But it looks you will need a sata 6Gb/ drive to use it fully, no?

In one of the video's, LSI talks about how the new controllers will work with existing 3 Gb/s systems and drives.

It looks like the cards are available right now. Someone want to give them a try please? :)

That 4-Port card looks pretty tasty for the price. I see it comes with 512MB onboard memory. Is that more than enough for 4x SSD's (Intel 80GB G2's) attached to the card? Or is that considered a little skimpy? I've never owned a dedicated controller, so I will probably be jumping into a product like this head-first.

So if one would to hook up 8xSSDs in R0 each capable of doing 270MB/s but are still SATA 3.0Gb/s they would not reach the limit of this controller, but cap out at less?

Is the SAS 6Gb/s port really any different than SATA3? Both an SAS Drive & SATA can be connected to it. Is the card intuitive enough to be able to tell a difference what device is connected to it?

According to LSI you should be able to hock old 3.0Gb/s drives and have better performance:
“The idea here is the investment the reseller has made in the existing technology doesn’t go away,” says Suresh Panikar, senior manager, worldwide channel marketing at LSI. “If they have a need for higher performance they can add one of the 6Gb/s-based controllers. It is backward compatible.”

Yes, the card will work with 3Gb/s SATA and SAS drives, I meant that 6Gb/s functionality is available only on certain SAS drives but not on any SATA drives.

Why not? If it is really capable of those sequential rates then it has a good deal more power, so it should also be capable of quite high IOPS. It is a next gen RAID card after all. We will probably see better stuff from Areca soon as well.

Just think that $300 for the MegaRAID SAS 920-i4 and outperform $800 cards is to good to be true.

But I'm all for that as I'm yet to update my setup.
