Hi , whats the best bios for overclocking q6600 on p35 Dq6 ?
Having some problems with my board , anything past 1.5ish vcore and it seems to get unstable , perhaps some component on mb getting warm ? Im running 4x1GB pc8500 ballistix around stock speeds atm seems to work fine. increased mch and
vfsb voltages slightly just to take that out of the equation. I can boot 4 ghz at 1.6v bios setting but prime95 crashes instantly but heres the strange part the same thing happens at 3.8Ghz 1.6v but 3.8 1.5v primes for 20 minutes before one of the cores fail. Cpu gets kinda hot at 1.6v quadprime around 70c measured with intel tat , speedfan and everest. Coretemp crashes the rig instantly for some reason.

I actually think your CPU is overheating and thus making Prime shut down.
You said it yourself with the "3.8Ghz 1.6v but 3.8 1.5v primes for 20 minutes before one of the cores fail." -statement.
That is probably the reason for one core shutting down.
I guess you need more cooling!
I see you have 4xBallistix. Which ones do you have? An image or a link perhaps? Are they running fine and how high have you reached with 4 of them ?

Yeah i was thinking its a cpu heat problem but its kinda strange since i see people running 1.5-1.55v on air and im on a decent watercooling setup and cant run 1.55v.
I have the pc8500 non tracers havent tested them much yet but 600Mhz 5 5 5 15 2.20v seems ok 520Mhz is stable around 2.05v havent tested lower voltage yet. Theres a thread about them here http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=143009

The new BIOSes had some errors over 1.5vcore I my memory serves me right. I'm using F7d now, but haven't had time for OC latly, so I don't know if its any better.

F9 bios is working great with P35-DS4 rev 1.0 Actual voltages are now in bios and there is also option for loadline calibration. With it enabled I could clock higher than bios F6. Also noticed that now cpu-z shows 1.520-1.536V load when 1.575V set in bios With bios F6 cpu-z showed 1.504-1.520V when priming.

    Angry Unusual FSB behavior

I am new to overclocking. This is the first time I haver ever bought hardware with overclocking in mind

So this is what I put together

    Gigabyte P35-DS3R Rev 2.1
    Intel E2160
    2 GB OZA PC 6400

Had it all set up on the table open system and was testing different settings. I was able to get the system up to 3.2Ghz stable and cool using 355 FSB vcore at 1.47 and memory multiplier at a 2.4 ratio giving me a small overclock on the memory

Took it all apart & put everything back together this time inside my case. Reinstalled the OS while playing around with Raid options.
About a week latter I noticed that the system felt a bit slow so I ran CPUZ to see if the overclock was still in place. The system was back at 1.8Ghz.

I quickly ran back to the BIOS to reset the overclock but the bios is set correctly. the system is just ignoring the FSB setting. now I cab set the FSB anywhere from 200 -700 with no affect on the CPU clock in post

What have I missed or done wrong?

Could the move to the case have caused this somehow?

Is it possible one of the component of the broad is damaged ?

Should I be considering the RMA approach?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I can not get a reply form the Gigabyte support

    thanks
    Jonx

    you welcome

    yes big difference
in worse cases you gotta leave battery out for a few hours even overnight till all juice drains out of the board

Got a DS4 from NewEgg today and its a rev. 2.1. I noticed when I started it up it had flashing LEDs on the MB. Board come with F8 Bios. I was looking for an updated bios on Gigabytes website but I do not even see a rev. 2.1 on there. Is 2.0 the same bios?

So tested some more, tried really relaxed memtimings and standard mode instead of turbo and some other settings and managed to prime for an hour at 3.9Ghz 1.5v but then i tried playing cod4 and got an instant shutdown , no bluscreen no freeze. Tried 3.8Ghz
3.7Ghz etc and i keep getting these shutdowns not the usual bsod or freeze = ( anything past 3.6Ghz no mather what settings. Really whised there was a 1:1 setting so i could take the memory out of the equation , altho memtest runs fine.

so basicly the loadline doesnt do nothing major, just makes the vcore closer to bios setting and it doesn't eliminate the vdroop.

The best one that I've ran is the F7b beta bios. Station-drivers had it, but they were having some connectivity problems a few days ago, so I put it up on Rapidshare. My post with the link should be a page or so back.

It doesn't eliminate droop totally; it is now 0.016, With F6 bios droop was 0.032. So it is working

You know, the most annoying thing about the P35-DS3R is that it undervolts the CPU even at stock. I see 1.17 v when Primeing. As such, I can't get as much of an overclock with normal votage settings, meaning that I can't get a sweet 3.2 GHz without increasing the volts, which in itself means no nice power-save C1E idle voltage.

I was messing with a G33-DS2R yesterday and found that it has much nicer voltage delivery. Of course, I was just running a E6750 @ 3.2 GHz; no quad core there. Stock volts, 8x400 is a nice, cool, ultra-speedy setup though.

I have tested the F7b on the P35 DQ6 with a QX9650. There is a lot of issues : impossible to clock over 4Ghz in the bios (with setfsb, yes) and there is problems with the vcore : sometimes, I have to change the value of the the vcore (for example, if I have 1.4V, I need to use 1.42V or 1.38V...) because it is impossible to load windows.
In other ways, ocing results are not bad : with water cooling : max fsb with my qx9650~470mhz, 3dmark06@10x465mhz@1.6V, spi1M@4750mhz@1.6V, prim95 10h@4300mhz@1.49V

Gigabyte seems to be not hurry to release a news bios for the P35 DQ6

I have a question for the people who have a p35-ds4:

I have been running memtest86+ on it (usb legacy disabled) with 3 different sets of corsair CM2X1024-6400C4 and then I tried the Crucial Ballistix BL2Kit12864AA804 and they both failed, both with using the pc35-ds4 default configuration, and with the optimized configurations that are recommended by the memory companies website.

However, I never noticed any crashing while playing games, errors when encoding videos or winraring my project files. I looked upon their faq and it seems like it doesn't give out false positives.. should I be concerned?

I was wondering if anyone else was having the same problems, and if memtest86+ ver 1.70 is giving me false positives.

    Thank you in advance!

Interesting...What board revision, and what BIOS?

I have a Rev.2.0 F9b and just tried running memtest86+ v1.7 on some Crucial Ballistix PC2-6400 that previously passed with flying colors...this time they started popping up errors immediatly. I backed off my speeds/timings, but it did not help. They previously passed without error on F7 & F8...

Consequently, I just completed an RMA request last night for a G.SKILL 2x2GB PC2-8000 kit I just got from newegg last week because they were failing memtest the same way (even with relaxed speeds/timings). Now I'm thinking maybe they're OK.

I think I may try flashing back to F8 and see if the problem remains.

I have the rev 2.0, bios ver F9 (2007/11/30), I unfortunately didn't run memtest86+ ver 1.7 while I had the F7 bios so that's why I kept exchanging those memory sticks. I felt bad for doing that and thinking it was the ram.

I'm not too sure how I would be able to downgrade my bios- I wasn't able to update the bios update through the bios but through the gigabyte bios web update program (@bios)... I tried to update it through Q-Flash, but never got it to work...

I hope it's the bios and if it is a fix might be in the works!
