    ** XS Exclusive ** Athlon x2 5000 Unlocked

    http://products.amd.com/en-us/Deskto...alse&f11=&f12=

Saw one today in store, is that K8 based *(Athlon64x2) processor or just another "rebrand" Athlon II ?

The price is HKD $ 440 (~$56 USD) , which is around the same price with Athlon II x2 240

    ================================================== ========
    It unlocked into Quad Core

Stepping C2? It has to be an X2 240 with half cache, or a Propus/Deneb based core.
    It's K10 based, that's for sure...

Looks like Propus with half of L2 cache disabled.
That's probably the reason for Athlon X2 branding ...

only if it doesn't have SSE4.1a is a K8. I doubt they can disable that part on K10 cores it's designed a little different then K8.
it's also AM2+ and I doubt it's 65 watts last 5000 they made was 5050e which had tdp of 45 watts.
    HAVE NO FEAR!

I will try grab one tomorrow night
If it's Propus based , maybe give it a try with "ACC Unlock"

Looks like a slower AM2+ version of the 215.

I wasn't sure if that was a goof or not so I left it out of my list thread when I added the C3 Phenom II X2 545. It was certainly confusing that they reused the 5000+ name. I tried looking up the OPN but only got a bunch of motherboard manufacturer references.

    Just purchased this CPU
    Socket AM2+ CPU , NB at 1.6GHz , HT 1.6 GHz
    Vcore 1.4V ( clear CMOS and re-check, it's fine with 1.3x V

    odd ball

Looks like an AM2+ (rather then AM3) package, probably
lacking DDR3 support;everest should be able to tell (under chipset,K10
    north bridge...)

yep, it looks like a Socket AM2+ Athlon II x2 with half of the L2

IMHO it cost too much and Athlon II x2 240 is a better choice

But the naming for "Athlon x2 5000" is confusing, as it's Athlon II based , Socket AM2 board without BIOS update (to support AM3 CPU) probably won't work with it.

CPU-Z shows Model 4. So it's probably Deneb.
Could you try to unlock cache (or cores) with ACC?

Very Odd.. it's actually slower than a 5000+, hence not worthy of that model number..

Can't say I understand the purpose of this chip!

    XtremeSystem Exclusive ?!

Tested today with ACC Capable board
It Unlocks into something called "Phenom FX-5000 Quad Core"
I did run a few bench

I left the USB Flash with the bench and cap screen at work, so I will try to get them posted tomorrow !

**** So far no one else notice that , I guess this is XtremeSystem Exclusive news *****

    Stay tuned !

os it's an really phenom II 940, under the IHS.

seems like a huge waste, to disable so much on something lol

I just set ACC => AUTO in BIOS
Reboot and it shows " Phenom FX 5000 Quad Core "
Booted up fine with Windows XP , and task manager shows up four thread monitor

    CPU-Z 1.52.2 shows name "Phenom FX 5000"
But it doesn't show "Deneb" or "Propus"

The ACC trick unlocked 2 more core , 6MB L3 Cache
Just a quick test , I ran Cinebench R10 and the score match up
    single-core score - 19xx
    Multi-core score - 7xxx

I hate the part is I really want to share the benchmark cap screen with you guys but I left the stupid USB Flash drive at my work place.

The CPU itself (w/o unlock) doesn't clock really high, only reach 2.7GHz with Default voltage

I have seen a lot of people saying it has half the cache or 1/2 cache DA? Well I dont believe that is the case I think either a denab with 2 cores/caches and l3 DA or a Propus X2, taking the L2 and doing a split seem a little strange to me. If the yield is that bad then perhaps AMD has some big fab problems.

you can't have bad yields if you get X amount of partial good cpu's if means your volume is high, failure rate is an unknown at this point.

some chips might not be bad either just needed to make volume.

at $58 this is steal with acc board. clock speed is low that is the only problem.

I can see your point but I still see an issue.

Why would AMD do this as there is already a CPU at this price point with the regor being $4 more? I could understand if they had been in a crunch but, this proc was released into a market that really did not need it. Perhaps they have a new stepping and want to clear the old out?

Why not ramp up the mulit a little since it is locked?

Could also be for bios/mb comparability reasons but I doubt it.

I was pointing out that it is strange.

Back when I was in management I had a little motto: "slow down to increase profitability and then slowly ramp up production with the highest quality in mind"

Seems to me that the yields are "too good",since there are so many different K10's around (I've lost count).
Besides AMD has no fabs, probabbly getting a good deal on the
surplus (?) of cpu's from the Global F.

The L2 cache size gave this one away,Phenom FX that's
    pretty good
