hi all, I have bad problems with this board..

i had my first gd-70 on first of september, put on it a x4 955 and 2x2gb ocz 1600 cl7.

i was testing 3,8ghz on cpu with 1,5v more or less on liquid cooling using s&m and suddenly the pc just swicth off itself and never restart..tried any tipe of clear cmos, remmove battery ecc ecc..the mobo just died..
i requested rma and had a second gd-70 a week ago..
no problem with this mobo, i did a lot benching without problems.
this evening i was testing again with s&m and i had the same damn problem..pc turn of itself an now won't turn on..

is anyone having this problem? i think that the problems is s&m...but really a program can kill a mobo? i'm shure that there's a way to wake up my mobo, but i'm still trying to find it..any one can give me a hand?
now i've disconnect everything from the mobo except for the cpu, removed the battery and moved the clear cmos jumper and i will keep this settings for about 7-8 hours..

    every 720 has 4 cores

you can adjust the volts in the bios with the +/- or pgup/pgdn keys..

Have you tried a different PSU?
My Tagan 700w. only lasted about 9 mos. and killed a board on its way out, had 9.8v on the 5v.

I can't post above 2520mhz, no matter what I do, I can't do the "press reset 3 times trick" to atleast get into BIOS. Clear CMOS ftw and I loose all my tweaking -.-

But once booted I have no issue pushing NB above 3000mhz (with the help of HT Ref.) and bench

Have only tried 1.6b3 and 1.7b5 same issue on both, guess i am gonna try 1.5b1 or something instead and see if it changes my problems...
    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...22#post4073622

Ok I've tried quite a few BIOSes and can now confirm that 1.5b7 is the culprit, after this version something happened Posted on msi-forum.de hopefully they know how to fix the problem or can release a BIOS that is working correctly...

No difference. I'll check PSU's voltages, maybe it's an issue.

Did you try a different stick of ram? What PSU do you have?? Do you have a leak?_? (Hope NOT)

Another questions, this time might be quite easy:
    - is my RAM broken,
    - how to set this damn thing in BIOS?

Some background: i'm running gd70 with 720be and OCZ 1333MHz (9-9-9-20) 2x2GB. I already figured it out that I have to set 1.7V in a BIOS, but when I set everything as "AUTO" motherboard tries to run it as 1333 7-7-7-16. Of course I can set it up manually as 1333 9-9-9-20 @ 1.7V but it is not stable. When I run prime95 (small units, no RAM used) it can run for hours, but when RAM is stressed system hangs almost immediately. Changing settings in BIOS is not changing anything. I tried to run both sticks at the same time and single stick with no luck. Lowering speed to 1066MHz gives same result - hard reset necessary.

    PSU - Corsair VX450W.
WC keeps everything cool (CPU @ full load below 35*C with open case)

    EDIT:

Odd thing. I did not changed anything (I think) in a BIOS and now system can handle RAM stress with no problems. One stick only at 1066MHz 7-7-7-16.
Is it normal that BIOS recognises RAM as 1066 7-7-7-16 (manufactures info section) even that it is suppose to be 1333 9-9-9-20?

Thanks for your input, im hearing good things about this board. One more question on MSI site, they claim ddr3 2100 oc with some crucial kit, i see nobody even close to this, what is top speed people are getting on this board with ddr3 ? and what sticks would you recommend ?.

I have read several reviews on this board, and all of them say there are harddrive issues, transfer speeds with the jmicron chip on this board in paticular, with all 790s any body notice this ?.

This is my question about Benchmark with MSI 790 FX-GD70:
What does adjust parameters are important to benchmark when overclocking (with LN), CPU NB-VDD volt, CPU VDD volt or CPU PLL volt?

I've got a gd-70 running Vista business with no problems. I've also got some Hyper X ddr3 2000, its not ideal for AMD platforms, but I popped it in for a test and it runs fine. With the 1:4 ratio your ram will run at ddr3 1600 and not 1800 unless you overclock the core from 200 to 225. They really relaxed the timing requirements on this board and assuming your ram is the epida bbse variety like this i have it will do cas 7 at 1600 on stock 1.65 volts. Grab the memtest86+ iso and pop it in just to test the memory, then move on to diagnosing the board and processor.

Just my $.02. Hope it helps.

Thanks for your input. Yeah its a hardware issue i think, im running 1:4 1600 cas 8. Save the overclocking for when this thing runs stable stock, i will run memtest and see what happens. What is the latest bios for this board ?

Well update i ran memtest, and it passed no problems, something else is causing problems, drivers ? time for return the board, not a good experience with Msi.

So those of you on 1.6+ BIOS are you happy with it? Most 720's unlocking? Is overclockability affected any with 1.6 or 1.7 vs 1.1? I had tried everything up to 1.5 and 1.1 was the most stable for overclocking thus far.

FlawleZ; I am using 1.7 with a 720BE. I am using the same OC settings as previous, but with 1.7 or because of thier own updates (.11 ATI) my 4870's memory has increased the memory to 1100 from 1080. My 720BE is a non-unlockable one. Very stable for me with 1.7 though.

Same here. 1.7 and 720BE runs 3.6GHz at 4 cores with no hassle. 3.9GHz at 3 cores done as well. I didn't checked any other BIOS versions except for 1.0 so can't compare.

Hang on you never looked at the lcd poster on the mobo. I had that problem on a gigabyte board that the bios failed on so i had to fork out $175 and i got the GD70. But you should have taken a look at the lcd debug poster.
