    Nvidia Powered Tablet?!

You think maybe the cats at NVIDIA are a little hot to trot on the tablet concept? Not only did Mike Rayfield (the company's general manger of its mobile division) spout off on a "3G capable touchpad" a few months ago, but CEO Jen-Hsun Huang has been spotted in Dubai with some seriously radical looking hardware. When we hit a post on Huang and his love for all things Apple earlier today, we somehow missed a pic of the CEO hanging tough with that handsome slab you see up above. We're not going to speculate on what it all means, but from the looks of things, NVIDIA is trying to drum up hype around the concept of a Tegra-powered handheld that's just a bit more sizable than your standard PMP. Of course, if you were hoping for more than a tease (like, you know, a partnership announcement or something), you can just keep on waiting.

    [Thanks, Ron]

Expression and Nvidia hate set aside, that is looking like one awesome gadget.
I like it, wish it was just a bit smaller and thinner.

it does look a bit big to carry around and call practical but sure... serious convo, I can see everyday uses for it

Something iv been wanting to see progress for a long time now... I want to see much better touchscreens available. The few options we have, have horrible thick-ass edges, are too thick-front-to-back and are low res. A thin-bezel... NO-bezel? 7" touchscreen to supplement a main TFT would be so so SO nice

    I want a 4"x6" tablet.

A 4x6 note book (paper) is just perfect for taking notes and fits into the back pocket of most jeans. With the added functions of a PC like e-mail and the basic offices software and adobe (most of my electrical and mechanical drawings are in PDF), I would be in heaven for work.

Well that's their growth strategy and it's of course the right thing to do with AMD and Intel cramping their style on the PC. That's not to say the tablet is necessarily Nvidia fare.

they should put tegra to some uses like this.

make a few different sizes all with the same OS and hopefully they can get some cool apps to run on them.

Nvidia will make a metric -ton of money with this new Nintendo handheld contract they're getting. I'm not an Nvidia fanboi, but I see that their company is coming out with some pretty damn useful technology in the mobile sector and desktop GPGPU. Still, this oversized iPhone looking thing may be a tough sell, but don't discount Nvidia just yet.

PS: The Photoshops are funny as heck. Jensun must pose like that on purpose.

    hah lol

looks like an mba with the screen bolted to the case... is that supposed to be impressive?

i still dont get what the hype about touchscreens and tablet pcs is all about...
it sounds cool and futuristic, but once you actually worked with one or played around with it its really annoying and not useful at all... there are exceptions, but yeah... for a normal consumer device it doesn't make sense imo...

and yes, jensens face is... freaky on that pic lol...
and idk, is it just me or does jensen look more and more like kim jong il the older he gets? ^^

NVIDIA tablet mystery solved: an ODM Tegra prototype

NVIDIA just hit us with more info on that mysterious tablet Jen-Hsun Huang was pictured with yesterday, and the truth is just as we'd assumed: it's a Tegra prototype from an ODM called ICD that's being "actively" shopped to carriers around the world. Sorry, folks, no Apple involvement here -- although we're sure Jen-Hsun would enthusiastically embrace that possibility.

As far as the ICD tablet goes, we're waiting for official confirmation on specs, but we got a credible tip this morning suggesting that it's currently running Windows CE with a resistive touchscreen, and that both Android and capacitive upgrades are in the cards, as well as multiple screen sizes. We're also told that the goal is a March 2010 launch and that T-Mobile might be involved, but we wouldn't take any of that to the bank until we hear for real -- stay tuned.
