    TRUE vs Xigmatek S1283

    First off, this is just a quick test, far from perfect, but I just thought it would be interesting to share.

    I have been using the Xigmatek cooler for a while now with a Q6600 and have been pleasantly surprised at the results. This weekend I had a chance to compare it with my Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme. I have had this TRUE for months and it is lapped.

    I tested on an open bench because it just takes too much time switching everything around using a case. Ambient temps were rather cool, 65-68f. I did this in my garage and I live in Seattle.

    The set-up: P5K Premium (0504 Bios), Q6600 (not lapped)@ 3.6ghz, 1.425vcore, loadline calibration enabled, 2 x 1GB Gskill PC8500. Both coolers were tested with the stock Xigamtek fan and a Panaflo M1A that I normally run with the TRUE. Screenshot were taken after about 1 hour of blend in Prime 95. I know small fft's will produce more heat, but just trying to show more of a real world comparison. Also, since the temps tend to fluctuate some, I tried to watch and take the screenshot at the highest temp. Now on to the results.

    Xigmatek, stock fan:

    TRUE with stock Xigmatek fan:

    Xigmatek with Panaflo M1A:

    TRUE with Panaflo M1A:

    As you can see from my results the Xigmatek S1283 damn near matches the TRUE's performance. At about half the cost, this has to be the best bang for your buck cooler. With the stock fan, it is pretty quiet, and didn't really gain a lot with the more powerful fan. That is where the TRUE really shines. On my last test with the Panaflo fan, my ambient jumped up to 72f. (The wife came home and parked her hot car in the garage) Even with the higher ambient, temps dropped significantly over the Xigmatek fan.

    So what does this all prove? Nothing except that I some extra time this weekend Just thought I would share.

    Very nice performance, especially considering the price tag.

    "I know small fft's will produce more heat, but just trying to show more of a real world comparison."

    That leads me to believe that the TRUE is a far better cooler when things get hotter, but nice micro review! Its a good cooler for the price.

    So looks like (guesstimating that ambient = motherboardT - ~7°, based on the known of 72F at 29C for the final run):

    Xigmatek+xigmafan: 35.5° dT
    Xigmatek+M1A: 32.5° dT
    TRUE+xigmafan: 34° dT
    TRUE+M1A: 21° dT

    Not sure what to make of that *scratches head*

    1400RPM shouldn't perform that badly on the TRUE...or in the other direction, 2100RPM shouldn't perform that well

    Maybe the air going into the HSF was still colder, but the board/HDD got the warmer air?

    Either way, before the ambient changed, the Xigmatek definitely proved its mettle, IMO.

    Small fft's run during blend also. I was going to take the screenshots while small fft's were going, but I grew impatient waiting for them to come around again. The difference is about the same between the two even with small fft's.

    Not guessing on the ambient, I have a thermometer on the wall by the bench. It does look like I have some srcewy cpu temps on that last shot though. Everest shows the increase in motherboard and hard drive temps, yet a decrease in cpu temp. Didn't notice that before.

    Didn't see you said 65-68F for the first three runs

    Yeah, that last run is just kinda weird if you look at all the temps

    some coolers perform better in certain cases due to airflow requirements and orientation

    i just mentioned in another thread that a review i read said that a gemini performed better than a TRUE because of the poor ventilation in a media centre case. the gemini was better because there was a vent ontop of the case. the TRUE was choked.

    when buying a heatsink the case should be a factor in deciding

    WOW. That Xigmatek is an amazing cooler for the price. Almost as good as a TRUE, and for half the price . I still think that I'd go for the TRUE even though its more expensive as it would shave off a couple more degrees, but for many the Xigmatek looks like it would be ideal.

    The price/performance is the big selling point, but I really like Xigmatek because of it's lighter weight. I believe it's only 600 grams with the fan.

    That is a a pretty good advantage. The TRUE is a heavy heatsink.

    Nice not sure if it's as good value in Australia especially if you already have 120mm fans lying around

    TRUE = AUD$70
    S1283 = AUD$59 ~15.7% less in price

    Mwave has it at $27 with no rebate.

    I'm wondering how much temperature dropped when [XC] 4X4N changed from weak stock push-pin mounting to the bolt-through mounting.

    I never even used the push pins. The bolt through is so much easier to work with, plus it's only $5.

    Ok, Here s a tricky question. I just bought All the components for a new System Build, among them is a Xiggy 1283 (standard) and two SilenX Ixtrema 120mm Fans, (intended for Case cooling) they seem to have a better CFM-rating from my vendor. Now to the question, Could or better, should i use one of them as HSF? or am i better off with the original fan, and use it as rear exhaust fan (as planned)? Are they any good Anyway?
