Oh, it wasn't for comparisation actually but now that you mention it, i'm running exactly the same CPU speed as oldtimer.
I just wanted to show 6K cpu score actually. (just bragging :D)
This morning i did a complete run and got an even better CPU score (more bragging :D):

Zeus, here is the CPU score using the same processor running XP, different MB though because I don’t have XP installed with the Asus M3a79-T Deluxe. I was just running the first tests with the new 4870x2’s in the other test, nothing special. I know CPUZ shows 4127.9MHz in this test but for what it’s worth it’s 20.5X200=4100MHz in the bios. This was the second test CPU only, the first was a complete test as indicated in the main 3D06 window.

Thanks equinox1, our systems appear closely matched. I see you have the crosshair III, how do you like it? I’ve thought about matching the crosshair III with the 965 when it arrives.
BTW, what are you using to overclock your 4870x2’s? The GPU clocking program I tried always reads the 4870x2’s as 3870x2’s so I decided not to use it.
@ msimax, thanks for all your work in this thread.

nice ben brown! 4400mhz! chilled water?
WOW! K9A2 and 4.4GHz :D
Nice one Ben
I will top that when my new HD5xxx arrives  (+some new CPU to keep them happy)
Actually no just a horrible (and I do mean horrible) scaling chip on dice. I have another 940 to try though that should scale appropriately.
I hope to do a 4x 4870 + 965 on dice run soon on that K9A2 (I want that 30k). We shall see :D
30K not happening on DI.
Not with 4x 4870, 2x 4870 x2 or 4x 4890......You need a 5gig chip......yet to find one that can run 5gig 3d on DI yet.
Multi card complicates things as well.......Ben part of your issue of scaling may have been 3 cards, bet you run 3d higher with only 2 GPU's on same chip ;)
Well thanks for busting my bubble.... :p:
I will take you at your word on the 5GHz thing since you obviously have way more experience than me. What should my expectations for these chips be, 4600-4800??
Ya I wish I had 2x 4870X2's instead of 4x 4870's, but they were not all purchased at the same time, so it just didn't work out that way. It is challenging to say the least with all of those cards.
Here is an old one of my scores with 4xHD4670 gfx on air and PII 955BE on ln2..
http://i438.photobucket.com/albums/q...atoft/wr06.jpg
Ben Brown and Riska, great scores. I don’t think I’ll be catching you Riska, not using my water cooled rig anyway but I’m hoping Ben’s score is still in range of my rig. I guess I better get back to running some 3Dbenches before I fall too far behind.
29k doable about 4900+ Ben you scale about 1000 points give or take if your scaling NB and cpu 100 mhz until you hit about 6 gig then scaling kinda waivers.
chips avg from 4.6-4950 ish is the highest i've seen on DI, more than 2 cards costs a hit, I lost 50 mhz on the same chip from 2 gpu to 4 gpu from 4950 to 4900.
The MSI 790FX- GD70 is solid on DI, might want to give that a whirl, if anything can hit 30K on DI I think that would be the board........it's 100% solid for us on DI......i've only seen the deaths happen above 1.7v on ln2 and we ran one over 1.7v on ln2 ;)
Here's a rough Idea for you.

I have tested at your suggested settings but possibly not during today’s tests, although I will check. The system sometimes scores 6K+ in the CPU tests but for whatever reason it didn’t during this test. I’ve tested using a lower multi and higher fsb to get close to the same clocks with the higher NB speed using the suggested memory settings but the test usually stops during the SM2.0 tests.
The problem I’m having is completing the HDR/SM3.0 tests at these clocks. I’ve tested for several days trying to find settings that would ease the stress on the entire system. As of today these setting are the only combination I have tried that completed the entire 3D06 run at these clocks. I finally resorted to lowering the default clocks on the GFX cards and then the HDR/SM3.0 tests completed.
Anyway, thanks for the suggestions. I’ll keep testing as there is undoubtedly many combinations that I haven’t tried.
Chew* this was the highest I could manage 06 stable, and it was done with 1.688Vcore. I could run all the way up to 1.85 vcore but not even the higher vcore could help me get more speed out of all 4 cores. The new pot manage to keep temps between 191C and 185C. NB speed was 3400 to 3500, and higher just would not function....boot. So I will not be able to get any better results wich mean - your result will be safe.
Its a top notch score man especially for nvidia.
I have been benching all week long thus my lack of attendance having some issues myself but they are minor at best.
Looking forward to benching MSI again myself.
Msimax and myself have a date with 3d03 4x 4890's and the MSI if he can ever get down here.
Can't wait to see the 03 result. It is going to be great. Was benching a few hours ago with Vivi (as he broke the 01 single card record), and a couple other team members. I'm heading back there, and will then give the Gigabyte a go with Dice.
Oh and I saw what you meant regarding the condensation on the GD70. I used art eraser and toilet paper and it worked, but there was still ice underneath the PMW heat sink. Well not underneath, but just below, and against the caps.

theoldtimer, nice score but im going to catch you.
Hey equinox1, you have any trouble completing the HDR/SM3.0 part of 3DMark06 or do you have problems with one of the other parts? This 965 will run the SM2.0 and CPU tests @4.28GHz but doesn’t really want more than 4.18 to 4.2GHz in the HDR/3.0 tests. I usually run into trouble in the CPU tests but not with this chip. I must be overlooking something? Anyway I hope you do top my score that way I have something to shoot for.
Thanks for the suggestion chew, I'll tune on it some more.
Yeah, I normally have a problem with the second CPU test in 3D06 but not with the 965, well not lately anyway.
I have the low volt OCZ platinum’s, the tri-channel kit. I also use them with the Intel i7 920 D0 and they overclock very well in that platform.
Good Luck.:)
CPU test is more NB/Core related....
The last 2 game tests failing ram is usually the culprit.....
GT 2 is usually card clocks.
Hi guys do you know why when i used to test my system with 3D Mark 06 it would give me like 21000 then when i use vista 64 it does 19500 all of the sudden?? chears

your turn theoldtimer
theoldtime and equinox1, you guys are both bottlenecked by your cpu. Remember how macci SF3D and Sampsa ran their system with 2x 4870x2? Even at 6GHz putting the cards on cold barely helped. The system was still bottlenecked by the cpu!
What i'm trying to say, when you're on the edge of stability you'd better sacrifice some card clocks instead of cpu clocks. ;)
Preety much, sacrifice some ram clocks to, slamming ram causes cpu to be less stable and really get you no where point wise......
I ran my elipidas tight and just over 1600 in the giga comp.
Get rid of win 7 as well.....its slower than vista in 06 and dual 4870x2.cfg sure the cpu score is higher but the GT's more than make up for it ;)
Here's an updated score that I liked. 720BE grass roots Ocing at its best, ddr II still has some life left in it :)

thanks for the info chew and zeus,i actually was getting ready to reload os tonight so i will try vista.
Great result Chew* ... I'm sitting at 32K with 2 cards. Could not do 5.6Ghz stable with the two cards, but I think it was my pot not really pulling in the cold as fast as the CPU heat it up....or the chip not being that great. Anyways. Great result.
That sounds great....
I finally got my other pot, but have not yet tested it with dual cards. It is amazing what a good pot could do with these processors. I only measure temps at the base of the pot.
How do you check pu temps?
Thanx for the tip. And sorry for all the questions, but how would you fit it to the IHS. I mean I tape the probe to the pot.

Your score probably went up from going from the 1:4 to the 3:10 divider, plus the extra cpu power.
The 1:4 is slow compared to the 3:10, even when you keep memclocks/timings the same.
Nice score btw.
