the lowdown 404a vs. 507

ok i just found a book on 404a and 507. In this book it actually shows the pros and cons of each compared, as follows:

-507 is an azeotrope demonstrating 0.1F 0r less temperature glide.

-r404a is a blend and must be liquid charged using a throttling device in the manifold hose.

thermodynamic capacity: R-507 is slightly higher than 404a

system capacity: 507 is typically about 3% higher than 404a

Compressor efficiency: 507 is 1-2% higher than 404a

system efficency: 507 is about 3-4% higher than404a. field test data has ranged from 2-7%

- the refrigerant-side heat transfer coefficient is higher for 507 than 404a. the presense of 134a in 404a increases mass transfer resistance that results in a decline in heat transfer

Look at the Enthapy chart of 507 vs 404a.. not what the lab data says. If I'm wrong with this.. by all means show me were. I may be a little off on the data. Due to the poor Charts I have.

Both @ 100F Condensing, -40F evap, Subcooling to 0F

R-404A 73BTU/lb 16% flash gas 140F Discharge.
R-507 68BTU/lb 20% flash gas 150F Discharge.

Hence Liquid line stablizers should be common pratice on all Boxes with any newer Refrigerant.. This is why Alco made them.

For those that dont know. Their basicly a Filter Drier will the insides taken out and a length of pipe going diagonaly through it.

BTW.. Alco has a new sight glass out. Instead of showing %15 moisture. Their down to 3%.. Much better for POE oil.
