages but it doesn't help.

I cannot find what would be the best current BIOS for the DS4 either, any help or idea's would be appreciated it's doing my head in I've spent 60 hours this week and I'm no closer to finding out whats wrong.

Are you people mentally challenged or what? Didn't you see that bingo copied the informtation from Gary at Anantech and pretended it was his? We already posted that. Read and learn...if you are capable.

Would you be able to help me with my problem as 3 posts up? I was hoping to be able to find the answer here, I jsut don't want my cry for help to be swamped and disapear un noticed.

I've found another annoying issue with my DS4. I have my C2D E6600( 9x mult. ) running on 400x8 (3200MHz) BUT WindowsXP SP2 recognizes the CPU as 3600MHz and even CoreTemp shows 450x8 (3600MHz). Only CPUZ shows correct 8x400.

Does anyone know how to fix that? PLS help :mad:

First, I don't have the DS4 so I don't know what the differences would be from the DS3.

Second, I won't have my E6400 until monday and my D9 memory until tuesday so I don't quite know the ins and outs of overclocking the c2ds.

kimandsally . Once a new bios flashed OK ,clean bios with 2-3 pin position then 1-2 again . Then go to bios and set all mem timings to auto .Take time to do some changes with a plan . I have a pair of 1Gb Geil 6400 at 450fsb 1:1 on a DS3 rock solid .

The Intel Matrix drivers are dated October 11th 2006, the HECI driver is also updated, the Intel INF files are also different...at least some of them are, one of the devices in Device Manager got an updated driver file.

Maybe, just maybe this might fix the X-Fi problem.

I just tried to see if I have the same thing in my device manager, and I dont. Im running all the latest drivers, and INTEL INF files, yet under PCI bus I have nothing listed:confused: Am I doing something wrong?

just so people can see what he is doing, he is going under view--> devices by connection.

but the pci bridge shot is natural, it should hold what devices are tied to the pci bus.

but how you found that the pci bridge got updated, i'll never know lol. unless you saw it install the driver.

As far as the DQ6 is concerned, as far as I can tell, it is affected by the micron D9 issue. I spent 8 hours dinking around with this mobo, and let me say it is so finicky! If you don't get the voltages matched up perfectly, the mobo will go into constant reboot cycles. I've tried 8x450 (3.6ghz), then anything higher noboot, however, I've seen as high as 9x433(3.87) boot, but not run stable. I was able to get 9x415 (3.74) Ghz run 100% stable @ 2.550 volts, but it really showed up as 9x414 in cpu-z. In all of this process of overclocking, I lost my x-fi multiple times. The more I played with my overclock, and voltages, the more I lost my x-fi. Currently @ 8x450, I am not losing x-fi at all. The memory timings are also a nightmare in and of themselves. If you don't have the right voltages, then your screwed, and be ready to clear CMOS manually, I've found that +.4000 seems to work the best (2.2 volts)

I've found that when the dq6 is in a endless reboot cycle, pressing the reset button before it resets itself is able to restore the cpu back to stock clocks.

I also would like to mention that the Robust Graphics [Auto, Fast, Turbo] upon initial testing with the Doom 3 benchmark(1280x1024) stock clocked 7900GT, yielded an almost 8% increase in fps from Auto to Turbo mode, with my PCI locked to 100 always. I haven't overclocked my gpu yet, but I went from an average of 146 fps to 158 fps!

Well, needless to say, I am looking forward to getting a fix for the D9 issues, and will continue to hack away at my mobo, and will report in possibly with some 3dmark06 scores regarding the robust graphics setting.

I did, i manually installed the driver and saw it being updated. The drivers file is January 2005.

Click on the specific device in Device Manager, if you go to the driver dialog box it'll show it's using a generic Microsoft driver, when you update it'll show Intel and dated January 2005.

I am getting an annoying issue where my Raptor 16MB isn't recongnized at cold boot. I.e. I turn on the system and it will say no boot device when it's time to load O/S.

CTRL-ALT-DEL and it boots fine. I tried setting the HDD as manual but it didn't help. How can I fix this? It's damn annoying. The board is S3 and the bios is latest official.

Ok, after further testing, I've realized that the dq6 may not be as affected by the d9 issue as much as I thought. I am writing this in what seems to be a stable 8x466 (1.55v) @ 4-4-4-12 timings on my g. skill pc 6400 @ 2.35 volts. It seems as adding the volts to +.550 seems very solid, and gives this ram the extra umph it needs to get solid timings on this board. I was able to boot into 8x475 @ 5-5-5-15 timings, but I think I am running into a temperature issue as my temps in TAT are hitting 72 :/ ... So, I will report back to you on the stability.

As far as the graphics turbo vs auto.. id have to say that w/e this is, it packs a hell of a punch for games, and seemed to add stability to my x-fi issues. I don't have screen shots, but heres what I got on my stock clocked 7900GT.

what do I update it with? the .exe INF intel file? I would hate to bork my windows install if this isnt really going to do anything, you know what I mean.... What is to be gained by doing this? Thank you....

the D9 issues doesnt show itself until you hit above 950mhz. i have yet to see anyone have issues below 950. One thing i have noticed is that anything above 2.2v actually causes issues so drop the vdimm down to 2.1 or 2.2. D9 doesnt usually need more than 2.2v in order to hit 1000mhz 4-4-4
and i havent seen anyone with a DQ6 have D9 issues either.
I think Richard Dower was running his at over 1000mhz. and i swear have seen several others do it without any issues.

Turbo and Fast WILL limit your OC. it will.. you cant run those and OC with these boards. I cant confirm but believe that it tightens the chipset latencies.
I have double checked with memset965 and it doesnt adjust subtimings of the ram so its gotta be going after the chipset latencies.

it overclocks your video card.
i used Turbo or whatever its called and it clocked my 7800 GTX to 460/1200 (600mhz actual)
although,,, nvidia coolbits reported it as 460/2400 which i thought was wacko,
considering 2400 is impossible, thats like 1200mhz actual realtime data speed.
wrong! lol.

but it does work just make sure your card can handle it though.
and it overclocks all the time, not just for 3d apps. It will override the 2d/3d modes of the card.

Good reply, that helped me out as well, cause I was thinking the same thing, WHAT THE HELL DOES THIS SETTING DO. Got it now. Im currently @ 460x7 and have this setting @ FAST, not turbo, and knock on wood, seems to be ok
