I've bought me today an AMD64 X2 3800+ EE. Now i'm wondering about the stepping, because he has a stepping with 3 letters and not with 4 letters.
Does anyone know the difference between the cpus with the "3 lettes-stepping" and the cpus with the "4 lettes-stepping"?

hmm, i don't think so, because all the other guys named the lettes in mentionend in my first post as their stepping.
and from my old sandiego 3700+ i used the same lettes as the stepping.
AFAIK, I noticed 3 characters at the back are CPUs assembled in China, while 4 characters are from Malaysia.
I could be wrong though...
BTW, how does yours OC? I just got an EE...and it sux.. :(
Yes, mine is from China. I don't test OC yet, because my ram doesn't arrive. i think tommorow i could test him a bit.
What steppings has your EE? What temps pu have ot with the Thermaltake BigTyphoon? Because i can't use my scythe ninja, because he blocks the ramslot.

the first 4 numbers is your year and week that the chip was made year 2006 and week 46

I stil think and will call the leters after the week for stepping and they is very importen to...but the leters before is more importen than the ones after the week
you can call it anything you want, but it would be most technically correct to call those 3 or 4 letters on the end the "batch code" :toast:

then in the 3rd line, those last 4 numbers tell you which number the cpu is within it's specific batch :D

and i guess i've just seen too many chips in the 200 range that clock surprisingly well to really be in support of the lower batch number = better oc'er.. ;)
your chips don't count cause you have special resources :D
Actually, if you're talking about dual cores in the 200 range, then you'd be correct as IIRC, the number of dual core cpu's able to be cut from a single wafer tops out ~200....so the early 200's would be somewhat comparable to the lower numbered cpus......;)Quote:

Because the letters an numbers says the most over the oc-behavior. So the 0614 BPMW is better then the 0524 XPAW. On the first places in the overclockinglist are for example the BPMW...
But these are the last letters.... and i called these 4 numbers and 4 letters till this day STEPPING....
