You are far from right my friend. To a human perceive a sound as "doubled" it needs between 10 to 15 dbs more. 3db is the point at you apply the double of the potency in a driver (not the case here) and this is not considering the diminishing return of being already loud (eg 480 vs 6990 sound). And not considering either the specific sound of the air passing through the dissipator that may (or may not) have an annoying sound.

I'll do the same thing if mine goes. They shouldnt have put something on the card that allows the user overclock if they dont want to back up their own work.
If I modified the BIOS with RBE or whatever and borked it on my own, then sure, thats fraud.

I thought sound was logarithmic. It might work differently, but 10db should definitely be noticeable.

It's not a warranty void sticker anyway, just a warning from what I've seen. But OC will void warranty, and thats what the switch effectively does. It just comes down to the moral values of the user.

Agreed. If they don't want to honor the warranty if you overclock, then why add the switch. That's just plain dumb.

it spikes up to 6.1amps, but if you average it all out then its probably just 20w over idle if that.

XFX, Sapphire and now Powercolor officially all support the 6990 ''OC switch'' fully. They all updated their warranty pages.

Asus will follow. No other choices for them, or they won't sell any cards.

    Non-issue very soon.

BTW, I was able to move the infamous switch with a harpin without removing the sticker. Sneaky fraud!

So I now officially claim the copyright on the DIY ''6990-hairpin-yellow-sticker-warranty-trick''.

Even if it will be a non-issue soon.

3.3v shy of 2A so lets say 5W
12v pciE shy of 1A so lets say 10W
    12v 1 between 1A and .5A so lets say 5W
    12v 2 at least 2.5A, up to 6A, so lets say 30W to 70W

thats at least 50W and up to 120W

so yeah, i wonder how they got to 110W... sounds like it only spiked to 110W... but even 50-60W for video playback is a lot... blue ray players do this for 10W... and tegra and other chips do this for less than a watt... dont get why gpus arent better at this...

but yeah your right, compared to other vgas out there the 6990 actually does OK when playing back video... i wonder why they rated it 110W when it seems to be more around 60W according to their own meassurements...

6990 with Swifttech waterblock. Directly from Gabe. On OC Bios. Only 1.175v. That card will easily go over 1000 with a waterblock. Who said the 6990 is ''hot''?

Looks like GDDR5 error check killing your score... lower memory clocks and run again.
