Plantronics CS70N Professional Headset

Review of the Plantronics CS70N Professional Headset System

First Impressions

The box that the CS70N Headset System arrived in is very elegantly designed.

The front of the box has an excellent picture of the hardware and a picture of the headset in use. It accurately depicts what you are purchasing.

The back of the box has a picture of the headset components actually hooked up to your desk phone. It gives an accurate depiction of what the system will look like on your own desk.

Surrounding the picture of the hardware there are descriptions of 5 key features of the headset. These features are the reasons consumers would purchase the headset system.
Along the lower edge of the box is a description of the warranty for the headset. It is written large enough to be readable!! An 800 number is included – for the consumers benefit along with an email address.

The wording along the top edge (back) of the box says: “Made for the First Moon Landing, Made for life” It is fact that Plantronic headsets were used on the Apollo missions to the moon. This adds to the company’s integrity and removes all doubt when it comes to the performance of this unit.

One side of the box has the specifications of the system listed. These are listed in a clear concise manner. They are very helpful and an accurate account of the product. The other side of the box has the optional accessories listed. This is also a nice feature. Overall – the design and packaging of the system is excellent.

What's inside

Upon opening the box – the Headset System is displayed superbly! The 5 easy steps to set up the CS70 phone system is an excellent design.

The component pieces are all in their own little box, with the installation step number clearly visible. Overall the effect is very pleasing to the eye.

Performance

The set up guide has an excellent description of the package contents, and each of the 5 steps of installation.
Step 1, shows how to properly use the headset. This description was excellent. It was nice to see that Plantronics didn’t assume that all consumers already know how to use a headset properly.
Step 2 was the only step that was not crystal clear.
Step 2 A was easy.
Step 2 B was not so easy – the connection at the bottom of the headset base to the phone handset was difficult. I was unsure of the proper alignment for the connection- as well as the proper angle. This step was frustrating and time consuming.
Step 3 was terrific.
Step 4 – using the handset lifter – looked like it was going to be difficult. I took a deep breath before beginning. To my surprise – the directions were wonderful and this section didn’t cause any difficulty.
Step 5 – optimizing your system – was well thought out and had an excellent presentation on paper and on the automated sound test.

The phone specifications listed on the outside of the box are an accurate description of the system’s capabilities. The headset is very easy to use. The headset worked over 300 feet away from the base. I was able to talk on the phone with vendors and walk around the office to accomplish other tasks.
I tried using the copy machine and fax while on the headset. Using these noisy pieces of office equipment didn’t interfere with my phone conversations. The person that I was talking to could still hear me without any difficulty. The headset Microphone is truly noise canceling. I deal with an elderly population on the phone, none of them had any difficulty hearing me and I didn’t have any difficulty hearing them.
The volume is very easy to adjust on the headset or at my desk phone, but once I adjusted the volume initially – I have never needed to adjust the volume further.
I have worn the headset for over 8 hours without any discomfort. The battery easily lasts longer than an average workday. I use my phone frequently – but intermittently through out the day, and have never run out of battery life. The handset lifter is a nice but not a necessary feature.
I also like the fact that technical support is available via email or phone. I didn’t need the help, but liked the security blanket that this provided.

Final Words

Overall installing of this system was easy and very rewarding. I would highly recommend this system to anyone looking for a wireless headset system. I have used Plantronics systems for the last 10 years at my office and the company has never let me down.

Overview

Packaging; 10 out of 10 Frags: It was superbly packaged with a clear description of the product on the box

Price; 8 out of 10 frags: At $399.95 MSRP, the price is very steep for the average telecommunications person or anyone wanting wireless telephone capabilities. If your company is buying this for employee usage then cost is not an issue.

Instructions; 9 out of 10 Frags:
Some steps were a little frustrating but most were easy and straight forward.

Performance; 10 out of 10 Frags: This is truly an amazing piece of equipment that is recommended to all that can afford it. You get crystal clear tones coming through it with amazing noise canceling performance. Great product for any office worker or phone enthusiast.

Overall this product scores 9.25 out of 10 Frags giving it Clan Team Xtreme Approval!

The headset is not bad at all, I use it at work, and after a year its still going strong, but I do have some issues with the contact not touching after about 8 month so sometimes I come to work to a dead headset.

Yes, sorry I didn't clarify, but its the two prongs in the base where the headset goes.
