TJ07: The New Project Begins

So I have a few questions now that I finally got my TJ07.

Project Specs:

CPU: E6850 Core2Duo
MOBO: eVGA 680i SLI
GPU: Dual 8800GTX
PSU: PC Power 750W Quad Silencer


a. Is anyone running the eVGA 680i in this case? Did you have problems routing your PSU cables? I started installing components to evaluate my options and notice that the 8-pin CPU power cable BARELY reaches it's place on the top of the motherboard going through the provided holes in the case.
I can only imagine how impossible it will be try to run this hidden behind the motherboard

b. Can you run the motherboard upside down? I noticed the ability to remove the motherboard tray upper rail and relocate it to the other side of the case. Any reason why they allow this? I really really hoped this would allow me to run the motherboard upside down - hence eleviating any PSU reach issues - however this isn't the case because the bottom rail is not removable.

c. Anyone that runs water cooling in this case, are you satisfied with the radiator placement on the bottom of the case? I expect to mount a MCP655 on the side of the PSU as well as some other components in the bottom compartment sandwiched between a radiator on each side. I've seen people use right-angle brackets to mount 2x120/3x120 rads down there... anyone know where I could source these?

a. A lot of people use the 680i boards in the TJ07 fine.
b. I believe you can, I've seen it several times
c. I don't have an answer for that.

just extend the 8pin's wires. if you are any good at soldering you shouldnt have a problem doing it. i did mine

There was a dude who had the most wicked ass water cooling in his Tj07 case. It was soo awesome with the lighting and everything. I know someone here knows who I am talking about. He had dual pumps in his drive bays, 2 radiators, and this gigantic quad core dual gpu set-up.

I belive that was Masaville, I dont think his pics are still being hosted on the thread he made.

Matt C - I definitely do not want to have to solder my cables longer. I've done enough research to know that extenders add too much variance to a PSU line for my liking - I can only imagine what the shoddy soldering job I would do would add! Call me paranoid...

I would love to see dual/triple loop setups like the one you described Shift. I'm always looking for ideas the adopt and evolve - so let me know if you find those pics!

Right now, my project is trying to figure out how to reverse my motherboard. From the looks of it, the tray does not fit correctly upside down so I'm VERY interested in how someone else may of managed this.

masaville removed the pics from his amazing loop, but there lots and lots of other users with this case here on XS, with tons of pictures to go with it.. try a quick search and you will find a lot of great worklogs (ladderman's, rockfordfosgate's, etc just to name a couple)

I guess I'll have to paint the inside now that it'll be in parts anyhow! Hmm, simple black or crazy color scheme? :)


At the moment, i plan the following:

Loop 1: PA120.2->MCP655->D-Tek FuZion->EK South Chipset->EK North Chipset

Loop 2: PA120.3->MCP355 w/ Top->EK 8800GTX->EK 8800GTX->

Still considering either adding the following into loop 2 or making a 3rd loop:

Loop 3:OCZ Flex 2x1GB Watercooled->2x80GB Raptor, cooled by DangerDen HDD block

1) black (well...define "crazy" color scheme :p:)

2) personally I would be very impressed if you managed to make it all internal, but I wouldn't dream of trying it myself. way too crowded for my tastes with that 3rd loop for too little benefit...then again "overkill" is not a word that people are familiar with around these parts :)

It looks that if i could just replaces those two water block screws with flat topped equivalents, my PCI card will fit. Would they be any potential risks to replacing those screws?

You might have to countersink holes too. I wouldn't worry about it afterwards though. :shrug:

And replacing the "problem making" screws with sinked screws would not cause no risk at all. :up:

Hey i'm currently in the process of watercooling my TJ07, now all i've been seeing is people with their rads mounted on its side in the bottom section of the case with some "L" Brackets(they can be found at your local Home Depot). Now i wanted to be different from everyone else by mounting a triple rad at the top of the TJ07, so far what i've covered with the rad installation i'm very pleased, sry to say my camera was stolen the day before i did the install. A brief description as to what i did, of course i cut the top of the case(pretty much extending the already existing hole) to fit the swiftech MCR-320, then using a RADGRILL i attached 3 Yate Loon fans to the grill in their regular position and where the grill is supposed to be screwed down to the case i used 4 1/2 inch riser rings to raise the entire thing(Radgrill-Fans-Radiator) away from the motherboard, so there is now enough clearance between the rad and the motherboard. And from the top you can only see the fans with the RADGRILL on top. I just took a few pics with my cell phone so plz excuse the terrible quality..

That is a very nice, simple idea. Nice work. Do you have a log anywhere?

You might find my current build in progress interesting. I'll post the whole thing over here once assembly is complete.

thats a very nice build u got going there, seems like you have alot of time to spend behind it. i wish i had the time to do more to my case:( , anyway keep it up and congrats on your progress, everything looks great so far. But i do have 1 question, why the 3 separate Rads.. :confused:

I don't have a proper log, due to me not having a camera at the moment, but when i do reacquire one i'll start something up, i still have a few things to do to the case interms of modding, e.g i'll have to cut a few spots on the mobo tray to assist with cable management, and one other thing is with the rear exhaust fans(92mm fans), i was forced to remove the upper fan due to my radiator extending all the way to the back of the case. i Plan on taking a piece of modders mesh and kinda of covering up the space of the 2-92mm fans and then try to mount 2-80mm fans there instead which might give me the clearance at the top for the rad.
