Revised GeForce GTX 590 Cards In June

Remember the horror of GeForce GTX 590 going up in smoke while benching? Well, apparently NVIDIA has found a way to solve this issue completely without doing a quick fix through the drivers. The solution : a much needed hardware fix where the new inductors are added to the card. However, the new inductors are larger in size therefore a change to the baseplate is needed ......

Well I'm glad they're fixing it instead of just acting like it isn't an issue or continuing to slow the cards down at high load.

If this is true, well, they've listened to me.

    Now that we all know, no one really cares(you rly?) about 590 being shorter than 6990. Put in some quality components on an uncramped pcb;
notch the def. clocks up a bit and never worry about the power consumption; coz ppl buying them knows what a dual gpu is.

Will people who bought the old revision get a free swap-out for a new revision card?

That must have been one big bitter pill to swallow. Lets hope it teaches them a lesson on cutting corners. Nah. Nvidia is going to screw their customers even more.

halfwaythere, do you realise that you just made two great puns? Although it was ATI cutting corners off of the power connectors and nVidia using wood screws on the Fermi sample

Maybe Nvidia is finally growing some balls and learning their lessons and doing what Intel did with the B3 steppings...

It's still amazing just how many companies try to blame all their on the end user, though. I mean, even when the cards were blowing up, there were still people on forums STILL BLAMING END USERS, despite proof that Nvidia was throttling the cards (slowing down your FPS) when they heat up....

If the GPU's can handle the voltages, it shouldn't be VRM's blowing up...you're supposed to over-engineer these things, not underengineer them...

Glad to see nVidia is addressing (and actually correcting) the problem.

Still too rich for my blood, but I'll happily take a donation.

This is just shameful from Nvidia, it was going great with their new cards specially since the 500 series appeard the 400 cards went so Cheap... and when u think they are getting ahead of ATI they go and release a dual card without seriously testing it! I mean you would think that straping two 500 gpus together like that would produce massive amounts of Heat... leason to learn from Intel... Dont release something new without testing it properlly and if their is a prob fix it for free... dont spect people to Buy it again??!! Seriously!!

    False.

It's not inductor problem on 590 card. Even with inductors from GTX580 it fails. I tried that.

Did you add more or just replace blown ones, or did the inductors from the 580 fail or something else fail?

Would be great if this card came with 6GB, though that is most unlikely. Gotta wait for ASUS to make one, if ever, or somebody else.

Is Kepler not due out at the end of the year? Presumably with the high end will come the med-high end as well? A la 580/570.

That's not entirely dependant on nVidia, but on TSMC 28nm process. The fact we are seeing a revised version of 590 now could indicate there isn't much coming soon.

Unless Kepler can be done on 40nm. Which I doubt.
