Watercooled RC-1000 Cosmos Case

I've modded a few cases in the past, so have now looked at what I can do with one of my Cosmos RC-1000 cases.

Will go into some more depth on what done so far, but on the way out and getting nagged to hurry up.

Inside will be my GAX38DQ6 Mobo, 8800GTX which I intend to watercool completely.
Its already watercooled on the CPU/GPU but I'm waiting for the X38 chipset/Mosfet blocks from EK to come into stock (Acetal).
All fluid will be orange to match.
Sorry it's a late start to post, hopefully I'll make up for it with the end results, if all goes to plan.

Very nice Cosmos! I like the orange accents on the HDD drawer handles and the controller knobs (sunbeam? does the front door still close with those?).

+1 on the mobo suggestion!

I like the the look of that board, I've been twitching about what I should buy next, that would help out with not having to strip my current build down to get this finished. I've never used a DFI before 'maybe time to try now'

TBH I haven't looked at the front door fitting, its currently shoved up in the beams of the garage as I tended to get p'd off with having to open it so took it off.

I'll see if it fits and then see what I can do with it, if it does as I've fitted 2x 80mm fans behind the front grill to help cool the HDDs, as it tends to get too warm there otherwise (design fault IMO)

I toyed with doing either orange drive bays with black handles, or the way it ended up, I think I made the right choice, as I don't want it to be too OTT.

I've got a windowed side panel on pre-order £28 (not bad) saves a lot of work.Plan to paint that black.

I'll take the front off tomorrow and post some pics of the fans.

Just started playing with rad mounting.

Theres a twin and triple rad ready ATM, but might get a PA160 and just use that with the double rad so I can keep everything inside the case.

Still got to work out what goes on which water loop, as will be 2 inside.

I have a DFi and bios is more flexible and easy than asus and gigabyte :)

Just been looking at the prices of the DFI, cheaper than what I paid for the X38DQ6, but I did get it on launch day (never again) had a dead board and was consoling myself.

I've currently got my Q6600 running 400x9 24/7 so looking for that at least.

I've got a choice between Dominator or Ballistix Tracers both 8500 to fit, but the Doms I have 4x 1GB Ballistix only 2x 1GB (would need another pair really) or get a 2x 2GB set of something?

I think there have been some funky batches of tracers over the past while. Afaik it's been cleared up, but thought I'd mention it.

Funky in what way?

My present set are double sided with the 2 led rows, I need to ensure I get the same kind if I get them, I don't want to end up with the newer single sided Ballistix.

Just that new stix would only last a few months. I don't think the performance was that great either. I think it might have had something to do with the voltage settings, but I'm not sure. I know someone whose latest stix (after returning the previous ones) are working really well.

Edit : Your case is painted or powder coated ??

Its all painted with spray cans from Halfords.

I do have a spray gun, but my garage is doubled up as storage ATM so space has been too limited to get anything properly sorted.
Once I've finished decorating a bedroom end of next week I should get the garage back to a usable space.

Well the door as expected doesn't fit 'as is'

I have now striped off the perspex to see what I have to work with underneath.

I now have a plan, but I need to do some research to see if its possible to do what I plan.

Have decided to have a reasonably easy day on it and do some work on the front as I'm out working all afternoon.

Plan to take the mesh back off finish the holes for fans and spray the front panel.

Should get the primer done and then the black surround started, will then lacquer the black before spraying the main area behind the mesh orange.

The orange won't show much behind the black mesh, but should at least add to the effect.

This is really nice :) I have a Cosmos 1000 too and would like to mod 2 intakes on the front lower portion.

Will get the black on asap, as I want to get a couple of coats of black and clear coat on before end of day ready to mask and apply orange tomorrow.

Will have to work on the rest of the control knobs for the fan controller and the handles for the drive bays as well over the next couple of days.

I keep looking at the blue push buttons on the HDD bays as well, so looking at what I can do with those.

Its not the easiest case I've ever striped down, in fact its a bit of a pain, but when you get to the panel behind the mesh it's only thin plastic, the mesh comes off easy enough by bending out tabs (see photo)

Then you need to be able to cut the main case which is thin steel sheet.

I went for 2 x rectangular cut outs to maximize the air flow around the area.

I couldn't fit 120mm fans due to construction around the drive bay cage.

Hmm, looks like it's quite a bit of work to do (for an amatuer case modder like me) :D Just as I thought so and 80mm fans would be a better fit and we need some thin profile ones.
