I also noticed what others reviews already said , that in some games with this drivers when MSAA is ON we lost a lot of FPS , but like i said its just in a few games and we hope that in the next drivers this issue its solved

he he thanks Mascaras, i have the card since 3 days now.. and i was not knowing we have DOD for free..lol... ( but you forget to mention we have too a full version of 3D06....

If you have BF2142.. give to it a try.. you will be really surprise by how it look.. the quality is really better with the 2900XT compared to X1K.

do you have oblivion? i'd love to see how it performs at 1680x1050 with a bunch of texture mods turned on and AA.

i can run oblivion max details 1600x1200 8xAA 16xAF stock clocks w/ opty@3.1g no problem. whenever I turn on Adaptive AA, things go bad (4 fps). Either a bug or something else.

One little off-topic question for you...

You accomplished these tests with your OCZ GameXStream 600w psu?
The OCZ has (2) 6-pin PCIe connectors, how did you go about connecting it to the HD2900's 8-pin connector? My Antec True Power Trio 650 also only has (2) 6-pin PCIe connectors.

Performance is definitely looking up however why is Serious Sam 2 and Lost Planet still lagging so far behind? I suppose these are still yet to be resolved in a future update hopefully?

It seems to be that the performance of the HD2900XT is between that of the GTS640 and the GTX.

We have heard rumors of this driver all week as having majorly degraded IQ in order to allow the performance increases were are noticing. I hope the IQ was put back up to top notch while still maintaining this great new level of performance.

you dont nedd 8 pin to overclock , you can overclock with AMDTOOL , without 8 pin the only thning tha hapens is that dont show overdrive

You plugged the psu's PCIe6 into the HD2900's PCIe8 socket?

I've seen in other forums where they have done this but it may limit the card's ability to oc. You're tests looks like you had no such issue. :toast: I went ahead and ordered an Enermax Infiniti 720W from Petra's. I guess I could have used my Antec after all. Oh well, I'll give my Antec to my sis, her current psu is very loud.

help pls, i cannot start CCC. every time i do i get a "MOM.implementation" error. Ive tried all the 2900 XT drivers out there and happens every time.

1) install Netframework 2.0
2) uninstall CCC
3) uninstall catalyst driver

not true...I am using an Ocz powerstream 520w on HD 2900 XT alone...
Using 6 pin connector good upto 950/1050 clocks.....
8 pin just enables OD in CCC.....suppose to give more of an stable oc
but i have not noticed any difference betwen 6 or 8 pin
oc ability on the cards.
Been using 1.35 vgpu/load on this 520w powerstream...running solid till now...

But i hope it's true... the 8.3742 (4096) and 8.3742 (4732) look like be really unstable driver.. have you got problem for displaying some pages on internet correctly ?( black box and lines on the pages and corrupted text sometimes when you scroll down the pages?)...



Edit one thing... with all maxed in games and 16x / 4xAA for fear i got 85FPS in average... not only 60FPS (1280x960).. so i m a little bit worry about theses score.. (E6700@3.1ghz) It can depend of this... but it look me strange

Is there anything special I have to do in order for AMG GPU Clock Tool enable the temp monitor? It's grayed out. Also, the latest beta of ATiTool shows core and mem values of ZERO and finaly, how do I enable RivaTuner to recognize the video card?

click sensor and then select "enable reading" checkbox for each sensor.

i just noticed something, while my load temps @ 3d clocks are ok @ 79'C, my idle temps @ 2d clocks are 64'C. :eek: Is the fan on the 2900 supposed to be completely silent in 2d mode? Also, in 2d mode the fans spins EXTREMELY slow, my guess is thats the problem. I wish ATI tool would come out already.

i have try the 3 drivers we can find now... anyway i know 3 guys having the card and got same problem with XP pro.. whe have all Saphhire and HIS, but the problem don't appears under Vista.. There's only some pages do this, some forum and my mailbox..no problem on XS ^site and forum for example...
I use a DVI Lcd ( Samsung 930BF 4ms), will try if it's a question of resolution only, refresh or only if i use the VGA port on it it will work..

my friend also got one today , here is 3dmark 2001 @ X2900XT default @ 8.36.4.3 driver ( NO LOD TWEAK @ there is no software to X2900XT LOD tweak yet )

Hi, is 825/1000 your max overclock? Just trying to get an average of how the retail cards overclock. So far the best ones have been 850+ on air. Lowest in the 820's with average of early 840's.

They should do all around 850mhz air stock cooler (without additional fans)... anyway i have see the Hynix DDR3 used on the 2900XT is rated for work at 1000mhz (2000mhz).. this explain why they go to this speed without problem.

Nicepun, you can OC them higher without problem.. so don't be affraid.... go Dude.. give us some nice number..

Ouch, those fear scores on the 2900 are crap to say the least. The GTS is running all over the 2900 in this game. Sucks too as that is the main game I play and that game alone is going to determine which card I get based on the performance the card can deliver for this game. So far the 2900 is not looking good.

It's fake...the 8800GTX has a larger lead than that over the 8800GTS. Definitely fake.

Especially seeing as it's well known the 8800GTX pulls 79+ in fear at 4xAA 16xAF at 1600x1200. Until a trusted site lists numbers, you may as well consider it fake for the time being.

Well, although we expected to drivers to be mature it is my belief that there's alot of work to be done. Although I don't expect for the performance to improve...hmmm let say 50% I do think some improvements will be made. And for the record, at least for me, I find the IQ better with ATi. Later on today I'll raise the OC on the processor and video card.

Swiftech MCW60 fits perfectly.:up: I also have MCW50 which i will be using with my second r600 in crossfire. The card maxed out at 860 with stock cooling.

Have you compared an 8800 to the 2900 and found that the ATI has better IQ or are you just generally speaking? I have always loved ATI's IQ as well but screenshots and reviews are touting the 8800 as being pretty damn good and I must admit it appears so. If you have used an 8800 and an 2900 and still found one better than the other please sure and why. If you are just generally speaking then please do admit that too. I am not trying to pick a fight, just curious is all.

Please do let us know how the card fares in FEAR once overclocked some more. I look forward to your results.

It sounds to me like this round it's to the point that Image Quality is subjective, unlike last round when there was no denying the R5xx had better IQ than the 7 series.

Some are saying they like the HD 2900XT's IQ, others the 8800's IQ. That goes even for reviewers. I know I was shocked to see even beyond 3d state they preferred nvidia's image quality from the 8 series over ATi's.

So, apparently it might actually be pretty close this round, unless of course you turn on ATi's new AA methods that cause blurring, then it's all nvidia.

New drivers released yesterday 8.38 RC7, Vista

Hi there, i´m a proud owner of one of these grafic cards....
going to sound like a noob, but i havn´t had a ATI card since the 9700pro.
So my question is, how do i unlock the overdrive option? i´ve read the manual and it says it should be displayed on the catalyst interfacer tree but in my case it doesn´t.

can anyone help me on this?

ps, is it normal for the cooler to speed up to full rpm´s for a minute then down to inaudible level in windows desktop?

you need an 8 pin power plug 6 pin won't let you use overdrive. amd gpu tool will though. mine doesn't spin up full speed unless i am doing serious benching.
