Got Cascade? Post your pics gents
-------------------------
Feb. 5, 2006
[EDIT]
I want to thank everyone who has posted here. Its nice to see a thread stay on topic like this.
All the units posted thus far have been high quality works of art. It takes alot of time to build a solid phase unit. I bow down to the masters, and hope to join their ranks sometime this year. ATM I am way to busy building a website and handling my school load.
[/EDIT]
-------------------------
Hi guys and gals. I am diving into phase change finally, and doing it a big way with a -115C (or better) monster from PC-Ice. I am curious how many members here have cascades, and whether they built them or were built for them by various people.
Chime in and post your pic of your cooling monsters. Doesnt matter if its 2-3-4 stages, or an auto. I dont necessarily care about temps on the evap or hold temps, but those are nice stats to present as well. I am just trying to get a feel for how prevelent these units are compared to the community here.
To give proper credit: please post if you made it or had it made, what gas(es) used, number of compressors, and compressor(s) horsepower.
==========EDIT==========
After clearing it with PC-Ice, here is a more recent build:

Here is mine, three stages :
First : 1.5kW rotary, R402A, Danfoss TEV
Second : SC21G, R1150, CPEV
Third : SC18CL, R1150 (waiting for R14), two CPEVs and two evaps
Holds -100C on both evaps with a 630 @ 5.8Ghz and a v-modded GTX512

Nice unit man. -100C on 2 evaps is a beautiful thing.
Thanks for the input.

@ eshbach --> Is that single stager one from PC-Ice as well? Can you give me the footprint of the cascade as well please sir? Weight and load temp would be great info as well.
@ _HL4E_HalfLife --> Is that cascade that one that got you into the infamous -100C Club?

I've only got a -80c co2 cascade under my kitchen table atm. Been busy with school lately, but I'll get some pics.

Howdy gkiing. Yep, I was taken outta pergatory (spelling?) as it were.
Would love some pics. Dont forget things like evap and load temps, etc.

This is my 2HP autocascade. R23 and R290. It didn't last all that long, but got about -70 no load and -60 load temps with it's best tuning.
And this is my cascade. R23/290 and R402a/290. 1/2HP MP14FB Electrolux and 1/3HP FR10A Danfoss compressors. This is the first revision.
This is where I added the suction line heat exchanger.
No load temps, HX and Evap.
And HX running with Low stage at no load.
1 Hour load temps with 150w. HX and evap.
I've since replaced the evap and line and maybe I'll get some pics of it too, but I need to do something with the filter and that means recharging again, so that'll have to wait til I get some R23 or Ethylene.

personally pc ice makes the best looking cascades.
if i was buying i would buy one off him if price was right.
Heres my cascade with a square evap at -100c load for 1hr prime
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...t=72584&page=3
then with cpu upgrade to kayl evap and this is results now.
Cascade is only 60cm long 40cm wide and high.
2x 1Hp rotaries with R290 / and straight 1150 second stage.
Idle at -107c and loaded around -103c.
Ya can see results here
I have new enclosure and mont plate for casde and sleeving for suction line.
One day ill get back to the cascade again to sex it up.

Why didn't it last long? Again, I am a newb when it comes to phase/cascades (atleast for now), as far as how they operate. Is that an inherent problem with auto's or cascades in general?

Thats a beauty crotale. Did you build that or have it built? What temps at idle and load were/are you getting?

I would agree with that statement above about PC-Ice's cascades....sexy indeed.
Be sure to update the thread when you get the new mounting done with.
Wanna thank everyone for keeping to the point and posting pics with performance info as well.
Question: how does compressor hp affect cooling performance (idle and load)? Is it that a more powerfull compressor allows the unit to hold temps better (as in not straying from idle temps by much)? Or is it that more powerful compressors push you colder and colder?

A HVAC friend of mine built it for me.
-105 idle and around -98C with FX-57 at 3.5GHz running 3DMark2001.
