New Socket F Opterons will appear in 2H 2006 as AMD newer RoadMap reports.
Some features:
- SocketF - LGA1204;
- Core - Santa Rosa;
- Manufacturing tech - 90nm;
- Base frequency - 333MHz;
- Supported RAM - DDR2 533/667/800 ECC registered;
- TDP - 55W/90W/140W depending on CPUs power consumption edition;
- Model range as usual will include 2xx, 4xx and 8xx series along with 1xx for M2 Socket and DDR2 ECC support.
- Chipset - MCP655 nForce Professional

i remember once reading that AMD delivered overclocked Opterons to Sun for their high power servers although those CPus hused more power then the normal lower clocked ones.
least i think it was Sun.
That must be for quad cores, otherwise they must be having serious issues with implementing SiGe and the new strained silicon process into their 90nm and 65nm processes - after all we're not going to see much faster 90nm processors than the current 2.6ghz sun opterons or fx60, maybe a 2.8 or 3.0 model tops, which shouldn't boost the requirements over the current fx60.

note: there is no such thing as a 400 series opteron.
note 2: 100 series will be AM2.
note 3: a TDW of 140w is quoted as a thermal MAX as AMD's pattern has been in the past.

Also release will be H1 not H2. It will be end of Q1 / early Q2 depending on where you are in the circuit.
People should understand the server market doesn't work the way the desktop market does, if you are further up the OEM line you will get the products faster because the customer almost never buys components. They only buy full servers, and the builders need to be able to test their products.
So when they say release in H2 AMD will be shipping early Q2 (Big OEM's already got their samples 4 months ago)
Also 140 TDP is max thermal on quad core (you will never get it to putout 140 watts), and it's still a lot less then some Xeons.
Also, get the facts straight:
It's LGA 1207, but the CPU only has 1206 contact points. (or 1207 if you include the lid)
The used chipset means nothing because of the integrated controllers inside the CPU. The chipset only needs to supply extra usefull hardware and has 0 impact on performance.
1xx series will be AM2 and dual core only.
2xx and 8xx series will be only dual core in the first couple of months.
All Opterons will have 2MB cache, but quad core versions with 4MB will be introduced when the time is right.
All Opterons will be DDR2 (not FB-Dimm as some people claim) and the base clock will be 333mhz, 667 effective.
