New Scythe Orochi cooler

http://www.scythe.co.jp/cooler/orochi.html

Dimensions : 120×194×155mm(height)

10 heatpipes, 1155gm, CPUs below TDP 65W can run fanless. Can this beat Ultra 120 Extreme?

Announced in Japan today and will be available for purchase from 21th this month. Retail price will be 6980yen, compared to Zipang(4780yen) and Infinity(4480yen), this cooler would be the most expensive Scythe air cooler. Ultra 120 Extreme retails at 7980yen though.

Hmm... I'm not sure, but is this design really taking advantage of all that Al surface area? Is that an Al base too? Seems like something for show... I guess we'll have to wait for some tests.

If something that big is nessacary, you should just go water! I think the guys at Scythe are trying to compensate for something!

I think the whole point they are trying to make is an air cooler that is just as good as water. I would get rid of all my watercooling crap if this turns out to cool just as good.

This thing is pure overkill. Besides it would kill any chance of good airflow in your case

I think i dont have to point out that this thing doesnt fit in a Midi Case :P

Water is better than this monster anytime and its doesnt take up that much space

Looks like a horizontal ninja or enlarged andy samurai to me. The fins are wide apart so that fansless mode is supported. To compensate for that, 10 heatpipes are used.

That thing is massive!

The heatsink manages to completely dwarf the 140mm fan.

I wonder if you could run a fan on each side? EDIT: looks like you can from the diagram.

Will the 500rpm fan work that well considering the huge area it has to blow through?

Knowing the performance of most other scythe coolers this will probably be crap. :P

That double row of heatpipes doesn't look like it would conduct much heat to the second row.
