New Gskill Pc4800 La @ddr660 1t

GSKILL is doing great business lately with hard-core memory solutions. First the PC4400 1GB/512MB modules based on the famous Samsung TCCD chips and now the PC4800 series.

The PC4800 is build with the new revision Samsung TCCD 440 cycle chips. These chips yield better speeds to achieve the PC4800 (DDR600) in Dual and single channel mode.
Soon the 1GB PC4800 modules will also be released by GSKILL.

The "possible" improvements:

- More flexibility with higher voltages. (range 2.5 ~ 3.0v)
- Better yields, lower voltage at rated speeds, means higher overclock capability
- Works better with CAS2.0

Test system

- Athlon 64 3400+ Newcastle (week 34)
- DFI Lanparty UT 250GB rev1.0
- 2x 256MB Gskill PC4800 LA

Unfortunatly I still do not own a Dual channel S939 platform. At the beginning of next year the MSI Nforce4 board will arrive at my doorstep, so I have to it with the DFI for now.
Like most of the people already know, testing TWO dimms on DFI with S754 memcontroller is a shot in the neck.
I could not get 2 dimms working, even at default rating speeds/settings. I don't know why, cause I got it work on my 2x 512MB GSKILL modules.

Anyway, one dimm is the only way to test these modules.

The Benchmarks

First I tested both modules seperatly to look what those babies can do.

Module 1 (marked with a one):

DDR600 2.5-3-3-6 1T 2.6V (module 1)

Piece of cake for this ram, who needs 2.5-4-4-8 :*)

DDR640 2.5-3-3-6 1T 2.9v (module 1)

No sweat, now you see the improvements of Samsung 440, it's reacting well with higher voltages.

DDR660 2.5-3-3-6 1T 3.0v (module 1)

Again, 3.0v works on the TCCD!

This is even stable in memtest86++ _/-\o_

DDR640 2.5-3-3-6 1T 3.0v (module 2)

The other module (2) performed a little bit lower than module 1, logic it would be very lucky to get two modules perform the same.

Unfortunatly this module does not respond well with 2.5-3-3-6 1T @DDR640. At DDR600 ~ 620 it barely run well with these timings.

With 2.5-4-3-6 1T 2.9v it run fine, Trcd 4 instead of 3 is about 20~25MHz loss.

Conclusion

This ram is definitly tha bomb! :7 Can do very high speeds, even higher when losing some timings.
It can also run on 2-2-2-5 timings with lower speeds (200-240MHz*)

*Upcoming test.

Pros

- Very very cheap, around $130-150
- Contains new revision Samsung TCCD
- Clocks like hell

Cons

- Still does not work well with two dimms on S754 platform.

the euro stores in norway i think, and germany maybe the other one, have it listed for 2-3rd weeks of jan for stocks. 256 sticks though, i think, my euro language skills apart from english aren't the greatest.

And why isn't it interesting? 2x256 is still the best solution with benchmarking, you should know.

Testing one module give a idea how your ram performs. And this the 512LA kit.

For take WR or only benches 2x256 are sure better!

But for the games today you need 2x512 ...

I agree.. I need 2x512MB.... even at 330 MHz dual channel... it will still struggle in Far Cry.

Not supprising why they clocked so high, its 256mb single channel and he got reeeeeeeeeal lucky with one stick and his ondie controller. Id like to see two 512mb sticks run over 275fsb T1 in s939. ondie controllers almost always limit ya before the ram too. This is good stuff still, maybe with a venice or fx55/57 we could see 275 to 300fsb dual channel T1 command at 2.5-3-3-7

Every other post you do Geforce4ti4200 you complain about the A64 memory controllers, perhaps you should get a Dothan? :stick: :D ;)

Nice eye candy, but im not that impressed really.

BH-5 is still king for me. Top 4 on 01 orb use Mushy 3500 BH-5... Just the stuff Ive got. Not as good as 260+ 2-2-2-5 but it can still do the bussiness.

BH-5 for me till I get my hands on some OCZ VX and try that for my self ;)

okkkkk.. So i guess, the information provided by G.Skill's site & oc-wear.de of current LA series ram modules is invalid. They are actually PC4800 @ 2.5-4-4-8.

It doesn't look that good at all.
I probably have a crappy mem controller, cpu clocks good though.

Did some early testing with my 2 sticks, using the Neo2 with modded 1.41 bios.
When setting everything at AUTO in the bios, OCZ Memtest detects them as 2.5-4-4-8, just like the package says.

Of course, I tried to run them as fast as possible, hoping I'd be able to run them at 275Mhz, 2.5-3-3-7 at least, maybe a little more.

The max I could run them at 2.5-3-3-7 was 262Mhz, whithout getting any errors. Everything above that gave me errors at the end of test #5.

275Mhz seemed OK, but only with timings at AUTO e.g. 2.5-4-4-8.
300Mhz looked ok too, BUT only with 2T setting. 1T would instantly give me thousands of errors. :D

I'll try to do some more testing tomorrow, as it is to early to call them bad.
I'll also give them a try on the DFI Ut250Gb.

Yeah - I'm curious, too. Maybe Onepagebook can answer this. Are the RAM chips on the LA's the the same as on the LE's like mine below? I know some have TCCD 440. I'm lost. they seem to be the new ones, since the package is labeled PC4800 @ 2.5-4-4-8 (2T). The informatation provided on the oc-wear.de's & g.skill's site, however, is a bit outdated (LA PC4800 @ 3-4-4-8). We can see different specifications directly at Jupiler's package. Then again, Jupiler received the LA series with Samsung 437 chips, when karakoto has Samsung 440. So oc-wear is actually selling the new LAs with older 437 chips. :D

I think at that moment, the LA 1g was stated as DDR600 "2t"..(talked to Jupiler already)..1t is still, honestly, very hard to do on nf3 though.

Indeed it is, and specialy with 2*512 sticks.
But they do run at 300Mhz, 2.5-4-4-8, but only with 2T (as rated).


I did some more testing today.
Took the sticks out, made sure they were seated firmly, and put a 80mm fan over them.
Got some slightly better results.
270Mhz, 2.5-3-3-7, 1T looked OK. No errors in test #5.
275Mhz, 2.5-3-3-7, 1T gave me 2 errors after 20 loops of #5.
Tried every voltage available, but saw no improvement.

Slots 3+4 were a no go. Got me instant errors at 270Mhz.

Still think that the mem controller is crap. To bad. I had high expectations.
CPU is pretty good, does 2700Mhz at 1.56-1.57V.
But I guess you can't have it all. :)

I was gonna get some GSKill particularly for 1T. Otherwise gigs of BH5 work fine. But I guess 1T is only really hard at super high fsb's? I'd like 260ish - 1T... so I was thinking of the LE's (also because I want them now). Maybe rather than spam the mem section today I'll write OPB.

260 @ 1T is not an issue for G.Skill (LE/LA).

Are the LE's rated at PC 4400 @ 1T or 2T?

LE's are rated @ PC4400/ 275 FSB @ 1T 2.5-3-3-7

There is quite a trade off to be had there between the higher FSB and timings. I wonder which would actually be better. What will both max out at, I can't really see that many chips being able to do much over what the LE's have to offer anyway really (apart from the FX's).

Mind you, i like the possibility that they may yeild better results with higher voltages, especially with the DFI coming out!

As I can honestly tell, Oskar mainly test LP NF4 on old non-rated Gskill 0425 TCCD 512x2 and 256x2 ram :D
That really surprised me a lot when he can got it up to more than DDR700 w/ all 3d marks complete.(256x2) :)

I forgot the name from our forum, a gentleman he pm me regarding his 1g LE got problem(purchased from excaliber), after I read his PM, I think , it definitely should be mobo's prob. I think it's av8(abit), so I got his rma. According to his situation, he told me like he could not get the ram running at 260(I forgot) "3-4-4-8".. and that ram IC dated 437.
you know what? from that moment until now, I always use that pair of ram, this pair of 1g dual LE on NF4 get me like DDR625 2.5-3-3-7 definitely 1t CMD not loaded from NF4 CG, it was done by bios setting. I can say, in this world, nobody can do this:D:

i disagree, the only thing i benifit by from having 2x512 is smoother windows peroformance, i dont gain or lose fps from only having 512, so unless im missing something or playing the wrong games...

play some ram based games like world of warcraft, where there is a HUGE difference between 512 and 1024

Oskar test his NF4 by using the 0425 Gskill TCCD, that 's not even rated at 3-4-4-8 DDR600 ;) and he can do more than DDR700.. :slobber:

Thats true!

You dont have more fps with 2x512 then 2x256 but loading games and performance in games and closing games you will see the differentiated!

will you have 2x512 you never want back to 2x256 ;)

you do gain a few fps aswell, not like a huge increase but you do gain some

its much smoother...

thats funny i went from 1gb to 512...

but i guess the 30 mhz fsb i gained not to mention being able to run CPC On more then made up for it.

sure if theres 2x512 that will clock just as good im all over it, but i dont really have a problem with 2x256 as long as im clocking higher... but then again i dont play Wow, which might want more ram, who knows, i still have this bh-5 in my IC7 waiting for Vmod, didnt do so well on my AMD though.

Hahaha - I'd have 2 Gigs of that G.Skill LE RAM if I could afford - it hella matters to me.

IMHO - MORE RAM ALWAYS = BETTER!!

I do have the same modules and there´ doing aprox the same (btw. mine´s pc4400) I had high expectations too :( I cant even get windows stable with 270 1gb 2.5-3-3-7.

Unreal Tournament 2004 loads up and has to page file if you have 512K. Talk about slow loads. You'll be killed twice when you spawn into online games before you are able to defend yourself. :bananal:

1024 totally changed my UT 2004 game experience.

play with 512mb then play with 1 gig, you will see the difference :)

Can you end up getting another pack of the 512 LA's to use up all 4 of the available slots and still get the same o/c results or do you just need to wait for 2-512 sticks of this stuff to have a gig?

running 4 slots doesnt overclock well with any memory...the memory controller usually doesnt like it, though it sounds like this may change soon...

Will I am sure keeping an eye on this thread! I have tried bh5 and am now using corsair 4000pro hinx but can do t1 at all. I hope to see the 4800 gskill 1 gig set come out soon.

No not on the market, but PC4400 LE and PC4800 LA can do that with little OC. :)

ive been told that no 2x512 ram has ever hit ddr600 at anything other than 3-4-4-8 timings(it did to t1) I was planning on waiting for ram to improve where 2.5-3-3-7 at 300MHz, ddr600 becomes a reality. I wont make any predictions when cause I dont know, but is it even within the relm of possibility within 6 months? A Venice at 300x10 or at least 300x9 with ddr600 2.5-3-3-7 t1 would make my day. I could do 273x11 for 3GHz but the loss of ram bandwith would cost me over 100MHz cpu power

who told you that TCCD can't hit 300mhz @ cas2.5 ?

my friend but hes talking about 512mb sticks, not 256mb but I need 2x512 for gaming

Corsair PC3200XL @ 300mhz 2.5,4,8,4 2T on NF3.

I have seen many threads about ppl with TCCD hitting 300mhz with tighter timings too.
Maybe search the forum a little more, then go :slapass: your friend

not bad, many have 290, two have 300! One did have to run ras-cas4 so his doesnt count. I noticed all may have fx55s but one with a 3000+ winny at 290x9 1:1 which is :slobber: How stable are their achievements? suicide screenshot? I think I can get 280 1:1 for that. 3dmark capable? then it drops to 266, but I run 262, alot more stable for my 3dmarking. 24/7 and 100% stable? try 250 for me :(

ive just bought some OCZ EL Plats rev2.0 2x512mb PC3200 and that has done DDR610 on an FX-53, i dont have a screeny of it, but it was running 2.5-3-3-8 i think, i could be wrong. it was at 1T as well. maybe i just got lucky.
