These results will only be of interest to anyone with a LGA775 board that tops out at the 300MHz-FSB mark. The e4300 chip running at 2.7GHz is officially faster than a full blown 'stock' e6600 . . . Next stop 3000MHz, stand clear doors closing! :D

Note: Just for anyone thats interested I have been using an ASUS P5B-Deluxe Wifi/AP with 2GB Crucial 10th Anniversary and a ANTEC TRIO 550 PSU.

3GHz at Stock vCore thats not bad, machine is nippy as anything! However from here on in gets a bit more tricky . . . Next stop hopefully 3.3GHz, but its gonna need more volts!

Note: vCore that I have been quoting is what I am setting in BIOS.

1.325vCore - Machine wouldn't POST. ASUS feature saves the day, power off, flick power switch at the back to off, wait a second to the mobo light goes off . . . flick power switch back on, power up machine and straight into BIOS, like it! :cool:

1.35vCore - Computer POSTs but wont load Windows XP.

1.375vCore - Loads Windows but fails Orthos Small FFTs in 5 mins!

1.40vCore - Fails Orthos Small FFTs after 23mins 48 secs :slapass:

Ah my bane is here to slay me, it seems the Dread Core 1 has got it in for me. I have read about this situation before where one of the cores is weaker than another, still I'm not done just yet ;)

Looking forward to seeing everyones results, especially those people with sophisticated cooling systems. I noticed my load temps dropped very slightly and I'm not sure if its because I was running the blend test, or perhaps the arctic silver 5 I slapped on the e4300 is settling in a bit?

e4300 @ 3.6GHz (1.5-1.6vCore) - Core [0] Only Load TAT

I have never seen a temp gauge fly up so quickly, goes from 30°C to 70°C in about 1/2 a second!

Also the temp monitoring software isn't working properly with the e4300 (MBM, Core Temp Beta 0.94) but TAT still seems ok (they all worked fine with the e6300 and all gave the same result). Based on my recent experience with a e6300 it may be that this new chip runs a bit hotter?, can't be sure though because I used some Arctic Silver 5 (thin spread) for the first time, also the fact that the monitoring software isn't working properly makes me wonder if these chips have different sensors to the regular 6xxx series?

nice to see it will do 3.6GHz, but did you really need to show 30 different pictures?

the guy did nice giving us more detail, i liked it, the processor can be overclocked 100%, so far i only managed to get my e6600 to 3.6 stable, the bad axe is a good mobo, but asus is better, damn i should have gotten it....crap

Nice, i actually planned to get me one of these but the shop didn't have one so i took an E6600 over it, glad i did.

As far as bang for buck goes this CPU will be very hard to beat.

Do you think there's more than 3.3GHz orthos stable in it?

Hey Wayne I was wondering if that ultra 120 is clip mounted? If so does anyone know of any good heatsinks for 775s that use screws instead of the clips?

Good results there Wayne, I have an identical stepping e4300 (from Scan) but it acts really wierd; temps are all over the place, both cores show different temps and all monitoring software is at odds with each other.

A question:- Your temps are way low, what was the ambient temp?

Yup very friendly chip and should be fun for someone who is new to O/C. Come March/April the price on this should make it high in the list for 'bang for buck' cpus

No, I only built my CD2 system 3 weeks ago using an e6300 but I still didn't work out thats chip maximum clock yet as I was concentrating on working out the other components limits (FSB, Mem etc) I will stick the e6300 back in in a few days and see how they compare.

Yes I think so, maybe not much in my chip but I will be slowly pushing it up to find the 'cut-off' point, I think 3.4GHz should be ok but don't really wanna raise vCore much more as the temps go mental. It needed somewhere between 1.5-16vCore to bench at 3.6GHz but dual-prime/Orthos would bomb in seconds!

Yes the Ultra-120 comes with its own backplate and spring loaded screws, its very easy to install. You just need a long phillips screwdriver and its a walk in the park. The Tuniq looks good also but just a little bit to big for me. Btw the Thermalright Ultra-90 and HR-01-775 all come with the black peg mounting system but you can buy the 'proper' mounting kit for those also (its the same thing that comes as standard with the Ultra-120)

My chip was from Scan also! :)

Only INTEL TAT and the BIOS seem to get the right readings for the CPU temps, all my other apps that worked fine with a e6300 just don't work with the e4300, strange?

The temps I published are accurate, I'm using decent air-cooling kit and as luck would have it Tuesday night was freezing, in fact it started snowing!. I wrapped up warm in about four jackets, opened the balcony door and let the freezing air take over my home, all in the name of overclocking, my poor cat wondered what the **** was going on and hid under the duvet on the couch :D

Yes I stayed up all night and freezed my backside off, obviously as I worked through the night the temps were dropping so thats how come my idles are lower (even at higher overclocks), it just got colder and colder . . .

If you look closely at the screens I published, in the system tray (bottom right) you can see my GPU temps from ATT (ATI-TrayTools) and also the time the screens were taken.

my ambient temp ATM at 1am is 25C LOL but i can still prime at 3.8Ghz with the E6600 :p: 1.47v heheh on air of course

i reckon 4GHz easy prime with those ambients :banana: i'm jealous :D

I'm using 3.48GHz for 24/7 use at 1.49v, Orthos Small FFT priority 9 for over 12 hours stable. My benches at 3.6GHz+ are in my hwbot link if you are interested

Seems like both chips are practically identical though mines a week 40

Ambient temps were mid 30's (thats Celsius :eek: ) so you can imagine what happened when loaded pumping 1.60Vcore into the poor little chip :explode2: :shock2: :D

I too had varying readings that initially were all over the place and when I pointed this out i was told by a number of ppl that I have NFI :rolleyes: .....................yer right :p: :slap: :D

We need more people posting with various results from E4300/E4400's. I was going to hold off for one of these and said forget it and got my 6400. Crazy that this cpu I have is 100% stable with 1.26V at load @ 3.3ghz. Coming from an X2 4400+ that took 1.6V for 2750mhz.
