Can you tell us exactly what you did? Post all settings and testing method for stability. Thanks in advance.
You said 4.3Ghz at 1.55v in one post. Then you talk about 4.6Ghz at 1.8v in another. I think that it pretty high. After any degradation, I would rather lower the speed than try to increase the voltage.
What kind of cooling are you using? Please tell me is phase or ln2 or dice.
My chip might be dying now. Orthos doesn't want to run very long.

i had this chip for burning only so i didn't care about degrade so i just put some volt o see how the cpu will react
for cooling i had water on the Cpu & board
For stability Prime95 with "Round Off Checking" on
so the first week he could do
3.8Ghz with 1.35
4.3Ghz with 1.55
4.6Ghz with 1.65V
now a week after runing for 24/7 @ 4.6 with 1.65V stable
thenhe needed for
3.8Ghz 1.4Volt
4.3Ghz 1.8
and for more Mhz only with the 1.9 and more Vcore
i didn't mined to lower the speed or the Voltage as now the cpu is for Rma and i'am waiting one 8600
the degrade from what i found with this chip is getting more and more aggressive if you run at Higher Voltages and only on high Cpu loads
i was running my first E8500 for 3 months @ 4.2 with 1.4V and no degrade...

it's funny that most of those degradations happen in Greece

it's the hardware that came inside Greece not the users
many people Confirms that the hardware is third grade
we had two 8880Gtx one from Greece and on from Usa
gues what the one from Greece when we where benching with dice she needed just one drop of water
and she died and the other from USA was covered with water and she was benching like crazy
the insulation was the same

Whats the word on the 8400 batch q808a? Mine requires alot of core voltage for a stable overclock.

Should I be comfortable with that voltage? I run this 24/7 and its very stable. Should I worry about degredation? The temps never get that high in prime, occt, or orthos. I usually never see any higher than 53c. I lapped my processor and am using a zerotherm nirvana with mx-2.

I get 3.6ghz with 1.2 volts and 3.8ghz with 1.25 volts.
Seems like too high volts/temps to me for stable oc.

Hey guys. I really want to OC my E8400 to around 3.5 or so Ghz, but don't know squat about OCing. Anyone know where I should start?
specs: CORSAIR 620HX, ASUS P5Q-E, XIGMATEK HDT-S1283
btw- I idle around high 20's according to real temp, and orthos usually puts me around 40 degrees.
thanks a ton for any help!

set the lower Voltages on your motherboard and set your fsb @ 400 Mhz
99% you wont need to do anything more and your cpu will work @ 3600Mhz
use prime small fft's for 5-8hours to see if you are stable
PS my rma is done but the game me on Q9450

I see alot of results like that but I think its my batch. Ive seen people that need high voltage for a moderate oc like mine. Ive seen good results with this chip on my board too, although vdroop is huge. Im at 1.32v under load. If I try to get to 4ghz I would need over 1.4v. I have my vterm at 1.31 and cpugtl at 66% of my vterm and my nbgtl is at 67% of my vterm.

set the Vcore @ 1.25
Vtt @ 1.1
DDR Voltage @ your rams default
the others Auto
boot @ 400 Fsb and you are done

The E8600 I just sold off did 4.0 (8x500) with 1.208-1.216. It was a good chip but ran a little warm.

thanks I'll try it out later .
Also, is there any reason why both RealTemp and CPU-Z are telling my my processor is running at 2 ghz? I haven't even messed with the bios yet...lol. CPU-Z is even telling me that my RAM is ddr3 and its frequency is 400? wth?
EDIT: so I know what vcore is, and im guessing DDR voltage=DRAM voltage, but whats VTT? thx!

about the 2Ghz i believe it Eist an C1 in your bios settings for the cpu z i knew about a bug with some P5Q but i cant tell you as long as you know your hardware the don't mind what cpu z reports :p
Vtt or Termination Voltage or Fsb termination is the same thing many boards use different names you will found it
