Up the fan speed without a doubt - then you can keep it on 3.6. Lapping is easy - see the guide. You just need some wet and dry of varoius grits and a piece of glass/mirror for a flat surface. If the IHS is not flat it will make a big difference.
Ok ill have an another read at the guide!
Testing 1.52v again as we speak.
I'm not going to up the FSB any higher than it is, so 3.53ghz is good enough for me.
My memory which is 1000mhz, is pretty much maxed out at this speed with the tighter than normal timings I have.
I could try to push the FSB to 450mhz (1130mhz mem will be), but that is the highest Enjoy got it - http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=163668 - And it needed 2.2v
2.2v is higher than the 2.1v standard, so really, im happy with 440FSB, a 3.53ghz clock and mem at 1100mhz :)
Thanks for help again, if 1.52v pulls through over 8 hours, it's running at <= 60 just now which is an improvement over 60-64 and i'll look at getting it down further with lapping/increasing fan speed.
 No worries - have a read of this o/c guide. http://www.thetechrepository.com/showthread.php?t=195
You might find it is better to get memory running lower MHz Cas 4 rather than raising the Mhz.
that needs a water loop and 1.6v stat. lol.
Thats cruel - hes new and only wants to achieve a small 3.2 overclock ;)
P.s wheres your matrix RAID setup then ? I think my cracked rib will heal sooner than I see your stats -lol! I bought Acronis 11 and am now awaiting a response from the tech support re a bootcd that works with raid on this MB. Will post when I get the response
Personally I would get the HSF I have - the Thermal right Ultima-90. http://www.anandtech.com/casecooling...oc.aspx?i=3068
It has a small footprint and great performance.
Its the baby brother of the 120 extremee which if you want the best is the one to buy but its huge. If you decide to go this route get a good 92mm fan for it panaflo or sflex. You can use a 120 but I wouldnt bother.
MX-2 paste is the one I recommend. No cure time and not conductive like AS5 and great performance.http://www.xtremecomputing.co.uk/review.php?id=402
You didn't crack your rib skiing did you?
RAID Matrix is coming man, I'm just honestly reluctant to kill one of my most reliable Vista installs ever lol. I will not image it, it has to be a clean install onto RAID if I really want it super stable. Keep me posted on your finding with Acronis though.
Oh yes - first day on a green run :ROTF: when I tried to do flashy stop, caught an edge and did a cartwheel for the hosting group instead. Made the rest of the holiday interesting - I must learn to ski properly. Acronis is good - I have tested it in Vista x64 fine - just need it to see RAID from the recovery boot :yepp: Have you installed Vista SP1 yet - I did and it seems to improve a few things.
Well, I tested my CPU using Core Temp 0.97.1 and PC Wizard 2008. Both of them showed different VID and that too very wide values:
CoreTemp 0.97.1 : 1.3250v
PC Wizard 2008 : 1.2125v
(please see the attached snapshots)
I have no idea whom to trust. Do you know any other software which gives the VID value?
I wanted to try Thermal right Ultima-90 as you recommended, but it is out of stock in newegg:(. So I went for ZALMAN CNPS9700 LED, as I am running short of time (my friend is in California, he will buy and bring it on Saturday:)). Hope this is good enough.
The Zalamn will do the job of cooling your CPU. Must admit I had bever looked at VID in pcwizard as I mainly use it for displaying the Core temperatures.. I would go with Coretemp VID reading - I have sent an email to CPUID support asking where they read the VID from and why does it differ from Coretemp reading. Will post resposne.
The Zalamn will do the job of cooling your CPU. Heres a review to cheer you up http://www.frostytech.com/articlevie...articleID=2045
Must admit I had never looked at VID in pcwizard as I use it for displaying the Core temperatures - I like the display better than coretemp-lol! I would go with Coretemp VID reading - I have sent an email to CPUID support asking where they read the VID from.
Hey man, look at it this way, your embarrassment probably made 1 if not more peoples day...maybe week lol. Cracked ribs suck, seeing that breathing is pretty much something you can't take a rest from.
I see no real positive effects from SP1 so far, but I do know that it fubared my wifi solo drivers, which cost me around 5 hours in reg cleaning, re-installing...pretty much every trouble shooting card that could have been played...I played it. Working fine now though.
ok guys i tryed the matrix on 2 x 80g wd sata 1 didn't run a tack program before and after but see windows booting faster oh and btw its on my p5w dh rig but it seems to work good im happy
Rich
nice, let's see some HD-Tach :)
ok i run one on my 36 g raptors in raido no matrix stripe 64 but how do i get it to go on the post here
Rich
ok heres a try
nope didnt work
Have a look at the matrix thread if you havent already. It specifies the best stripe size and optimum size for RAID0.The main benefits are achieved by creating a thin RAID0 for the opertating system as the first partition on the fastest part of a larger drive - about 60-80GB across a minimum of 2 drives(2x40 in my case) The more sata drives, the thinner the partition , the better the performance. You then allocate RAID1/5/10 partition on the remainder of the drive dependant on number which gives you the resilience for your data files . In your case with 2x36GB raptors you really only have enough for RAID0 and have no resilience in the event of a drive or data failure.
no i did a hd tach on both the raptors read time was worse the the two 80g in matrix rapter 88.8 80gs 146,5 not bad random access was 8.5 80g 10.3 i was going to upload it but i dont know how to show you both
Rich
easy man, alt + printscreen and that should just take a shot of the apps gui. Then in paint, past both on the same page, save it and host it on something like imageshack or putfile. Easy peezy.
EDIT: here is my SG 500g 7200.11. Insane really for such a large, single drive.
http://img186.imageshack.us/img186/7987/sg500yv5.jpg
Is 0504 going to be the last BIOS for this board? I know Asus is pretty famous for stopping BIOS maturation, but 0504 has the RAM issues. Nothing major, at least on my machine, but would like to have everything tip top.
ive been watching everyday not using 0504 but would like one more bios that works good with 45nm chips for when i upgrade one of this days
Rich
couldnt get alt + printscreen to work i'll keep trying
ok got it to save now i'll have to resize it getting there lol
Rich
see if this works first one is the rapters second one is 2 80g in matrix
lol yeah that's Intel Matrix.. insane burst.
yea thinking about putting the 80g.s on the p5k seems to load faster on my p5w dh system i likie lol
man, 4 500g SG 7200.11's put out over 4000mb burst....I can't wait.
yea maybe i'll just wait for some seagates maybe this summer
Rich
Hi guys!
Do you think high mosfet temp could lead to mobo shutdown?
My rig just stops after 15 minutes OCCT :/
CPU temp is 35/55° and fully stable on others boards
Q6600@3.6@1.30 + Ultra120Extreme + P5KP + OCZ 9200 Flex
Thanks ;)
It could be allot of things. How about some more specs? PSU, amount of devices installed (hdds, cards...). how efficient is your case flow? Stuff like that. Having this info in your sig is key.
Hey guys, i have got a E6750 with my P5k-P, however i am having trouble getting it stable at even 450 FSB, I Pushed Vcore upto around 1.46 1.47, which in theroy should be ok for such FSB rite?
My rams are Axeram from transend, D9 chip, capable to do at least 1000mhz with less than 2.15v.
Help anyone? if you can, please post your bios settings so i can try it out on my end.
the 0504 bios supports the 45nm cpus but if you have a quad with the C1 stepping you have to press F1 at boot because it says "unknown cpu detected, flash to latest bios to unleash its full potential". So I hope this isn't the end of the new bios' for this board because that is annoying. Otherwise it works very well.
Did anyone test a Q9450 in this board?
I just got my P5K Premium back from Asus and they sent me a China PCB with all red caps, says it is rev 2.00G.
The part that sucks is I needed a working system and I couldnt wait though 2 RMA's so I picked up a DFi X38 =/.
I don't have the Q9450 but I do have the Xeon-X3350 (same thing) and you will find that you need the 0504 bios and even then it will give you the "unknown cpu detected, you need to update the bios to unleash its full potential". Annoying but otherwise the system boots up and you can start OCing.
However, let me say right up front that you should disable load line calibration with the 45nm cpus as it seems to cause voltage instabilities that prevent you from going too far with the OC and also using more vcore than is necessary. Mine is running at 3.6GHz with 1.248vcore. It will run P95 small ffts for hours with all settings at stock other than the vdimm is 2.1, vcore as above, and mem timings at 5-5-5-15. But if I try to run "blend" it halts almost immediately. No amount of tweaking of voltges or timings will allow me to remain stable. The Xeon X3210 that I took out would run 3.8GHz with 1.475vcore and run P95 blend and any other configuration 24/7. I am beginning to think the P35 chipset is not too good for the quad 45nm cpus. I say this because I also have a DFI LP LT P35 T2R that also had a hell of a time running this thing above 3.6GHz. But it is running my Xeon 3110 right now at 4.3GHz with 1.456vcore (not a great chip) and a minor adjustment to the NB vcore.
I went through most of the posts here, but it is a 38 pages thread, it appears to be most of you have Q6600. i could have overlooked something. , could you kindly send me a direct link or somthing :DQuote:
What other voltage adjustments have you made? There are quite a few posts earlier showing some of our settings, have you checked those out?
Do u mean lower the multiple and see whats teh max fsb that this cpu can take up to? i have done that, at 7x, it boots up to 500, on 8, 450 wouldnt even get me to windows loading.Quote:
Have you tested to establish the CPU FSB limit? You may be trying the impossible - its an E6750 and there is no guarantee that will be able to do 450x8. If its not an ES that would be deemed a very good overclock on that chip.
Anyhow, i know there are lots of tweaking here and there you can do. But since my OC knowledge is sort of limited, i was hopeing some of u more experienced guys can give me some BIOS setting tips to get it going.
BTW, I have left most all the other voltage settings on Auto except the Vcore.
give us some screenie when you get it going
rich
Okay then - you need to do some tweaking but you need to understand what you are doing rather than monkey see - monkey do -. That way you learn nothing and could damage your system
Read theses overclocking guides to get some background knowledge
http://www.clunk.org.uk/forums/overc...beginners.html
Pk5 add on http://www.clunk.org.uk/forums/overc...s-p5k-add.html
Explanation of what settings do - for a P5E3 but similar BIOS http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets...spx?i=3156&p=4
Once you have read all that grasshopper you will be able to overclock like a master
These links and examples of BIOS setting have all been posted before. I and others posted settings recently - search and ye shall find ;)
Guys ive finally gone from wireless to wired (wohoo!)
What port is better to use? Does it make a difference?
Marvel Yukon 88E8056, or the Realtek RTL8169?
Thanks
im using the Realtek the Marvel Yukon seem to time out with my router but not sure which is better far as that goes what ever works best for you
Rich
I too cannot get the Marvel one to work (yes enabled in bios). So I use the Realtek port and never have any problems.
Thanks.
Using the realtek and it's working fine.
Probably a bit of a trivial question for most, but ive been on wireless on this PC for years. Finally took the plunge, bought a long cable (15m), and ran it through the loft, downstairs and into the room with the router.
think you will be happy with the wired over the wireless
Rich
img link fixed, lol
didnt know it was broke
Rich
I will fill in my sig once the rig works ;)
For the moment :
P5K Premium Bios 504
Q6600 G0 lapped @ 3600 (9*400)
Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme + 2 Akasa Amber @Push/Pull
4*1Go OCZ FlexXLC 1:1 4-4-4-12
Jetway 8800GT stock
Corsair HX620
RaptorX
-> minimalist rig for now
NoCase, the mobo is put on a box in a corner of the room and under a shelf.
Airflow = 0 , except CPU heatsink :/
So, i recall my issue : OCCT will lead to shutdown after 15'. It seems not to be CPU nor memory instability, neither chipset. I thought to mosfets over-temperature protection.
What do you think about it? Does this mobo have this kind of feature?
Thanks :)
Gonna have a try ;)
I hope this is the key, so i can move on and get the rig watercooled :)
EK Waterblocks are also charming :D
EK 03a *2
MCW30 *2
Not too expensive and totally noiseless!
I want the power and the silence! :)
lol, well they may be "charming" but they don't do much when they aren't installed.
ReverendMaynard for got to thank you for helping me with posting the screenie so thanks i own you one for sure
couldnt wait any longer just had to try bios 0504 out since im planning on going with e8400 or quad later on its working good so far got my clocks back the way they were so alls well so far
Rich
Tested the 0504 bios for a few days with an E8400. Bios was stable with this chip, but after I sold it and put the X6800 back, computer often refused to POST when changing something in bios. No pattern, just random. After a clear CMOS comp would post again - very annoying..
Did a downgrade to 0404, following TinTins guide earlier in this thread. Comp is now stable again.
So my advice is to upgrade the bios, ONLY IF YOU ABSOLUTE NEED TO.
im running my e6700 es with the 0504 bios for some days now no problems at all boots every morning clocks the same as before i did set defualts before flashing then cleared cmos after flash then set defualts again rebooted and set as i wanted
Rich
i have been run an 8400 with both 0504 and 0404 bios (now with 0404). they are both very stable.
the advantage fo 0504 is it gives you .5 multiplier, but on the other hand, i found it overclocking memory much worse than 0404, and 0404 gets higher scores in memory bandwith test in everest..i can run 4 sticks of 1G d9 at 1090 5-5-15 with 2.10v with 0404, 8 hours prime and memtest stable. but couldnt even boot beyond 950 5-5-5 with 2.10v with 0504.
Over on the Asus forum someone said they were sent bios 0612.
Anybody else heard of this or have a copy?
most likely a beta for the new quads 9450 or something like that c1 stepping
Rich
Posting this here as well as in the general hardware/psu section as this might be specific to this board however unlikely, running bios 204 now after reverting back from 404 and seeing no advantages.
I treated myself to a new psu a PCP&C Silencer 750w quad, to replace my Enermax 600w Noisetaker2. Reason why I upgraded was because I always felt that I was sailing close to the wind with it supplying 33a combined off the 2x18a rails and that 60a with 750w rms and 825 peak would be a safer bet for what I have and any future changes. When I fitted it last nightthe first thing I did was to check out the voltages in various sofware like, everest,pc wizard, asus pc probe2 and speedfan.
What I got was.
Everest 11.98v,5.01v,
Asus Probe 11.98,5.01v
PC Wizard 11.30v,4.98v
Speedfan 11.30v,4.98v
This was idle and with no movement priming @4.0ghz@1.6v
So next I pulled out a Fluke 117 Multi Meter and took direct readings from a spare molex.
12v=11.92v idle or loaded
5v=4.98v idle or loaded
A bit low I thought on the 12v rail but not outside the 5% margins, this was confirmed by PCP&C after a couple of very fast e-mails(they are amazingly quick to respond) who assured me all was ok.
So here is where things went a little wierd, my sound stopped working, the two fans that everest and any other software that can monitor appeared to be stuck at 50rpm,my mobo temp stuck ay 150c or there abouts and then said n/a,1 random blue screen while reading this forum. Never had a blue screen in the 7 months this system has been up! So I installed the latest update for the X-FI card that sorted that and played some cod4 and all appeared to be ok, even though the fans and mobo temp appeared stuck. Fired it up this morning before coming to work and all appears to be fine. So my question is has anyone else ever had any wierd things like this by just chaning say the psu and did you ever find the answer. Is there anything I should look out for apart from the normal, maybe I should unplug everything and replug to check for a bad contact point? Any thoughts on this would be appreciated
not sure here but i would unplug and plug in everything just to make sure im kind of wondering about mine also it's only a enermax 535 but it seems fine
Rich
What's the best bios here to use with an E8400 and 4 dimms of 1 gig ? 0504 ? some user told me he couldn't get good ramclocks with 0504 ?
0504 is the only bios that supports e8400 at this time 0402 is good with ram from what i've heard theres a new bios coming out to suppor the new quads e9450 but not sure when
Rich
I wanted to give a feedback on Western Digital hard drives
On the ASUS forums, some people reported bad expierience even with the new Caviar SE16 WD6400 AAKS. It is a new drive based on 320Mb high density plates.
Some people reported it was fixed with new motherboards they received from RMA
It looks like the serial numbers after 78xxxxx are ok (7 for 2007, 8 for month 8, that's august). By the way, they are all 2.00G
In my case, I have a 78xxx series, made in China PCB, and I took a risk buying this disk. It runs so great in my setup
So, this WD/Samsung issues should be abscent on new batches and all with serial numbers after 78xxx
Now, you can throw away your noisy and slow barracuda 7200.11 (they're only good for benches and s**ck in real world applications tests) for a Samsung/WD high performance disk.
i have 79xxx 2.00g made in china been using wd raptors in raido but no others drive so far havent had any problems at all with the board i think a lot of the problems on the asus forums are user problems but not all lol
Rich
I've recently purchased one of these and I can't get over 410MHz for love nor money with my new Quad.
It either refuses to post or just crashes before it gets to the XP splash screen...
I'm looking for 450x8, can someone list their bios settings for that?
And also, what bios is generally thought of as the best for overclocking FSB and Quads?
Q6600 65nm. I'm just stumped by this board because the ram in it can do 900MHz 4-4-4-12 (generic crap but still ok clocks) and the Quad can't be limited to barely 400MHz FSB...it just can't...
Cheers dude, I look forward to trying your settings. Right now I'm, @ 415MHz which primes for about 10mins (if I'm lucky) and then crashes the system... Or I just get errors and XP dies...
EDIT: 415MHz just crashed...
which strap are you using? 400 is a no go on these bad boys.
Still at work, but I take some pics of my bios when I get home very shortly.
Cheers
put your strap settong on auto see if that helps
Rich
415MHz @ Performance Level 15 held for 20mins before I stopped it and rebooted, a new personal best (lol)...
Now @ Performance Level 11 (333 Strap, Booster Enabled Level 0).
How does the Performance Level work? I never understood that.
I found this here in another thread...
You can check out your Performance Level in Everest under the chipset listing.Quote:
Enable: 1,2,3
no try level = 0, too slow
266Strap, Level 1 = Performance Level 6
266Strap, Level 2 = Performance Level 5
266Strap, Level 3 = Performance Level 4 <== I think, result in no boot
333Strap, Level 1 = Performance Level 9
333Strap, Level 2 = Performance Level 8
333Strap, Level 3 = Performance Level 7
OK, does anyone know how to read the NB volts? Or the vDimm, because this sodding board only reads vCore and the PSU rails on every bios I've tried. It's makes it near impossible to work out voltages when it's stable @ AUTO volts but unstable @ manual volts...
Just got my RMA # and gonna get rid of this damn problem once and for all. I love this board! Compared to my Maximus Formula (now Rampage), much better board. I can leave all the voltages (including NB) to stock except CPU @ lowest settings @ 444FSB / 4x1GB 1066MEM + transaction booster enabled -3. No way I could do that on the Maximus.
Now hopefully the fix the S3 Wake for the 45nm chips in the new bios
umm what? lol
http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/2144/wtfxe9.th.jpg
my settings 3.6ghz...super solid, the only thing that I change for 3.825ghz and up is the vcore.

I just wanted to say that I have got a some of the new WD6400AAKS's and they do work with my board, serial no. 77xxxx.
However, it appears that my sata controller has been very erratic lately.
I have two raptors, one was an OS drive and the other for games. The game drive would just drop when I went to access it in Windows. Now, my OS raptor experiences random slow downs (ex. Vista takes 5+ minutes to load on a 3.6 Quad).
My WD2500KS's that I took off of my raid card will not work on the board. The 250's show up in Windows, but I cannot access them. Looks like I need to RMA.
