well went in to update my m1402 bios to 1406 and cant get ez flash to see the usb key drive... It only shows A,C and D options... Any ideas? The key is the same one i used to update from the stock bios on my p5q-deluxe to the 1402..I even retried formatting to see if that would work(fat--- not fat32)... Any ideas?
Why don't you put the .rom file in one of your hard disks?
I did... but still couldnt see it.... But i did the unthinkable-- used the asus update program--lol... and lived to tell about it... But i didn't download the rom from the internet.. I just loaded it from the rom on the computer.. it worked ok.. But sure hate doing it that way...
candyman--- try doing a 333fsb divider... I couldn't get much over what your getting till i went from 400 down to 333 and now i can get as high as 525 stable.. Though i do have a deluxe.. But worth a try.. Also try upping your Nb Volts.. I have mine @ 1.28 and that helped a bit.. FSb @400 is quad pumped-- so a 500 mem speed @ 400 divider is really a 2000 bus speed... But if you lower the divider to 333 it brings your bus speed back to close to what the system is rated for and allows you to raise your ram speed a bit more.. Im so tired I cant see straight-- so if that isnt what you were asking-- lol sorry about that.. Im off to bed..
isnt the 2000 showing "effective" fsb but actual is based on the fsb strap to nb? .. Hell--Dont listen to me-- i cant even keep my eyes open... I just know i was having a similar situation as you were and coming down to 333strap and upping my nb to 1.38 seemed to help me break through(though finally worked my nb down to 1.28 wth some playing)
what are you temps @ 4.4 and what stepping do you have? I have a credit @ frys and thinking about picking up one of the e8600s and seeing if i can lower my temps a bit(eo stepping seems to run a bit cooler -- or so they say lol) .. 4.4-4.5 would be nice.. 10x450--- could under volt my mem a bit and still have a pretty quick system..
right now i have almost the same system. Only problem i have right now is my co e8400 runs just a bit hotter then i like...

Production date of 8/13/08 I like it. Good old Microcenter. I settled at 469x9 4.23Ghz~though for temp reasons / memory strap reasons.
My EPROM programmer turned up today :D all I have to do is figure out why I keep getting an error saying it can't find the harware and I can get a system of sorts back up and running :toast: system running will be my stalwart AW9D-Max. Got a good board with that one, it can do 425FSB+. Not bad for a 975X chipset.
Glad to hear you are back online.
Online yes, but still waiting on some stuff. Ordered a OCZ XTC memory cooler, 2 40mm fans and 2 80mm fans a few days ago, coming by FedEX........... still hasn't turned up. Takes the piss cos my EPROM Programmer had to come from China and it got here before FedEX could farking deliver me my package coming from the same country I bloody live!
FYI P5Q Pro owners BIOS1406 has gone official. I found it on the UK site.
You probably have a fsb wall on th chip. Test your wall by lowering your multiplier and cranking it up as far as you can get her and see where you hit the wall. I got mine to boot at 4.5GHZ last night with 1:1.
Give my 1406 mBIOS a shot when I do it, it should increase your FSB limits.
Try what he said and report back. Ket I didn't know you had modded this one. I will have to give it a whirl later as well.
Your "m" bios for the P5Q Dlx, can handle PL=7 with fsb>= 450 ?
Someone did test it ? 704m with PL=7 and FSB=450 ?
Because for me the high PL is the major problem of the P45 mobos. ;)
You BOTH should be thankful :p:, its been 3 days now since I sent my Pro back to the etailer and they haven't sent me an email or anything about if they have sent a replacement or whats going on yet :\
Candyman, when I was trying for high FSB's, some of the unexpected settings in BIOS seemed to give me good luck when setting them to Auto. I tried as many options as possible on Auto (except the required CPU voltage, etc) and I was finally able to boot and keep it stable at 530 FSB and higher.
The options I'm talking about are things like MEM OC Charger, DRAM Read Training, DRAM Static Read Control, etc. Now, with the little explanation in the BIOS right hand pane next to these options, you usually get a message of "Disabled: Might enhance overclocking ability" and such, but for me that wasn't quite how it worked out.
If this info is useless and you've done this already, I apologize!
Nice start with 1406 BIOS.
I think a have more space for higher clocks..:D

My Next Target is PL 6...
sorry if im a idiot but did mBIOS 1406 get posted yet? i didnt see it, but you told someone to try it >.>
OK, sorry I couldn't help.
hey ket thanks for the wicked mBIOS (iam new here and new to overclocking but since i tried ur mBIOS i have some nice stable overclocks going)
i have my E8400 C0 @ 4GHz Prime Stable now 1.4v in win, the best i could do before was 3.825GHz @ 1.3
umm when i went to default yesterday the mBIOS went to 266 FSB, the only way to get it too 333 was to enable Ai Overclock. i dont know if thats a known bug or not

@dee, could you please tell me what your voltage is on your cell shocks to run 1300? thanks
I can't tell you exactly because I set it to 2.25v for benching and didn't try higher or lower. I changed it back to 1200MHz again now. I'm too lazy to update my sig. 1200MHz is rock solid with 2.02v set in BIOS.
EDIT: Actually, I think I'm wrong. It was set to 2.18v in BIOS. That would turn out to be around 2.25v "real" if this board over-volts, which I read somewhere that it does.
I have a quite big Problem with the P5Q Deluxe. When i boot my PC nothing happens. If i then reboot it between 10-20 times it Powers up. The harddrive, vga, dvdrom and anything boots up but the "beep" never happens and the screen dont turn on. There isent any error beeps or anything. When the PC then finally is up it is working rock stable with no problems in all tests/games or programs and have atm been online for about 2 days. I dont wanna shut it down when there is problems with powering up. I have tryed new bioses, ram in other slots, checked settings, voltages and so on and nothing helps. I know i arent the only one with this issue but what should i do ? All of my parts are new bought parts here from a week ago. If you need anyother information please let me know.
Kind Regards MakkeMan
Hopefully the new mBIOSes will be up soon guys. Ran into unexpected issues with my EPROM programmer, it recognises, reads, and erases the BIOS chips, but for some reason it won't re-program them :\ still working on that.
may be the bios chip damage
you can try another IC
Hi forum,
I did OC the Asus P5B deluxe, Abit QuadGT and Abit IP35 pro. But when I first looked at P5Q pro BIOS, it overwhelmed me a bit. So I did spend 2 days to read careful the whole 38 pages of this threat and several others from TPU OCN... I got some idea though but still don't know where should I start (Voltage?...) and what is the safe limit? I have P5Q pro with Ket's m1037 BIOS, Q9550, 2x2GB G skill 1000. Questions: 1. What is the expectation of this combination (4.0, 4.1...)? 2. What are the good start points for voltage? and the limit of each that I should know? 3. I can boot to windows with FSB Strap 400. Should I stick with this? What is the benefit of strap 400 vs 333 vs 266... I just wonder why Ket like to set the Strap to 400 while back in p965 era people like 333 more than 400? 4.Should I mess up with SKEW and GTL pref or leave it auto?
Thanks guy
Hi.
There is no "safe" limit for CPU voltage. It depends on several factors. If you plan to use the processor for a long time then you probably wouldn't want to push a ton of voltage through it. Also, opinions vary on how much voltage is safe. Personally, I don't like to go above 1.4v on 45nm CPU's. Intel would probably suggest something like 1.36v as an absolute max for CPU. Whatever you set the voltage to in your BIOS, it will be lower than stated. Check in CPU-Z for a more accurate reading. Example: for me, 1.3v set in BIOS gives me approx 1.26v. For my maximum OC, I use 1.4v, but the BIOS needs to be set at 1.425v.
Concerning the other voltages, a good place to start is just one or two notches above standard, for example, 1.10v is the standard for North bridge voltage on 45nm CPU's, but considering this board over-volts quite a bit when supposedly on Auto, take it to 1.12v or 1.14v. When you do this, the board sets it to somewhere closer to where it really should be. It's also surprising how far the P5Q series will go on small voltage bumps.
try to keep CPU PLL Voltage below 1.6v. 1.54v should probably be enough.
As I said, keep voltages as close to stock as you can, see how far you can take the CPU overclock, then raise gradually as and when needed.
Use whatever strap works and gets you closest to your optimum RAM speed.
Don't mess with skews and GTL's until later. These are more for fine-tuning and might not need to be tweaked yet.
I have Load-Line Calibration enabled. Without it, I get HUGE vdroop.
I like Speedstep and C1E. Running without these is merely a waste of electricity.
You may need to adjust CPU Margin Enhancement. This has been known to cause problems on quad-core CPU's, although I think they might have fixed the problem in more recent BIOS.
OK, while waiting for your help I start with this:
470x8.5 (4GHz)
PCIE=102
FSB Strap=400
DDR2=942
RAM timing 5 5 5 15 and the rest are auto
DRAM Static read control: disable
DRAM read training: Disable
MEM OC charger: Enable
AI clock Twister: moderate
AI transaction : Auto
Vcore=1.34375
CPU GTL : auto
CPU PLL : auto
FSB ter volt : 1.3
DRAM volt : 2.1
NB volt : 1.3
SB volt : 1.2
PCIE SATA volt : auto
LLC enable
CPU Spread spectrum : Disable
PCIE spectrum : disable
NB & CPU Clock skew : auto
CME : compatible
Prime95 : 5 min and runing
Real temp: Max: 67
People say that FSB should not higher 1.35 for 45nm, Is that right?
How about NB ? what if I want FSB close to 500?
What should I do now?
Thanks guys
Looks OK so far, although you may be able to keep SB voltage lower than 1.2v. Mine is still on 1.10, I think.
Yes, you may need to raise NB voltage for higher FSB's. You can go pretty high on this if necessary. I have never needed to take mine above 1.36v for 540+ FSB. Probably could have been lower. I didn't test it lower, just took it there for benchmarks and seeing if I had a FSB wall.
FSB Termination may be a little higher than needed.
Does your RAM really need 2.1v?
Hi Ket,
Thanks for your mBIOSes. I read this thread while waiting for my P5Q pro and Q9550. The first thing when I got the board was flash yours m1037 and I'm very please to do that. Beside of thank you I want to let you know that the m1037/P5Q pro work on strap 400 like charm. May be it just doesn't like your E4400 though.
In the other hand, read through the thread I see people mention about donate in order to buy you some time for the work. I'm not rich but I'm happy to shoot you $10 for the awsome work but I don't know how. I also see people said that they poor and cannot donate. IMO, $5-$10 for the unvaluable mBIOS is posiple. Why we ready to pay for ASUS crap BIOS but not these awsome mBIOSes. I think, at least 1000 people using your mBIOSes now. If they do, you have $5000-$10000, how's that!
Thanks Dee,
My RAM should be OK at 2.0. Let try that. So I should lower FSB Ter volt, SB but up the NB a little bit, right?
I belive that ket doesnt have rights to make money whit this great project
OK, after play around with voltage setting, I still cannot make it stable @4.0. It's surprise me because I can get in windows @4.0 easy but cannot make it stable? Can someone help me this? Thanks
Thanks carepolice
Yeah, you're right. It's a C1. Kind of PITA cause I can even boot to window @4.1 with 1.34 Vcore. And IDK why but when I up the Vcore to 1.35 it will not get into win. I don't want to try higher 1.35 though. Anything but below 1.35 it boot very well. Otherwise do you know what is safe VTT and NB volt for this chip. How about GTL CPU and Skews. People said it may help stable???
Oh there is many view about safe volt values, even on these forums ;)
On intels papers max Cpu voltage aka vcore is at 1.36! as 45nm technic you dont need high voltages for 20-35% overclocks!
example volts that i use for 3.6Ghz on my Q9550 (C1) and P5Q-E mb
in bios i have
Cpu voltage: 1.27 whit LLC (Loadline calibration) enabled CPU-Z shows 1.25 LOAD! Just test what voltage your chip needs for your clock, as you get to windows 4.1Ghz and 1.34 i belive that you can do lot of lower volts that 3.6 wich i use!
vPLL: 1.54
NB VOLT: 1.18
VTT: 1.14
vDIMM 1.8 (my memories stock voltage)
vSB: 1.1
vSATA 1.5
GTL's i have left auto becouse in my opinion those are only needed on high-end overclocks! And those are pretty hard to tweak none can say what is the "sweetspot" just for your gear!
Sorry for the delay with the next installment of mBIOSes guys I still don't have a main system running as the EPROM programmer I have I can't fully figure all the jumper settings out to at least revive my AW9D-Max.
Hello,
I was wondering which is the best board out of the Asus P5Q series? I will be using a E8500 with 2 x 1gb sticks of Crucial PC-8500, with Windows Vista Ultimate. I will be using a Tuniq Tower with it as well and would like to know if there will be any issue's with it. Thanks
Hi Ket, nice to see you back. I thought that you forgot this thread. Thanks again for a nice mBIOSes. Did you see my early post about strap 400? It's strange, strap 333 wasn't nice with me like 400. It harder to boot with 333 (@high OC) than 400. After played for a day I figured out that my Q9550 doesn't like Volt! It's hard to boot and hard to be stable at high Volt than low Volt. My setting as below, had been play with Voltage all day with no luck I started touch GTL and skew and wooot it gave nicer result.
My setting are:
FSB 471x8.5
FSB Strap 400 (333 not as good as 400)
RAM-CPU 1:1
PCIE : 102
Vcore 1.337
CPU GTL: 0.65x
CPU PLL : 1.56
FSN Term : 1.30
DRAM : 2.04
NB : 1.28
SB : 1.10
CPU Clock skew : 200ps
NB clock skew : 200ps
Prime: @32min there is 1 core fail. The other 3 cores OK until I stop (1hr)
Before this I did a lot higher volt for every setting but after 10min prime 1 or 2 core fail.
Do you have any susgestion since IDK what to change now to make it more stable.
Thanks
PS. when will we see the m1406 for P5Q pro Ket? It's official now.
Hi Lu(ky,
I love my P5Q pro and I susgest you to get it. Why?
1. With Ket's m1307 BIOS it have the MEM table of higher end board. I believe it with pass FSB 500 easy. My Q9550 boot @ 480 just fine (I did try higher though because I want to stable it @471 now before I think of bigger number).
2. E8500's multiplier is 9.5, Awsome!
3. It's lack 16 phase power but you won need it for the E8500 IMO.
4. About half price of its big brothers.
As care says, please don't try flashing to a diff model BIOS, you will cause the board to go into meltdown :p: The TPower arrived a few mins ago so later today I will be doing some building and then a mad dash to catch up on about 6-7 mBIOSes releases, so get ready to go on standby people :D
You know difference between the chip and backup bios ?
I could try that on my wrecked chip !
Interesting. I am curious to see how this turns out. Candy man I say overclock that thing until it pops . :p:
Crashfree BIOS 3 = EPIC FAIL. The board wouldn't re-flash the chip on my Pro for :banana::banana::banana:s or giggles, didn't matter if I was using a USB stick or CD.
lol kinda yea. No manufacturer seems to understand that NO software is any good if theBIOS is fried as contrary to what they like to say, when the BIOS gets fried usually the bootblock gets taken with it.
Think the P5Q Pro 1406m might be released today? :D
I didn't think it would work.
im excited
Hey Ket, think you could do something a bit better for the MFII??? The board is really lacking in the "bandwidth' dept... I'm using your mod bios 1307 currently, didnt know if there was "bigger/badder/faster" availible??
Probably could rejig a M2F BIOS, but I'm flat out with the Biostar mod right now.
It would be most appreciated whenever you get a chance man......
Anyone tested these new bioses yet?
Just give them a go :p:. On a happy note all of my stuff turned up today, XTC mem cooler, 80mm and 40mm fans, brand spanking new P5Q Pro, got lots of toys to play with! :D
yea i tossed em on my pqe-e and sofar they are just as good as the 140x w/e before these. AND i can see the plashscreen again <3
hi, im a n00b ocer here! wat is the url link for the latest p5q pro mobo? my stock bios is the 1104v .... im currently doing a stable 3.68ghz with hi vcore BIOS of 1.4000v using the E5200 cpu , so KETs modded bios allows 'finer/better' tunings/settings then the stock bios?
also how do i flash the bios , i DO NOT have a floppy drive :(
heres most of my bios settings:

Damn didnt notice your chip on first read :D // lol i think that he just edited it in the text after i read it first
that is pretty high vcore for that clock :)
He's using ASUS P5Q PRO so no floppys needed, If you just own usbstick you can update it whit ASUS ezflash trought bios ! And newer than 1402 bioses you can just us ezflash and flash you bios from harddisk!
I recommend to use Asus ezflash if you just own the Usbstick!
Please, don't say stupid things like this without properly reading the thread. By properly reading the thread you will find my mBIOSes actually;
- Increase FSB limits for most people
- Fix pull-ins
- Increase memory compatibility
- Custom P6 CPU table
- As a result of all of the above most people get better OCs. In the case of CPU clocking a lot say they can use less vcore for the same OC vs. vanilla BIOS.
I have found out that my TWIN2X4096-8500C5DF isent working on this board. As a single stick they works fine both of then. As Dual none of them :S I have tryed some other ram in it with dual mode and it works fine there. So my question is. Wich ram should i buy to my P5Q Dlx ? The QVL dosent have quite many 4GB kits. What is a safe buy for me ? I want my new comp to work /cry
Try the latest mBIOS if you haven't already, it may resolve your issue.
I have tryed the 1306m with no effect :( Should i go for the 1406m ? I have 1406 atm. This is really annoying for me and Asus support is just Dumbasses....
Btw. Ket i have added you to MSN
thanx for all the suggestions guys, i will try to edit my bios, i don't think i can go lower on the vcore bios voltage! if i do, i don't think the mobo POSTs ...i want a max cpu speed of 3.6 :D while using the least amount of voltage! course everyone wants this combo! i ran prime95 for only 30mins and passed so its pretty good at this pt.
not sure if i want to flash the bios tho, im kinda nervous doing that
Not defensive, just hate misconceived information. A newb reading your post and not the entire thread could easily interprit things incorrectly and as a result keep battling with an issue an mBIOS can fix.
