New Xigmatek BattleAxe Cooler
I reviewed this thing today for OCPulse. What a heatsink! Maintained a 57ºC load on my OC'd GTS 640.
The thing looks sick too.
Quote:
I tested the BattleAxe on my eVGA 8800GTS 640MB video card. It is overclocked to 648MHz core, 1566MHz shader and 972MHz RAM. The RAM is vModded. I compared the BattleAxe to my watercooling system. I have an independent VGA loop, consisting of a BIX 2 radiator, D-Tek Fuzion GFX block & a Swiftech MCP-655-B pump. While this may seem unfair, I think it’s fair. We all know the Xigmatek would beat stock cooling by a huge margin, so I think it’d be more interesting to see how this air cooler does when stacked up against a real watercooling setup.
To generate a load, I ran a program called RTHDRIBL v1.2. I ran this program for ten minutes, at 1680×960 with 16x mutlisampling. I used RivaTuner 2.06 to read the temperatures after I had completed the test. Room temperature was taken into account when calculating ΔT (delta temperature). ΔT is the difference between two measured temperatures. In this case, it is measured room temperature vs. measured card temperature. I chose to use the ΔT between the two because it is far more accurate than measuring the temperatures of the card with each cooling solution without factoring in the fluctuations in ambient temperature that may occur.

I love the grill! You can remove it if you don't like it, very easily.

just confirmed, it will fit this card, but I run into another problem...
originally i was planning to run SLI 1 with this cooler one with original but the SLI bridge that came with xfx 780i is hard one and I don't have the clearance after installing the vga cooler, anyone where can I get a soft one?
atm my options are running it with just 1 8800gt forget about SLI or use 2 stock coolers which I don't want....or I can find the soft bridge!

Be careful, Xigmatek themselfs told me it wont work with any G80 deribate without the IHS on the GPU, that is 8800 Ultra, 8800GTX, 8800GTS 320 and 8800GTS 640. It wont make good contact

@NickS - WOW. What were your temps at stock? It looks really good, but how much do the grills restrict airflow?

Only tested with the card OC'd but I'd guess 53-55 load @ stock clocks. Even with the grille in place there was a LOT of airflow.

Heres some results with an SPL meter. This was really close.. ~1ft.
That would be roughly 57 dB @ ~1ft. At about 3ft away it was less than 50 dBa.
Heres a video of it as well.

I think it'd be real close in performance. I like the way this looks and mounts a lot better.

I am still installing the thing, I need to wait on the soft SLI cable or I can only run with 1 card if battle axe installed.
I do realize they come with a heatsink in the package, I think thats suppose to be the headsink you need to put on the small gpu before installing the battle axe.
