Hello America xD
Im gona buy a Opteron 165 or 170 therre (in USA), Im from Chile, so I can't go to the store and choose the stepping I want.
Mwave and monarch computer are the cheapest resellers, do you know what stepping do they have?
And the worst stepping I could get, how much would oc?
And a last question...
Amd is going to cut the prices, but some stores (mwave and monarch) Already have prices like the new..would they cut also? and....is going to come more stock?
Hi, I'm posting to see if any of you have any suggestions. I've taken my Opty up to 2.9 (prime and super pi stable) but I'm having trouble hitting 3.0 stable.
List of things I've tried
1 : Upped vcore to 1.415
2 : Lowered divider from 150
3 : Fiddled with timmings
I'm kinda stuck any ideas
http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc?id=132037
Vcore at 1.5-1.55v and prime at 3.0Ghz
Dont forget to up your chipset and LDT volts a notch, and keep your memory way under its normal speed. Raise afterwards.

Well I'm on air and anything over 1.42v causes core 1 to push 58-59c and eventually fail prime (core 1 runs about 5-6c hotter than core 2) . Maybe a better cooler would help me but I figured it should be enough. I'm not brave enough to go lidless or any thing crazy like that. ;)Quote:

got this ccbbe0615epmw from newegg last week this is how it pperformed , i think it has a bit mor to give but i got to my goal and did'nt want to push it
EDIT something i noticed about task manager shows the cores as messed up but i assure you that both cores were at 100% with p95 and will redo prime next week so there are no questions
Most good stepping opty's need at least 1.5v for 3.0Ghz.Quote:

Same Ram as shadow, the Ram runs 275 2.7v memtest stable. I can't get 3.0 with a FX-55 or a naked 148. 2.9 is the max on all 3 CPU's, or just a tad over 2.9, The FX dose 3.0 @ 1.40v under phase fine. It's the only one not cold bugged.
As for this 165, seems 325 is the max for both my Expert and Sli-DR. I'v tryed everything. Tryed 100 mem, x6 CPU Multi, 325 is the max both SP2004 stable at. Can post about to 334 and SuperPI fine, just SP2004 fails at anything over 325.
I'm using the 406 BOIS from DFI. And I see shadow is using Big Toe's Bios.
Been spending money just to get 75mhz faster. I bought this CCBBE off ebay because I almost for sure thought it would do 3.0 . But I guess my mother board needs better cooling. But it never gose to 55C on the NB chip. I have the same as shadow, 1 core is about 5c hotter than the other. I can run up to 1.6v befor it hits 60c in SP2004.
Anyways I'm just going to follow what people say to shadow. So I can try the same.
Peace, Nugz
guys, need some help here, i have problems getting 3.0ghz stable, most of the time core 1 would fail within minutes while core2 can go on and on.
chip is ccb1e 0550vpmw
dfi venus board.
gskill 2GBhs rams
currently trying to prime stable at 290x10
vcore is 1.530 (1.125 x136%)
my previous attempt at 2.8ghz passed 6hrs of prime before failing. but it failed OCCT 3 times at 3 very different times and on the last attempt, it passed occt. vcore 0.00% ripple
occt and prime temps nvr breached 39degC

Testing in progress :stick:
I'm actually running a little cooler than that now. I had a bit too much as5 and it was ruining my temps. I'm actually on a scythe mine cooler with a yate loon 120mm fan. I also had the fan running at like 800 rpm :slapass: . My case airflow is pretty good. I have an Antec Sonata case with Yate loons. I'm currently running outside the case and my max load temps are 46-47c core 1 and 41-43c core 2. I figure about a 5c increase once I reinstall it into case.
Hey Nugz, what batch is your ram? I've never been able to break 260 with them without failing memtest. 261 = :nono: Any settings you use to get you to 275?
0512 first 4 numbers. right? need 2.7v to pass 275, then kind of stoped there, can get into windows at around 290 2.8v but errors in memtest.
On the setting
DRAM Drive Strength........................... 7
DRAM Data Drive Strength...................... 4

I have 0603 sticks. Whats the tref in bios, if you remember. I have it set to 3684. I've been priming at 3.0 for about an 1.5 hours right now at 1.42v(windows) 1.45(bios) temps are a little too much core 1 55c core 2 47c .
I'm running outside my case so I know I'd need a better cooler. A ninja or big typhoon I guess. I could use a fan with more cfm but I really hate noise. :D

You need to upgrade your PSU before start blame your mobo - cpu for OC wall...
Easy as that uh?
325 x9 1.45v Bios, 44c-45c no problem, SP2004 stable.
333 x9 1.55v Bios, 51c-56c errors in mins.
The video cards don't do anything, other than sit there in desktop running SP2004.
Thanks for the help, just shot out, your hardware sucks, "buy more". I really can't see my self spend more at the moment.
Thanks
Nugz
edit: I see your point, will not even try anymore utill I get a new PSU.
My friend.... you don't get the point....:(Quote:

Its almost the same power if you play games or do some SP2004 X2 Benches.... and probably on games scenario you need lower power....:D (In case the game use Single Thread Code execution)
In my case (600Watts PSU OCZ) if I want to make my system stable at 3200Mhz@ 1.52 Vcore, I switch off HDD's - DVD's - Extra Fans otherwise my system will crash after 5 minutes on ORTHOS bench.....

I also need better PSU to get my OC at max ( 3330 MHZ water-cooled)...
Now I hope to get much clearer picture..... :D
I really do understand man.
This PSU only has 500 watts.
Would this one be good?

or this one
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817703004
lol
Like one review says. A house hold braker can only handle 1800watts, 20amp.
This is getting bad, sometimes durring the day, I can't have my gaming computer and this computer and the washer going at the sametime, the braker shuts my power down. More power from my sockets? OMG lol
Hehe.
Peace, Nugz
The PCPower&Cooling you posted would do the trick. A little spendy though. This one here works great running 2 1900xtx's and a dual core FX at 3.2 24/7 and doesn't skip a beat.

Much easier on the wallet.:)
Athough I respect Dagidilis' opnion I dont really agree on wahts going on here.
An overclocked Opty at 3.0Ghz with 1.6v would need about 280watts. Your 500w PSU should handle that fine, if there is any problem it is with the amperage on the 12v. Now, Im guessing here but I would say anything over ~30amps should suffice. Most modern PSU's that are bought by the typical XS member are around 40amps.
Besides, plenty of people without 700w GameXstream or 1000w PCP & C and stable. How do you explain that?
Its a common misconception that Opterons get to 3.0 easy, 3.0 is a big line and I can thell you that Ive been through a LOT of them before I found one that did. I even had a CABNE 0528GPMW that couldnt get 3.0 stable, so even killer steppings have their bad ones. Really, its annoying as hell, but most will in the 2.9 range easy but 3.0 is borderline for about any 939 chip (look at the FX-60 for example, lots dont even get 3.0 stable).
I know some will hate me for what Im about to say but here it goes... You should be looking for an optimum between added Mhz and Vcore, not set a predefined goal that you want to reach. 2.9 at 1.4v is a real killer OC that is gonna give you more good than to force those last 100Mhz that you will only notice in benches and drives your temperatures and power bill up while decreasing the lifespan.
Nugz have you tried Big Toe's bios? Could be as simple as a quirk with that bios and your gear. Don't know if you use speed fan or not but it has a rough little graph you could wath while running orthos to see if your getting voltage droop.Quote:

I'v been prime'n for about 4 hours at 323 x9 "2906mhz" 1.45v in Bios, CPU-z says 1.40v, 1.44v real DMM checked during use. Seems all fine here. Mem at 166 = 264 3-4-3-7 2.6v . 7/4 Data Drive blah 1.3v LDT 1.70v NB MBM CPU temps says 42c Core temp says 46c Core#0 52c Core#1.
I can run my FX-55 under phase @ 3300mhz 1.50v in bios 1.49v real, -40c for hours prime stable with these PSU's. Guess a FX single core is different than a 165 Dual core. hehe.
I'll try Big Toe's Bios, But DFI/ that one guy, just takes Big Toe's stuff and adds it into the latest Bios so, I don't know if it would help any. But worth a shot.
Peace, Nugz
Might want to try Tmods bios cd over at Dfi street. It's an iso you can burn that has every bios you could think of for dfi boards. It even flashes in dos so less worries about a bad flash. You should check it out.
This soon will be my new PSU.... :D
