1.5 HP single-stage = -62*C @ 225W

Hi

It's mine next STRONG Single-stage ..next after that one : http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=144781, almost same specs, compressor is exact same model, this time I have finally got -62*C@225W, so 4*C improvement :D .

Specs :

Compressor: HITACHI CHV33YC6-U - it's "tiny" 18000 BTU/ 1.5 HP rotary ;)
evap: steeper 40mm tall/40 mm diammeter
XV: captube 0.8 mm
condenser: 3 row, cooled by one 200mm/230V 5W fan
Refrigerant : R507+R410a blend
Case : Zincked plate 50 x 40 cm baseplate
Others : SLHX - 15mm with 1/4' inside, around 50 cm long

Finally I must change 4x 120mm Delta fans for one 200mm/230v fan with big shroud, becasue that power supply for fans wasn't working OK and damaged Deltas :( . Also power switch wasn't working OK, so finally owner has lovely, green button :p: .

Insulation on all pipes is 18mm thick :D .

And finally -62*C@225W :yepp: . I haven't checked unloaded, but I think it's lower than -70*C :) .

Sure I can use 28000 BTU/2.5 HP :D . I think it's the biggest 230V rotary. With it I hope for lower than -65*C@225W ;) .

Dry Ice temps in a single stage! Very nicely done Piotre!

That's overkill pete :/. You can reach these temp with autocascade using half-sized compressor. You'll kill this baby using it this way. But anyway, that's to see such results :D

Although I rekon using a single-stage like this might work out more expensive than just buying some dry-ice and a pot. Not 100% sure on this but you can bet anything that electricity in the UK is a rip-off! I don't pay the house bills but I have some 2hp compressors that we rekon will cost about £2/hour to run each :eek: .

Getting Dry Ice locally (Glasgow) is a no-go, so i`m paying £52 delivered for 10Kg. If I had a unit like that and used it only for benching, i`d probably save money in the long term.

I've still to try actually using my BOC account though, so it might be cheaper there.

Plus...cant compete- a phase unit is a lot easier to work with than Dice... I bench alone, so things like getting a sandwich or going to the toilet stop being simple tasks!! :p:

In USA we have a 1.25 hp max as far as I've seen otherwise the power consumptions too high (damn 110vac)

You can find more than 10hp in france (230v AC - 1ph). These power are ridiculous compared to those used in industrial refrigeration (I've calculated a cold room that needed more than 400kW under -25° :D )

LBP Scroll is the best for our use, with a COP still over 1 even under -45° and up to 3kw (from 600w to 3kw as I remember, 230v AC). The main problem is that we can't find them as easily as rotaries :/

10hp.. = 7,6kw.. not possible to run on swedish 1ph, limit is 16a (~3,7kw)..

As soon as you said you paid £52 for 10Kg BOC sprung to mind :D. BOC are great don't get me wrong.... but with them it's either the best, or nothing at all. You can't beat the quality of their products... only the prices :D.

@Fhqwhgads6680 : I only recomend to use R410a in R407C or R404a/R507 type compressor (even in blend). Even "one hose" of R410a make discharge pressure more than 1.0 bara higher in load :shrug: .

Holy cow.. imagine using that beast for an autocascade. I'm sure it would also love life a bit more, can't imagine it receiving enough mass-flow to keep it happy. How loud is it and what pressures are you running on it?

i have a machine with similar spec .>> rotary of that sort of size with R290 and 0hg but the temps are waaaaaaaaaay higher than that........

how the hell is it possible to have another 15-20C loaded drop with that sort of heatload............from what kayl was talking about i didn't think that was possible unless you are running 20hg low side

Depends what you mean by to high, 230v wont get your power usage any lower, just amperage. I've seen 1.5HP 115v motors, and even heard of some 2HP ones. If you really want to push it, you *could* fit upto 2.5-2.8HP on a 20 AMP 115 circuit, and around 1.5-1.8 on 15 Amps.

R290 or propan gas? The propan we can find here in France is way from being pure and it isn't able to carry any load at good temperatures...

@Fhqwhgads6680 : Never use pure R410a in System like ours, runing like you guys do with you rotaries is overkill but Runing with R410a and these pressures would be suicide...
