Logmein causes smp crash in Vista and win7 x64 ?

Has anyone been able to use logmein with vista or win7 x64? and not have issues with smp (Folding@home-Win32-x86.exe)

It works fine if smp is not running. but about 90% of the time when I log into the machine with logmein for remote with smp running.. I get a window that says the smp has died. and sure enough, check the logs and what I see is listed below.

for example here's where I lost a smp wu at 96% this morning when I logged into it.. and it took me twice to log into it because of logmein hang issues with with Folding@home-Win32-x86.exe
and this is what I find when the desktop finally comes up...

finally I had to give up and physically go to the machine to get the clients restarted. and this is what the log looked like.
    Code:

man, these freekin baby sit issues never cease...

I've tried activex, mozilla, java, and html modes. and they all do it...

the gpu is fine. but logmein kills smp every freekin time... something to do with the login from logmein fights with Folding@home-Win32-x86.exe, makes it stop responding, hangs the logmein console, then closes itself and unhangs the console. what a pita. I guess it's impossible to remote into a rig that's on smp in v64 or win7 64.. remote works for pretty much everything else on the pc, but if that smp client is running, you might as well take some tylenol, because the headaches are comin'...

    anyone?

with no solution to this, my only option is to stop smp folding when I'm out of town and need remote access to these rigs.

I have an idea. Logmein uses a software graphics emulator does it not? Do you have it set to black the screen? Similar to how I couldn't do GPU folding when was using Windows inbuilt Remote Desktop over the lan. Its unusual that its the SMP client... so its only a guess.

EDIT: Yep./ If you go to devices in control panel you should see 'Logmein Mirror Driver' listed beside your GPU(s).

the strange thing is it doesn't happen everytime. every once in while it connects just fine and doesn't kill the client or hang the console. it's like a moody woman, sometimes you walkin and get a "hey how's it goin'" and then sometimes you walk into a hornets nest and have no idea why you're getting stung.

I gave up on SMP because of little nitpicky issues they seem to not want to touch. I mean, come on, it has been out for a long time now and still in "beta" mode. That, and the 20+MB work units don't do too well on my limited bandwidth here at home. I run WCG on my CPUs now.

I'm running GPUs on F@H only, I have much less issue with that. I know windows remote desktop doesn't work with the GPUs but I rarely have to touch the systems. When I do, I use my KVM and change things physically right there.

Mike, if you do a search at F@H you will find this is a "known issue." I was actually surprised when you posted you had installed logmein on all boxes. There is 1 remote log on program that works. At one point I downloaded it but never installed it. I can't remember the name. Someone there should be able to tell you which one you need.

Bruce said the issue with logmein was GPU client, and that's what all the logmein failure reports at FF are (GPU)...
mine is with SMP... GPU gives me no issue..
I take what I read at FF with a grain of salt.. you cant depend on half those noobs that show up and post to have valid info, until you test for yourself.

VNC is the other proggie.. and guess what?
No vista on the free version http://www.realvnc.com/products/download.html

Logmein on the other hand works great wioth vista64 and win7 64, until you try to use it with SMP... then it hangs and dumps until smp is killed.
Those users that are talking about it not working with gpu must be XP, because I can connect to al my siat64 and win7 64 boxes with gpu running and it has no problems.
BUT, try to do it with smp running, and it takes a BIG CRAP!

Mike. I use VNC here!!! ON Server 08! I use it to log into XP boxes. Its the free RealVNC. The version I use is vnc-4_1_3-x86_win32.exe << installer.

yeah, but I need to control 2 machines that aren't XP... I think my best bet is logmein from the internet and just kill the smp clients.. FF suggested I run notefred's instead to try and get around the issue.. but tbh, I'm pretty fed up with fah bugs and the effort we go to to make things work as users... so I'm gonna just say FK it and kill smp when I want remote access from the internet. just chalk me up as another PG software casualty, I'm in the same mindset as Sparky lately.

I finally gave up on SMP.. moved my 2 Q6600's over to WCG this morning... Logmein is working great. not one hiccup in win7 64 since I stopped the smp's...

so now I just have the 5 gpu's folding for fah..

and PG, being true to it's lineage, has 4 of them idle this morning...

I had to ask... have you set up VNC as a server on a Vista machine? I mean have you tried it? I just thought you dimissed using it because of non mention of support for Vista on its webpage.

I looked at it, and installed it.. but I was pretty fed up at the time and not in the mindset to figure anything out. LOL! so I uninstalled it about 2 minutes later.. plus I wasn't sure if it had internet remote access from glancing at the instructions. and logmein does.. you just goto https://secure.logmein.com/ login to the account and control the pc's from any browser in the world.
I'm already set now with smp gone, it's about time I joined the wcg team anyway...

I tried VNC on vista and it work, but I prefer an old version.
