    Crucial Ballistix 2x512MB, Need Help

dear friend, I use 2 stick crucial ballistix pc3200 memory,
after several test using Memtest 1.51 test#5 then I got that
1st stick can get FSB 275 with 3-3-3-8 1T vdim 2.9v(rest setting set to default/auto)
    2nd stick can only get FSB 268 with 3-3-3-8 1T vdim 2.9v
but that FSB not stable, I mean sometimes (first stick) with FSB 275 can pass test#5 for more than 50pass, sometimes can't pass the test, this also happened with second stick.
Can anyone tell me what's wrong ? Or what should I do?
If I open the heatspreader and add ramsink on the memory, can I get higher FSB?

    Note :
    vcore 1.35+110%
    Cpu multi set to x7
    Htt multi set to x3
    Mem divider 1:1

Put a fan over the ram. If sometimes it passes memtest and sometimes it doesnt, it may be a heat issue.

I have already blow the heatspreader with a fan but the memory in ch 4(orange, near HSF proc) still hot, is it recommended to put the heatspreader and replace with ramsink?

can't run those with 2.5 timings?

balllistix can sometimes do those speeds at 2.5-3-3-X
and good ones can do near that at 2.5-2-2-5 with high(er) voltage

and 300mhz at 3-3-3-8 :P so i guess it can help

    with setting at 2.5-3-3-8 1T 2.9V, I only got 260 memtest stable ,with 3-3-3-8 1T 2.9V I got 270 memtest test#5 pass, but sometimes can't (the heatspreader rather warm)

here's how my good stick of ballistix does:

    click for review

zung, is the difference between the stable and unstable a cold vs warm boot?
Got a fan over those memory sticks? No? Well get to it before you kill them

When I test in dual stick the spreader near proc(orange ch4) --> warm, eventhough I put a fan on it(that's mean the IC inside spreaders HOT?)
When I test in single stick(orange ch 2) I am not sure it is warm or not, tonight I will try it again

warm and cold boot doesn't refer to the temperatures.

cold boot = previously off, just turned on
warm boot = reboot, either from windows or the bios

so, you put fans on it? How do you remove heatspreders? Is there any adhesive/ pad on it?

    I put a fan on Ballistix, without it are unstable. With fan I take 250mhz 2-2-2-5 (3.4v), 250mhz 2.5-2-2-5 (2.65v), 260mhz 2.5-2-2-5 (2.9v) rock solid
For benches now (with a San Diego) I take 274mhz 2.5-2-3-0 with 3.2v)

dear all, how much voltage I can give to my ram? I mean the minimum and maximum, cause after I give 3.2v (with a fan on top) the ram can't run stable at FSB200 by SPD - 2.7v.

They are getting to hot with Vdimm > 3,0V, so i would not use that for 24/7, 2,9V would be te max. i say. Maybe it is a problem of Timings? I reviewed some Tracer a time ago, there u can see some examples for Timings, maybe it can help u.

first time I use these memory, can run stable (SPD) 2-3-2-8 1T 2.7v but now I have to use 2.8v. Befaore I can run DDR 500 @2.5-3-3-8 1T 2.9v, but now I have to give 3.1v. Are these memory downgrade?

    what is the different?

and is this right? I mean with divider 120 cpu-z shows wrong freq, and with div140 cpu-z don't show the freq

dear all, thanks for giving me advice I have solved my problem, after I got twinmos sp, my comp works fine.
Eventhough I don't know what happened to my ballistix, cause tested with memtes (test#1 until #8 @200 2-3-2-8 1T 2.7v) for 13 passes/5 hours no error found.

    Maybe heat issue?
I want to take the heat spreader off.

I wouldnt say it was safe to put over 2.9Vdimm to the Ballistix, if you have to put more and more voltage to the sticks after time to make them work, its a symptom, that you gave too much voltage to them before and at that point they are also damaged,

one thing Ive noticed with the Ballistix: on higher frequencies I have to set refresh rate 100MHz 1.95 us (3684) with a 1:1 divider, this is the only refresh rate that is stable for me @ 280 MHz

    my Ballistix 2x512 worked 3-3-2-7 @ 283 with 2.8 Vdimm and Tref 100 MHz 1.95us (3684)

agreed for his, he has the single sided stick of 5b D, as given by the PN.. if he has double sided 5b G, i'd say he's safe to 3.1-3.2v if he can keep the sticks cool.

also.. i use the tref just underneath that for my ballistix, 3072 or something :p

zung.. a64's have an interesting way of doing memory dividers:
