correct me if I'm wrong, but no full-cover gpu that I've seen yet has flow over the VRM's

Danny at DTek invented the term Unisink. (Correct me if I am wrong Danny) but didn't "uni" in unisink meant universal? How close are we today of a universal heatsink for VGA?

O, I always thought "uni" referred to one. To distinguish from the sticky heatsinks.

you might be right.. Danny would have to say.
Anyways, the point I really wanted to make was that the proliferation of revisions and models is making this VGA market insanely difficult to cater to.

O, i don't disagree one bit. It would be nice if they didn't have to change PCB reference designs every 2 weeks. It kindof defeats the purpose of having a reference design.

Gabe on the bright side tho, how long has the MCW60 been in circulation? :P
That's about as universal as they can get.

it's too early to tell. Right now the ATI 5870 has limited quantities. My thought is you may see them in around the first week or the second week of Oct.

The problem with the unisinks are that by the time you buy the GPU block and then the matching unisink, you've mostly likely spent as much as just buying a full cover block. I say forget the unisinks and just go for full coverage. Sure the GPU only blocks are going to be more compatable, but then you have to direct a fan at your card to cool off everything else which normally looks kinda weird.
BTW, anyone have pics of what the 5870's heatsink looks like under the shroud? I'm wondering if it is like the 4870 where you can leave the stock plate with fan on to cool the memory and VRMs while a GPU block covers the core.

Hi!
Anybody has the card already?
I am testing the prototype in 1 hour.
I guess we will have the blocks ready to sell in 7-10 days if anyone will want to buy it, as the availability is poor.

Sweet.
But for a 5850 I might be buying a heatkiller block instead. I really hate the groove of the swiftech products.

unisink and MCW60 for GTX285 $68.00
FC block $112.00
Thats a $44.00 difference. That will just about buy you a MCR320-QP, so there is a bit of savings going to a unisink, but they do have their downsides.
@ Eddy,
I like the old logo better. It had this flow to it.
The prototypes look good though.

Really, you do?
My first impression when I saw the new logo on the top plate in that render was that it looked pretty sick and better than the old one lol!
Either way still looks like a great block. Congrats!

Looking good as usual Eddy! I like the new logo as well. Kind of innovative in the merging of the 2 letters. Looks like an 'Autobot' or 'Decepticon' face sideways.

I just liked the flow the other logo had.
I have nothing against this one, and i can see where it would be nice for CPU blocks and what not. A little smaller footprint.

Uhhh... no. As proven above, you have not almost spent as much.
Not to mention that once you buy the GPU block then from that point on, ALL you have to spend is about $30-40 for a new unisink.. and possibly 5-10 (or free) for another bracket to fit the GPU block to that card
And who says you HAVE to have a fan? Most will work fine with just the airflow inside the case, but UNLIKE full-cover gpu, you actually HAVE the option to put a fan on ANYWHERE on the block if you want even more cooling
On another note, if you rotate your head to the right, that new EK logo kinda looks like an autobot sign.

Eddy,
It looks like this new block extends out further and covers the VRMs as well without the secondary aluminum plate. If so, good job.

The quote almost sounds like having the ability to cool the rest of the card with a fan is an upgrade to watercooling the whole card in the first place...

Correctly.
I wanted to bring water as close as possible to VRM's.
