The ultimate DFI Lanparty nF4 thread

    Hi everyone!

I have created this thread because the other one (http://xtremesystems.org/forums/show...1&page=1&pp=25) was getting a little crowded and, more importantly, it was becoming more and more off topic.

Here is a sum up of our findings:

    Official DFI nF4 page:

    http://www.dfi.com.tw/Product/produc...et+939&SITE=US

    Official DFI Manual:

    http://www.dfi.com.tw/Support/Downlo...YPE=LP&SITE=US

    OPB's (Onepagebook's) manual:

    onepage.techcool.co.uk/lpnf4.pdf

    NOTE
There are minor differences between these two manuals. The one from OPB talks about the DFI Smartspeed software, wheras the official manual does not.

    Other websites:

    (Notice oscar_wu's OC - 370MHz FSB)

    http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/show...&pagenumber=43
    Other interesting OC facts:
-Up to 4V VDIMM (from 5V line on PSU)
    -Up to 2.1 VCORE
For the overclocking minded enthusiasts, the nF4 motherboards now support memory voltage from 2.5V to 4.0V, CPU core voltage up to 2.1V, chipset voltage from 1.5V to 1.8V, HTT ranging from 1.2 to 1.5, adjustable multiplier control up to 20x and a large range of Async settings.

    Expected availability
    24-28.1.2005 - Germany
    17.1.2005 - USA

    Chipset(Thanks to H2OGun)
    DFI nF4 SLI-DR - A3 (o447A3 to be exact)

    IMPORTANT (thanks OPB)
There is a set of jumpers on the DFI nF4 mobo to switch between the 3.3V and 5V rails for the memory.

OPB: So if you are not going to do vdimm over 3.3v for 24/7, Oskar and I would not suggest you to switch vdimm source to 5v rail. This will cause higher heat on the MOSFETS near that area.

Oskar: However, even though user switch 5v rail source to do vdimm above 3.3v, the heat is still unbelivable hot there. therefore, that's why we use
the 4000~10000 hours 105c very good caps on that area. I would definitely suggest users can give that area some air flow to reduce some heat from there.

Memory module config (posted by OPB):
I talked to Oskar yesterday, he told me that, the LP nf4 is a bit different from most 939 boards in terms of the way you plug in your ram sticks in as dual channel.
** Make sure you plug in 1,3 or 2,4. And if you don't mind, I would say 2,4 will get greater performance than 1,3!

On DFI's webiste there are pictures of the box contents and the new front-x appears to be exactly like that but black... it's hard to see cause the picture is a little fuzzy.

Pretty sure... 3.3V wouldn't be able to handle it...

    Another update...

    why so many here
DFI SLI - DR - Does proper SLI (1st lane 8X and 2nd lane 8X), and comes with all the carp eg front-X, cable slleving etc.....

DFI SLI - D - Does proper SLI (1st lane 8X and 2nd lane 8X). Comes with out all the carp, just mobo, manual, drivers etc.

DFI Ultra D - As far as I am aware it allow a sort of SLI. Allowing one 1 lane 8x and the second lane 2X, again comes without all the carp.

Please someone corrct meon the last one if it's not right as I am not 100% on the speed of each lane when two graphics cards are installed

How about adding this to the top in your own words (not my quick answer), give a brief run down on what each version comes with?
