good call smartass... Most, if not all, of the P35 boards are 45nm ready.
Ryan
sure thing buddy. It's just a matter of selecting the right divider/multiplier depending on your clock.

Excellent; just need to decide on a different graphics :D
I'm so pleased my P5B deluxe will support Penryn. One of the earliest 965 boards turns out to be one of the best and very long-lived considering.
So next year I'll drop in a Penryn replacement, then in 09 I'll build a new desktop around nehalem and put this box out as a server or htpc or something. ;)
pk5 boars support the new 45nm??? specifically the pk5-e?
Jup mate don't worry if even the 680i's will do P35 and later chipsets will surely support Penryn

Damn, even old 945 boards support 45nm?, i wonder if my ab9 will support it.
I see some 975 boards on that list. Would be nice if my AW9-D Max would run a Penry.
This asus table is LIE! Only P35 and X38 boards support 45nm ... my Striker Extreme dont support it ... board says Unknown CPU, for unleashing CPU power upgrade bios ... but new bios does not exists
OBR plz read what is mentioned in that table !! Where's the LIE ?
It says that the 680i boards need a bios update to let the Penryns function, are the penryns officially realeased ? Nope, I though it was 12th of November the official release date, so Asus MUST only have a bios ready for the masses then, I think they are working hard in the lab to get it done...
You just have to wait mate till it pops up on the FTP... if there was a bios For the big P it would have mentioned eg 1402 bios or later
Oh, I never expected any chipset or Socket to last forever. What made you think that? With Nehalem being what it will be, I welcome 1366. I'm NOT so happy about Sc-771. Hell, even with Dummy Pins there's NO WAY in Hell Penryn and X-35, 38, 45 and 48 should be rendered Obsolete. Just when Intel announced and shipped i965, it should have been 1333MHz FSB compat without overclocking right from the start.
Some of this is good and obvious, some just isn't IMHO! It's a damned shame my Chipset runs 10 to 12C hotter than my CPU. I can't wait to replace it. That's the only complaint I ever had with my system.
Yes, see? There is plenty of room to Pat these companies on the back when they do good but also verbally slap them up-side the head when they don't. Only crazy folks think their favorite company is good all the time, never wrong and actually cares about them LOL! Slow or long cycle upgraders always get left out. Having a computer 3 years is like having a car for 10 years IMHO!
Yep. Unfortunately. It would have been more convenient if Intel went to IMC with Conroe, then upgrading to Nehalem wouldn't require everyone to buy new mobos. Whoever buys SkullTrail (I like it :) ) will be definitely pissed when Nehalem comes. (which is why I wouldn't consider SkullTrail).
Nehalem better be a substantial change from Penryn to warrant A LOT of people buying new mobos.
 What about the E8500 9,5 multi - requires new BIOS on 45nm "ready" board, eh ?
I guess asus didn't put so much "support 45nm CPU" on motherboards boxes for nothing heh
pleased to see I won't have to buy a new mobo for penryn
But you have to overclock and already Nuke Hot chipset to run Penryn. I would have both a P 35 or 38 if the chipset were any cooler. Doesn't matter what will ship with Penyrn. It is kind of funny that folks cheered when 939 was move to AM2 will little or few improvements to speak of. At least in each case for Intel there is more perforrmance to be had.
I'll maybe chose a 8400 with coeff 9, which can possibly make 4.5G at 500 FSB (let's dream a little), it won't be a big deal with my P965 board, moreover the chipset isn't that hot at 1.35V at the moment and I'm not afraid to burn it anymore (well ok @ 1.45V I already burnt the previous one but... asus rock solid experience rules )
But even at 1.35v mine was 10C hotter than my E6600 at 3GHz. That still just ain't right LOL! That, even after several mountings of a larger heat sink with a Fan on it. I know another guy who switched his Water Cooling from the CPU to the Chipset LOL! I still give my board a 95:) The HOT Chipset and two fan headers are the reasons why I don't give it a 100%.
That really wasn't the point though. P35, p38, P45(?) and 48 are Obsolete at launch and that's the point I tried to make. Many folks will simply upgrade and think nothing of it. Some will be left out or have to choose between waiting on Nehalem or buying now. I'd not even have posted if we're talking about going from P965 and maybe P38 with none of the others. The upgrades or Tweaks are good and I look forward to them. That doesn't make the other things done OK.
IMHO 1366 is great but those cheap versions should have been Sc-775 and NOT a New 700 series at all. Hopefully between Now and Then someone at Intel will wake up change this.
