Playing with 8GB RAM

alright chaps got me another 4 gb of mushkin 996599 rated 1066 @ 2.1V (though 2.02V is enough)

Now i have a M3N-HT deluxe with latest bios and a 6000+ F3 . problem is i cant boot into windows even at 230 cpu freq no matter what. Can someone guide me on how to overclock with so much memory?


Later on i will provide info with a phenom and 8 GB ram

lower your memory speed to ddr 800 +/- and slowly raise it till you cant boot up, then lower by 5-50 mhz still its stable in prime or occt. you have to keep in mind the more memory you have the harder it is to overclock, or even run at stock speeds for that matter (esp 1066 on that mobo)

you can leave your cpu speed @ stock until you got it figured out.

sorted , it only took disabling C&Q:rolleyes:

12X267 cpu freq , mem @ 1.985V

phenom will love 8gb :D

Is the phenom able to treat 2 2x2gb sets as if they were all connected since it has a built in memory controller?

Decided to ask here because so far your the only one I've heard of to use 8gb with a phenom.

I've been using 8GB with my 9850 since spring, Caveman. It works just fine.

do you mean quad-channel RAM access?
no, it can't do that.

only server chipsets can do that, but even opterons can't.

BTW@ea6gka: why the f do you need 8GB? ^^ i can't think of any reason but heavy virtualization or rendering.

4gb seems to be a good sweet spot now.

GIS applications , remote sensing etc. I deal with huge files

also i couldnt stand watching 2 slots empty :D lolol

DDR2 is becoming comically cheap now. That's why I have 8Gb.

I have to work with medical image dataset and with 4GB the system usualy starts to swap after ten minutes or so.
I'd like to aska few questions. Can you run the 8GB in 533 mode? To the modules have an EPP profile for that mode and what tRC does that profile have?

i can run the modules at all speeds available by the 6000 imc , 533,667,800. oced to 1066 .

Thanks, but I meant 2x533 means 1066 stock in your terms. :) I know k10 does not support it but some kit's do 4x1GB at 1066 mode, that's why I asked if yours can do that too.

But i assume that if the K8 imc can do 4X2GB at 1066 speeds the phenom can do it aswell. we will see

according to amd phenom can't run 1066 in 4 slots. if you have all 4 slots of ram it automatically downclocks it to 800 mhz. im not sure if this is true because i have seen people run 8gb at 1066 while others can't.

I for one didn't need 8GB. I just needed more than 4GB (6GB would have been plenty), and there weren't a lot of real option in between. I like to leave a lot of things running and work a bit on a lot of projects simultaneously, be it a video project, photo project, programming project, or gaming. I was often hitting the ceiling back when I had 4GB.

i don't think i ever made it to more than 2GB + cache :D
and i do have a lot of cache...kind of vista-like ^^
only without ever touching the swap...btw 5GB for me :lol2:

vista caches 5.7 GB out of the 8 GB. No swap enabled

Sure having more threads isn't good for performance, but that's just the way I roll. I like leaving stuff open because I like leaving stuff open. Nuff said. :)

I use my computer for recreation. My own performance and efficiency isn't very important in the grand scheme. heh I'll keep that tip for the ladies though. :D
