Have I been conned?

Hi guys, I was wondering something...I RA'd a gigabyte X48-DQ6 rev 1.3 Motherboard because it had a faulty bios chip, now the board I got back is a used rev 1.1 board. So I was wondering if there was any difference between the two or have I been conned?

If someone could please tell me if there is any difference I would much appreciate it!

There is very little difference that I can see , you'll see underneath the motherboard that you've gained a CrazyCool Heatsink I had a busted v1.0 & got a 1.3 replacement & apart from that didn't notice any change , although my boards were the DDR3 T versions.

It is a bit shabby though getting an older revision, who did the RMA ??

CPL did the RMA The 1.3 came with a crazycool heatsink as well. Now I was about to rebuild my PC when I noticed a little bit of moisture near the cpu housing (it kinda looked oily) Now I rang CPL and asked them why I got a used 1.1 when I believe if they (Gigabyte) should have fixed my 1.3 or replaced it with a new one?...considering it was not even 14 days old when it fell over. The guy (CPL) told me that if my board was going to take a long time to fix or cannot be fixed, then I will just get back a board (same model) that is working, tuff luck...Now I'm not happy about that and he said it states so on the warranty card that all they do is give another board the same model. I said that I would ring Gigabyte cust service center and ask WTF. The CPL guy said I would be wasting my time. Grrrr ...............Not happy JAN!

OMG...........looking at the board where it tells you Gigabyte GA-XXX-XXX they have put a little sticker saying it is a X48 DQ6...........Well I just peeled back that sticker to see that the board is a X38-DS4.....They have 'rebadged' the board as a X48 DQ6. WTF is going on here with Gigabyte? Are they taking its consumers for complete IDIOTS?

Because it was purchased at CPL and is under warranty...Therefore I need to get a RMA...I don't think Gigabyte would just except it from me without going through place of purchase first. Feels like I have been dry boned by Gigabyte. They could have asked me to at least lube up a bit first

almost al x48 are like that the x48 and x38 are electrically identical so instead of retooling they just change out the NB chips that they use the higher binned x48

Ok so what you are saying is that I have nothing to worry about and I should not pursue the matter any further?

Since the board is still under warranty from the place of purchase, they (CPL?) should have given you a shiny brand new board without getting you through the Gigabyte RMA process. What is the replacement policy of CPL? That's what I'd be working with if I was you.

I don't understand what blame you can place on gigabyte when you said yourself the rma wasn't handled by them? Sounds like an issue between you and the vendor.

Well according to CPL they have only a 7 day replacement policy if the board is faulty, if the board falls over after 7 days they send back to manufacturer to be either fixed or replaced...Even though the board died 12 days after purchase, tough luck for me, and they will tell you to take it up with consumer affairs. I am going to phone Gigabyte about this tomorrow (Monday) and ask them what the hell is going on, because I don't want no rebadged board regardless if it is identical electronically because having the board marked X38 DS4 is only going to hurt my resale value BIG TIME! I thought Gigabyte were better than this

really, CPL is the thorn on the rose bush!...they did not provide you with the service you expected!

here in the USA, most vendors give a 30 day return policy for boards that are defective....we get a new board if you tell them that it is defective, i.e.,does not post or does not even power up!

in your situation, since you had only 7 days to have CPL to give you a replacement board, it would have been in 'your' favor to requst an RMA direct from gigabyte...i believe they would have treated you better than CPL!

Yeah well I'm gonna ring Gigabyte on Monday and tell them I'm not happy about it....I might even ask if they will credit CPL so I can get my money back, the whole experience has left a bitter taste in my mouth...I'll let you guys know how I get on.

Ok guys heres the heads up so far. I rang the RA dept at CPL, they have said they don't know what has happened because the board was sent back by their supplier (this is after they tried telling me that was my repalcement): Not Gigabyte and to bring the board back...So I rang gigabyte (to arm myself with knowledge) here in Australia and told the guy who was most helpful, my story and he said that was bad customer service and it should never have happened and they (Gigabyte) have a policy of replacing with the current revision or if they can't do that, they will give you the next revision or model up......NEVER an older revision like I was given. He was most surprised that they would do that to their customers and told me to return it. If I have no joy he will help me. As he said in his own words....It's like putting in a rolex and getting back a swiss. Will post back and let you know what happens next.

Gigabyte isn't going to refund you but I've had the opportunity to deal with them on a couple things and they were always more than fair as well as courteous and prompt. I can think of a few hardware companies that should get lessons from them. Best luck to you getting by this.

Ok I returned the board with no problems, the guys behind the counter couldn't believe what they were looking at..One of them told me he was unhappy working there, and he didn't like the way customers were being treated. He said they (the workers) get shafted too..LOL. So they are going to send the board back with my instructions as to have my board fixed, or get a new replacement. I will except nothing less. They said they would incur the costs of shipping one to me.......How kind seeing they tried to pull a fast one on me............So we'll see! I told the guy to tell the manager that they have just lost a customer....Let you know what happens next :-) Yes I know, when it comes to the door CHECK IT THOROUGHLY BEFORE SIGNING FOR IT......Yes I hear you all loud and clear on that one hehehehe. Ok

I rang CPL today as I have heard nothing so far....The guy who answered my call told me he can't find any details regarding my board, He also can't find any details regarding my information that I had left with them when I took back that dodgy piece of S hit they gave me as a replacement.....So he said to call back tomorrow I think CPL might have shafted me on this! No more buying from them
