AMD to raise pricing on Opteron 1xx on Jan 23

    Look this online store:

    http://www.pccanada.com/inventory.asp?cat=CPUS#AMD

This could be true, because I see this statement at NCIX too...

The Inquirer probably picked that up from the report above. They'll take anything.

I think I know the store you mean They slapped £20 on the boxed 144s this week, they certainly didn't shout about it on their forums!!

This is what I've predicted myself many weeks ago, starting a few weeks b4 xmas even. I've been using a german pricelisting site to keep track on especially the Opteron 14x cpus (I still need one myself ) and I've noticed more and more sites had/have raised the price little by little every now and then. Many sites keep a very low price still though but that's expected since they are all out of stock everywhere right now and none of them have no idea when new samples arrive in stock.

I'm guessing it's a common AMD strategy which is simple & effective from economical view, make a few good performing & overclocking samples to a very low price that will capture attention and to see the reaction of the people. Now this period is over and we probably see starting from about late January the real Opteron marketing take place, this time probably with slightly higher price due to the popularity of these cpus regarding this low price we've been used to. I'm guessing if an Opteron 146 today costs let's say 170 - $180, I could expect the price to be raised to sth between 190 - $210. Also another interesting point for me is, will these new samples overclock just as good as their predecessors, or will AMD try to get more attention for their already very popular but expensier dual core cpus or perhaps wanna squeesh more money out of Venice/San Diego or at least try to make it more balanced. (Ok, not every1 are overclockers, but still Opterons get a lot of attention affecting ppl's choises)

(sorry wasn't meant to become any "The Inq." kinda msg... I like predicting tho )

If any1 got any ideas plz post away... I'm quite worried atm when I haven't got any Opty 146 yet myself and I want one... but as it seems to me now there's a bigger chance that we're seeing a raised price than unchanged or lowered.

    Hiya ...

i had today a longer conversation with an sales rep of one of the biggest AMD Distributors here in Germany ... it does really look ugly (regarding the prices)

    144 moves up ~ 30€
    146 moves up ~ 60€ !
    148 moves up ~ 30€
    150 stays +- the same
    152 drops a lot
    154 drops a lot

    165 moves up ~ 25€
    170 moves up ~ 20€
    175 moves up ~ 25€
    180 drops a lot

The values in € just depends on the current exchange rate $/€ ... so it could vary a bit ... new Prices are effektive already - but stocks are mostly "0" on the lower models. Next Shippment we expect ~ 25.01.06.

Yes the Opteron 146 is popular but 60€ is prolly way of what we will end up seeing, at least I hope so

I`m afraid not ... as i already ordered for next week ... and our price was ~ 190€ + tax, before it was ~ 130 + tax .... so ... it seems they checked their numbers ... and raised the number #1 on sales: 146

Damn if I only could have gotten one before they ran out of stock I'd only have had to pay 153€ + 20€ in shipment from Germany (to Finland)... sux, lucky bastards who already got one

Wanna get rid of this Sandy 3700+ that does 2.7GHz with 1.65V but only 10mins prime stable, useless to raise vcore. It's barely stable so no games or appz I use end up crashing and I refuse to lower the already miserable overclock.

Yeah, I might sell my 146. Killed the last one trying to phase it, would rather sell this one than kill it trying the same.

there where a few times I even saw a retail 144 more expensive than a retail 148 at newegg....lol....this is crap....why are they raising prices...its like they are upset that they are SELLING CPU'S amd is really starting to irritate me....if the dothan platforms didn't suck, i'd be gone by now..
