I just did another cpu change and decided to a little more permanent solution.. I put a penny instead of the cardboard. I still have a little play when I twist it but overall my cpu temps have dropped over 5c with this particular cpu. I honestly think the cardboard was a better solution than the penny cuz I wants able to twist the hs as much before. Either way this is working quite well.

Edit: As you can see the hs is not totally level in this pic but I have fixed that now.

This is getting off topic but you can just use the image resizer that microsoft provides with their power toys. That way u can just right click to change photo sizes.

@xenoasd I'd say a min of 1/8" but since your using cardboard you might want to go a little thicker cuz it'll compress..

I am on Vista so image resizer wont work.

I tried this today with a big fender washer. It's a little over 1/8th inch thick. Worked pretty well, I can barely move the heatsink now. It's only been running about an hour, but temps are the same as before. My temps were good already, so I don't know if I can improve them much. This is with dpad running. Stresses about the same as wcg, not quite as much as orthos.

do i need to re-apply thermal paste after i put a penny under the bracket? I just unscrewed, place, then rescrew. I didn't lift the HSF though.

If you didnt pull the hs off you should be ok..

You've done something similar to what I typed here a few days ago http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...=144423&page=2 glad you got it sorted but TR really need to revise the bracket as a lot of people are reporting problems with the HS not being secure.

Nothing wrong w/ the Tuniq. I only get slightly better temps w/ the TR, but it looks a lot better IMO. I too have a moving mount. Perhaps some of that soft foam used in mobo boxes would be a good alternative here. I picked up something similar from Michael's when I had to replace the Tuniq's back plate mount.

Just replaced my ninja ver B with the ultra 120 extreme today. I'm seeing a 11C difference so far. I think I messed up my ninja really bad though

. About a 4-5C difference from before I messed up my ninja. The ultra 120 extreme I got came without the washer and is pretty loose. I will have to add a washer/penny in later.

I'd say go with the cardboard it gives more friction for less movement. Just make sure you add enough cuz it's going to compress when you screw the bracket down.

Ok, thanks. I'll try that tomorrow. I installed my Ultra-120 Extreme yesterday and right now i'm running stock and hitting 45c on load, which i think is too high. The ihs is lapped and i have really good airflow in the case.
Think I will lap the heatsink too tomorrow while i'm at it...

Seems I've ben lucky, I just installed the 120 extreme today, and its a solid fit.

My temps arent great though, but probably due to it being like a sauna in my room, with rubbish airflow in the case.

I decided to switch out the plastic washer I was using with a dime today.

Set up with plastic washer. Twisted the hsf a bit in the picture.

This is the plastic washer I was using before. I guess since it has the hole to accommodate the screw that is on the x clamp, it really only added 1mm more thickness.

With the newly added dime.

Looks like a huge improvement

When I was running orthos yesterday, I was getting 58-59C at load. Today after I added the dime, it is currently going back and forth at 52-54C after 60 mins of orthos. Temps measured with core temp .94.
