Both of my chips max out at 5Ghz with 1.50V. Could just be the board, really don't know the real answer at this time since I only have one board to test the two CPUs.
Nice all we need now is one that hits 60x!

You're the first person I see with 58x multi! Awesome batch, everyone get this one!

Now I believed that its the cpu, most walled @ 53X and a few out there that can go >54X easy. Batch # not a factor. For me is 1 out of 9 2600Ks
Problem is...no good mobo on sale
I agree ... but still congrats on finding that special chip! and your other sample with the same batch walls at 53x?... Batch hunting isn't easy. I've tested six 2600K to date and would like to find one that will do 55x (or better).
Ryzen 9 on the test bench... Sometimes older generation/tech as well.

    L040b208

Hey guys, I have an L040B208 that hasn't been opened yet and I p[lan to build the system this weekend. I can still exchange it at a local TigerDirect store, but I'm not sure what other batches they have in stock.

I'm a bit nervous that it's apparantly one of the older first shipping batches, but the results on this thread seem pretty good, although the volts needed are perhaps a bit highjer than some of the newer batches.

Would you stick with this L040B208 or try to find a newer batch? If so, which one(s) should I look for?

My core 1 temperature is way lower than the rest, or better put, the rest are higher than core 1. I already tried a little more thermal paste, but it doesn't help. Any ideas?
Measured with RealTemp, running IntelBurnTest 20x max.

I always see the same thing till I lap it. I lap all my CPUs. More than likely the IHS isn't flat. Thats the only way to fix something like that.

I too have a L040B208 and mine can do 56 multi. Do not trade that one with out testing it as you might be lucky.

    Good one.
I've been looking for these rare C-batches. This is the second one I've seen, and both has been doing really good.
Just after the resale I said: C-batch seams the way to go in tis round, and now this beast proves it.

Okay, so I went and got the L042B243 and I'm testing it now. So far it's doing worse than my first two CPUs. Can't even pass 5Ghz with 1.50V (LLC Overvoltage Enabled). Is my board the culprit?

The problem with SB batch hunting is there can be a big difference between chips within the same batch. I had three samples from the same batch and there was an easy 300Mhz difference amongst them with the same BIOS settings. That sample probably has a higher VID.

Wanted to see if my chip (a bit of an odd batch L038A660) would boot to 53x and 54x. 53x yes, 54X no. Requires more than 1.55vcore and bios says cpu overvolt (F1) and wont let me go any higher. In windows it'll go to 54. Really just to see if it would or wouldn't boot. Looks pretty average to the newer chips. I can bench at 5200 with this so I'm happy with that.
