wow thats a shiny base! what grits did you use?
And how did you hold down the sand paper? Did you wet it? Lol sorry for the q's i really botched up my lapping job with scythe infinity last month
I used 400-1000 then 2000 wet sanded it.
Now i just got to decide either to use MX-1 or as5 , hmmm
OMG that's one of the most beautiful lap jobs I've ever seen!! Puts mine to shame!! Autozone here I come! :P
id use some shin etsu on that
I'd like to see some results! :) Before and after...
I think the ultra x has a good base already, I decided not to lap mine after I bought the supplies to do it.
Sorry i meant to put that i used soap.
Well i tried as5, I dont have Shin Estu X23-7783D or Coolabs's Liquid Metal Pro
Is it normal that both cores reading different temps?
Intel TAT says 25/20
and with speed fan which one do you go by? Core 0,1 or temp 1,2?
I didn't put it on stock, i knew it was going to be a pain in the arse to mount and stuff, plug stuff back up and all.
Yeah the base was ok, it was concave some, I thought i would go ahead and do it just in case i decided to down the road.
I didnt think of that title fixed :toast:
If it were me, I would be using Liquid Metal pro
-------------------
Yep its normal for the cores to be reading different temps, many variables as to why this happens.
And individual core temps are going to be more reliable than overall "core" reading.
PS: Nice shine job on that TR U120X
That's really nice! What's your ambient temp? In case? No case? Open case? :)
Sorry if i'm a bit ot but which case are you using. Is that the temp inside the case when it's closed?
Not OT at all :)
Case I am using is termaltake xaserIII v1000, upgraded 80mm to 120mm with yate loons.2 on the HS, 2 intake,2 exhaust 120mm, one 80 mm blow hole that i havnt upgraded.
Case close, the ambient temp is just my room temp correct? casue i dont have a sensor in my case for temps?
Its messy right now cause i am going to break it down again lol

Those 4x120s must give you a really good airflow... :)
VERY nice lapping job you have done. Did you happen to take a similar picture of the heat sink bottom before lapping?
Oh yeah i am quiet happy with them. Very quiet and perform awesome.Quote:

Thanks no i didnt, it looked identical to this though base
my camera would have gotten that good of a shot anyways ,lol
Have you lapped your cpu's IHS yet? It will go perfectly with this cooler's base
First off, nice job on the HS. A little overkill, but it looks really nice. I did my u-120 x also.
I agree with IKIKUINTHENUTZ; you'll definitely want to lap the IHS next. I knocked 7-10 °C off my load temps by doing it.
Be sure you document your load temps now and afterwards.
I recommend MX-1 or Shin-Etsu. LMP is better but you stand the chance of semi-welding the cpu to the sink.
yeah ill prob do the IHS next, wasnt to sure if i was going to stick with the chip so i was waiting on that.
Over kill nawwww, lol Im just anal about stuff that all. But didnt take me 4 hours though  and 7 dollars of sand paper  Wally word FTW heh
Yeah i probally going to go with one of those since petras carries them both.Quote:
