May I ask how you know the NB temp? Is that the system temp?

what bios are u using strange|ife? are you using HZs?
We just may have gotten somewhere now. I tried your settings and got an instant shutdown when enabling them in uGuru. So I backed the MCH to 1.65 and the ICHIO to 1.81 with vCore at 1.425 which gives me 1.36 at load ( I really need to do the volt mod ). These settings got me 7 minutes of Small FFT's before Core 2 crapped out. So I upped the vCore to 1.4925 and got an instant shutdown upon firing up Prime. This thing just hates high voltages. So I just went to bed ans tossed and turned thinking about it. This morning I got up and went back to the first settings of MCH 1.65, ICHIO of 1.81, and vCore of 1.425. But this time I set the CPURef's to 70% instead of 67%. I am now almost 2.5 hours into Small FFT's without a whimper from it this time. I am beggining to like this thing now  Thank's Ace for the suggestions.
Pntgrd what FSB are you at...I have found that the stock 1.25v is enough juice for the NB up to 460fsb 1:1 (DDR2-920) and 400fsb 4:5 (DDR2-1000). I haven't tried any higher so I really don't know at which point you need more vMCH.
At what multiplier though? I can do 8x400 easy at stock volts. It's 9x400 where I have stability issues. Anything above 3.2 to 3.3 requires more voltage. My chip has a Vid of 1.2125, what's yours? That could make a difference. There can be all kinds or reasons. I still think I may have an issue with the heatpipe maybe being too tight. I know I cannot go very high on voltages as I just get a shutdown. I should have the fans I want to try on the Gemeni II on Monday. I am going to remount the heatpipe when I do the hs change just to make sure. I did the mod before I ever installed the board so I don't know what it could do before the bolt job. I even changed psu's thinking I that maybe i was having voltage supply issues from the symptoms. I now wonder if my OCZ was not to blame. I can't find out now as I ahve already swapped it out for 2 more sticks of 1066 Tracers, whick I need to install also. Or it could be that I just have a pickier board than most. Must be a female, huh.
E6550 @ 460x7 1:1 on IP35 and E6850 @ 400x9 4:5 on IP35 Pro. I did not have to raise vMCH in either case, all I needed were vcore and vdimm. This is not the max for either system so I am not sure what point I would need more volts to the MCH.
Actually raising the MCH seemed to cause instability for me.
Could also be a difference in the Quad needing more that you Dual  . I just know I am glad to see it finally Prime stable at 3.6. I bumped the ram up to 1:1.2=960 and tightened the timings to 4x4x4x12 and it's been Priming away for 2.5 hours now. I will start lowering the voltage to find the sweet spot after redoing the heatpipe and changing the hs. I want to see the effect of the Gemini on the getting much more airflow around the top of the board since it sucks so much with the Ultra120. If it doesn't work I will go back to the Ultra.
I think I need 1.33v MCH to get it stable at 8X400 FSB
Alright, well i am back with my HDD problems. I tested the harddrive i was going to RMA and that was not working direct sata into my board, in a hdd external enclosure and it worked fine!
I was able to transfer at normal speed and do everything as I should.
I also took the drive out of my external and put it direct sata into the board and it was showing the same problems as the supposed broken one!
Now I think it may be the board!! what should I do, is there any way to try and configure something in bios??
NO...we said the temp sensor is probably in the vicinity of NB...before i did the heatpipe mode the temp was a lot higher for system since the heat coming off the NB was not really entering the pipe system..it was staying right there and permeated the surrounding area.
I can't for the life of me get these 6400HZ sticks to post I am SO PISSED OFF! I have tried everything - do you think I should RMA good sticks?
being bored this weekend, i decided to load up everest memory READ/COPY. with 1T enabled over 2T. I could have sworn last time i did this test i gained 600 or so points..maybe it was something diffrent, it was a while ago. anyway i took some screencaptures.
iam running 451x8 memory@902mhz 4-4-4-12

as you can see very very marginal gains to be had with 1T right
now:rolleyes:
maybe everest isnt the best program to use?? for this sorta of thing.
3DMark2001 is still the best benchmark I have found to test different CPU/FSB/DDR configurations. Watch the framerate results for car, dragothic and the lobby tests, they are very sensitive to these changes.
Synthetic benchmarks don't carry much weight.
In a couple cases I wasn't able to pass cleanly through Orthos until I lowered the vMCH on my IP35. That was at 460x7 1:1. Maybe every system is different, but neither of my boards needed more MCH volts. It may be the difference between a dual and a quad, I'm not sure.
Hi,
Sorry to hijack this topic but I'm having a little problem with my IP35 PRO/Q6600. Whenever I overclock (400X8 for example or even less. I know it's stable up to 420X8) and then run Everest to stress the system, my computer locks up when I run CPU-Z. If I don't run CPU-Z, everything is fine and I can browse the internet, etc. Has anyone seen this problem before and if so, any suggestions to fix it? Oh yea, I was on 11 bios when I saw this problem then flashed to 12 beta and still same problem. Thanks.
