Deep Purple cascade

Hi

That had been planned as a strong 2 stager with nice purple case. With bypass valve. I use very strong 230V rotaries, two plate HXes (one as a SLHX) and 6.0kW condensor with BIG and strong 350mm fan. It's mine second try with 20+ kBTU compressors in 2 stager . Is it worth to use such strong compressors ..I'm not sure now.

But ...it works ;) .

Specs :

compressors: LG GP280 on 1st stage, plus Siam SCI NN33VAAMT on 2nd stage
evap: steeper 54mm
XV: ALCO TI-HW / captube 0.9 mm
HX: 2x plate HX , 20 plates each, one as a SLHX on 2nd stage
condenser: 6.0 Kw, alu-cu, cooled by FENGDA FDA350E4/G 350mm 230V fan
refrigerants : R507/R1150
oilseparator : Shine Year automatic
safety : 2x Danfoss KP17WB cut-offs (one to each stage), Torrecilla 2.4l expansion tank
case : Laser cutted and powder coated case (violet , RAL 4007) 69 x 69 x 54 cm, wheels
others: Bypass valve - Castel handvalve, 4*REFCO panel gauges repainted on black, ANACONDA shocks absorbers on 1st and 2nd stages suction lines, Dixell XR20CX controller (turn on 2nd stage automatically when 1st stage is enought cold), big PID controller as a temperature display on 2nd stage, clear paint coated pipes, 350mm EBM fan on back wall, cork sound insulation, aditional 230V socket on back wall of cascade - to plug PC there.

During building I got some problems ..compressors died (I've got used compressors for this project), also one brand new 350mm EBM fan was bad and stopped suddenly causing 25+ bara pressure in 1st stage :eek:. After that I decided to mount cut-off also for 1st stage and change fan for very powerful FENGDA fan.

Frame under baseplate MAG welded by me ...then powdercoated. Those compressors are VERY heavy and baseplate can easily bend witout that :yepp:.

Refco gauges were painted black ..owner want to have possible all outside adds in black color so I repaint also gauges, because I can't buy any black :(.

First time was CPEV on 2nd stage ...but it works completelly bad (regulation wasn't work almost at all :shakes:) so later I replaced it with 0.9mm captube.

One compressor worked bad, take way over 20A from socket ...crap. I changed it to another which works fine.

Electric completed . Power to 230V socket on back wall of cascade is cut off when any two of safety devices cut any stage off. So when anything with cascade goes wrong , power to PC which will be connected to back wall socket will be also turned off.

That is some very impressive work. Do you mean to tell me it was not even for you?! It looks like you shipped it out in the last picture...which must have cost nearly as much as it did to make!

Im curious about the use of the 2 - HX?
How are they being used? Also in regards to your CPEV are you using that to avoid a hot gas bypass?

Hey Pete!! Thanks for posting, finally!! But first I'd like to express my condolences to you and your fellow countymen. Wishing Poland a bright and prosperous future after the events of last week. :up:

YUP, its a beautiful (and heavy) unit. Ok, colour probably isn't to everyone taste, but hey...I like being a little different. :cool: Everybody has black, white, grey...I think Chipsy is having a blue one built..so sitting offshore in the North Sea last year an Italian collegue and I (here's your plug Marco) started scheming as to what colour I would make this Cascade. To cut a long story short...check out what colour a tin of Quality Street chocolates is and now you will see where the inspiration came from. :D

The original plan was to drive over & pick it up & (have a few beverages with Pete...I've heard these Poles can drink :rofl: ) as I was scared shipping would be astronomical but I believe it was well under 200 euros, door to door. I couldn't drive there and pick it up for that much, and with my work schedule...time is one thing I don't have. :shakes:

It was packed to withstand a nuclear explosion. :up: It took me the better part of one and a half hours to take the box apart. I bet I have enough self tappings screws to last a long time. :yepp:

Will add more later Pete, in the little time I have had with "Deep Purple" it has performed admirably. I will torture it with some 980X's when I get home & see what kind of load it can handle. So far with an E8600 @ 6 ghz+ it will not go below (or higher, depending on your viewpoint) than -104. This is 2D, 3D etc. whatever. As far as noise....I was very impressed with how quite it actually is. The insulation on the panels really knocks the sound down and while the fan does "whoosh" it's very bearable. Shouting is not necessary.

Stellar product, great communication during the build and don't want to get in trouble here, but a very fair price. If you are in Europe & looking for a Cascade not only built like a tank, but with fantastic attention to detail... this is one guy you definetly want to PM. Thank you Piotres. :up:

One of plate HXes is SLHX for 2nd stage.

I want to use CPEV to make this cascade performed as good as it can ...when You have CPEV You can tune it to that load which is exactly under evap, no more, no less ...You just can easily find the "gold place" in refrigerant flow. Bypass is another thing . CPEV for sure won't allow You to tune temperatures is such high extent like bypass allow.
(I'm sure You know all of that I just write that for another readers of this topic ;)) .

BUT ...

CPEV didn't work fine in this cascade. I can say it almost doesn't react at all for turning the knob ! No matter if knob was almost fully unscrewed, or fully screwed, pressures were almost same (around 0 bara suction) .
I don't know what was bad, maybe this CPEV ? In SS it works very good, even 1/4 of turn of knob make a result in evap temperature.

Thats odd I liked using a cpev in a 3 stage cascade I recently worked on but maybe the r14 plays better than the r1150.
