Try Linx, i have a 3842A and was about 8 hrs stable, but linx crashed it in 10min, i need 1.420v vcore to run stable at 4.2 although for 24/7 i have it at 1.375v at 4.0ghz 100% stable.

I Agree, but isnt there an options in bios to reduce both power and multiplier? sure it wont shut off if i think moore :)
good idea actually, im also on water so, failing pump or just something wrong would like me to turn it off, though i leave it on often when im not home.
better put this app to startup or something :) even though its ma min prog, doesnt coretemp shut off too?

The MoBo wont shut down the system? Are you sure?
On my R2E I set the temp to 90C. Once my wife had turned the fans off on my radiator while I was gone on a trip, she couldnt figure out why the comp keep shutting off.
The UD5 has similar options in the BIOS for CPU temp.
with the same procedure of the ud4, the mod wok's for transforming an UD5 to a EXTREME!!!!

Jupp, flashed mu UD5 to Extreeme yesterday to! with F6i bios, works so far.
What is the benefit of the extreme BIOS over the UD5?

My only complaint about my UD5 is that it fails to do EIST properly. That is, at Bclk above 139, My vcore voltage does not change
dynamically as designed by Intel (although the multiplier does change). Below 140, EIST works right everytime. Has anyone tested this? Results? I reported this bug to Gigabyte and they told me to load optimized values, then EIST will work. Obviously are they are in denial if they think any end user is going to cripple his board's performance by grossly underclocking it. I've tried many bios, all crap out at exactly 140 Bclk. Anyone get this to work at a normal Bclk value?
From the limited feedback on here about bios F6E for UD5 it would seem that it is not good, but we have not seen a new bios for UD5 for a while - anybody know what is going on?
I have not tried bios F6E myself as I am reluctant to because it still does not resume from S3 sleep mode, requires higher voltages for same oc, and to cap it off ithas the flash problem as well ie not easy to return to a previous bios.
Come on Gigabyte lets have a decent bios for the UD5 please.

The pic is from Ianuary 21 2009. I used a CM z600 + 2x120mm Antec TriCool @ High for cooling the CPU. The bios was F5f if I remember well.
It's not meant to be used with overclocking, plain and simple. 300 posts on this same subject...it's getting old.
I really don't understand this thread. 90% of the :banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:ing is about power saving options and how it fails when overclocking. The two together just sounds absurd to me.
If you're conserving energy...is the i7 even a wise choice?
Offcourse it should work, when you don't need the horsepower it should clock back (this works) but because it fails to lower the voltage the fans have to be on higher then necessary

Point taken. I've honestly never used it. It's the first thing I disable and have since the E6600. That is the 10000th thing that I would look for in a $450 board. And honestly, I wouldn't care if my GPU's didn't downclock either. It pisses me off actually, and I am positive it affects benchmarking.
There are a few dudes here toting that they have low voltage/high overclocks. The need for power saving options just seems ridiculous looking at this forum and the bigger picture of overclocking.
I also dont really care for idel consumption since my computer is always under 100% cpu load, but load consumption could be a bit lower. 350W 10h a day eat quite some money. :D (~230€ a year) would be worse with 24/7. :D
Sorry that I am going to say this but imo an o.c. is worthless if things stop working as they supposed to
I now have an o.c. of 4.123 Mhz this I consider my stable o.c. my 965 can do 4522 easy and maybe more but not with gigacrap if things stop working
